We visted The Black Horse Inn @ Kirkby Fleetham for lunch on a Thursday. The resturant and bar were both busy but not overly so. Staff - who were busy with a fair few customers dining - were friendly and welcoming and made sure that we were settled into a table which allowed our Labrador space to lie down without encroaching upon other tables/diners. Menu and wine list offered all looked (and was) good. Forgoing a starter (which all looked very tempting and appertising), we selected some traditional (pub) mains - a Chicken Parmo for my wife and a Steak & Ale Pie with a side order of Red Cabbage for myself. Both came as generous portions, with no real needs for my side, and both were absolutely delicious Food, when it arrived, was provided for a good generous portion and absolutely delicious. The generous size of our mains meant that we diecuded to forgo a dessert (although we were really tempted). Overall service was decently paced and appropriately attentive - perfect for our desired leisurely lunch. Nice to have no overbearing piped background music. All in all an absolutely delight...

Great mains - fish and chips. A bit disappointed with desert not as expected. However, bar/serving staff were polite, gracious and very obliging. Apologies i don't know your names but the two young men on Wednesday evening 28th Oct. were superb. Thank you. You made our experience even better. Look forward to returning.

Snug room, nicely appointed with old baking fireplace, wooden beams & panelling. Timmy Taylor’s Landlord & Hugo spritz were lush. Menu had some unusual fare, which is great, the ham hock, mixed grill & wild mushroom Bourgogne pie were all exceptional and filling. Desserts were had & all plates were fully emptied 😋. We were served at the table by polite & pleasant staff & food came in a reasonable time for fresh cooked food. Our dog was made welcome too, ta very much 😁

one word outstanding service from the minute we went in and quality of the food for the price was something we don't get in Liverpool and now is a far way but we will be back and even might stay with new accommodation they are building so well done to the two brothers who have set up the herdsman

We went for lunch on Saturday myself & a friend. They had a wedding happening at the same time, so it was quite noisy, but that was fine by us, you would expect that. The young lady who served us was brilliant. She was under a lot of pressure what with wedding guests & diners, but she coped beautifully. A lovely setting, lovely food, and we were well taken care of by our waitress .
