In 1976 local musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt had the idea to bring a slice of America to Norwich after working for and with the American war machine in South East Asia and a later visit to San Francisco to meeting up with former musician buddies.Harvey had the opportunity to purchase an old café caravan situated on Castle Meadow Norwich next to the old cattle market.Zaks opened in May 1976 serving the now famous chargrilled burgers in the “Original Zaks Caravan” wrapped in tin foil and cooked fresh to order in the American tradition.If it is an authentic American dining experience you are looking for then Zaks is your kind of place.     Lovely service, wonderful food. When you type the address in on maps it takes you a very funny route but if you drop a pin next to the pub and get directions to there you’ll be fine! Really worth the drive.

    My favourite pub. The food is always cooked to perfection, the menu has great twists on classics using local ingredients. The wine list is extensive with an array of quality wines and a great beer selection too. Interior is very tasteful and the garden is enclosed. A sun trap with space to relax. The staff are always very friendly, attentive and give great recommendations on the food! My family have been here and experienced the brunch, had a coffee, stopped off for a quick drink along with lunch and dinner. Couldn't recommend it more...you must try!
