Instead, you’ll need to text a special code to a number on the wall and a host will open the door and usher you inside. Exposed brick walls and dark timber are complemented by dim lighting from vintage chandeliers. Holding fewer than 60 guests, it’s this old world ambience that sets Coal & Cedar apart from Newcastle’s bar scene.Ethan and Ryan are the team behind the venture. In 2014, they packed their bags and moved from Sydney to the state’s largest regional city to work on their new dream bar. They found the perfect site on Hunter Street, which was just dingy enough to house a Prohibition-style speakeasy. Transforming the space with taxidermy, eccentric images and many a bottle of booze.

    My kids and I all enjoyed the food we ate, it was all really delicious and worth the money. All the staff who served us were very friendly including the owner. Always love going here for a meal :)

    What an absolutely fantastic experience! My team and I had such a wonderful evening at Poly, and everyone absolutely loved it! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was inviting, and the entire experience was truly memorable. It was the perfect setting for our team to come together, enjoy an incredible meal, and spend quality time with one another. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening. Thank you to the entire Poly team for such a lovely experience. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend it!
