Roberto our server was excellent! Food was great! A little expensive, but very high quality.
Service lacked attention to detail. The kitchen was extremely slow
Overall - great experience. The waitstaff is top notch. The food is great and the ambiance and decor are also fantastic. Highly recommend.
Great experience with the food and service. Our waiter and waitress (yes, we had two❤😊) made my boyfriend feel special for his birthday with a delicious dessert. Thank you!
Table service was fantastic but the kitchen was extremely slow. One meal came out 20 minutes before the guest’s meal did.
Love the water grill. Great energy!
Restaurant did not respect open table reservation. Did not take us in. They Says they were full.
Best octopus ever! Amazing! Good, service and atmosphere were great. Definitely recommend.
Uni is delicious!!
Outstanding decor and overall a terrific seafood spot. Highly recommend. The muscles in particular are amazing and we couldn’t stop raving about them. Service was good.Price is a little excessive but still would come back.
Our server, Dawna, was exceptional in her ability to anticipate our needs. We also noticed a very well dressed person serving, cleaning, and working in the kitchen. We were able to speak to her and learned her name was Taylor who is an executive with the company. What an outstanding person she was!! When they say that things start at the top I can see why most of the people at the Water Grill were smiling, happy, and were customer service oriented. Definitely going back.
Joey is AMAZING! He definitely made our Water Grill experience excellent and enjoyable. We will come back for future celebrations!
We had a great evening and our server Jordon always makes it special.
all food ordered was brought to the table at the same time.Wait staff could not remember to bring the wine list so looked online to order a bottle. The manager did come by and apologized for the problem and credited our bill for the oysters. All of the food was excellent.
Excellent food, but quite pricey. Not sure I'll go back, but good for a one-time visit.
Jennifer Emerzian visited our table and was absolutely amazing! She added such an energy and ambiance to our night! Not sure if our night would of been anything close to what is was without her visit! Thank you Water Grill! That girl needs a raise! Will highly recommended visiting you and Jennifer to anyone we know visiting San Diego!
We have been to Water Grill many times prior to COVID and it was always amazing. This time it was not. Food and service were OK, but not great. We arrived a bit early to a very empty house, yet we were seated at a blah table in the back. Lo and behold, with all the empty tables, they seated another party right beside us and then a large, loud party behind us. Service was slow considering how empty the restaurant was. Seems as though they were staffed up OK.
We had steamed clams for appetizer and pan seared halibut for main course. Bland, but nicely cooked.
Wine list is overpriced ($92 for Rombauer Chard) so bring in your own.
Maybe they are trying to hit their stride again, and we wish them well. Such a great spot for so long. Don’t want to see them go the way of so many other Gas Lamp eateries.
I ordered Seabass and has to use a knife to to cut it. So tough! Usually seabass is flaky and eaten with a fork only. Disappointed
Pretty underwhelming. Nothing really stood out, both fish dishes were under cooked, lacked flavor.
Like most restaurants during covid, we are aware of the lack of staff in most restaurants. Very nice talk with general manager, fish was cooked a little dry but still enjoyable, manager explained white seabass is commonly drier than chilean seabass. Manager offered dessert to make up for it. Very nice customer service. Will come back in better times.
We sat at the window by the street and it was perfect. The combination of the outside and inside air made it the perfect temperature. The drink menu was very creative and the drinks we ordered were delicious. The seafood was all very fresh and tasted amazing. Our waiter was great! He was thorough and explained the menu very well. The food was amazing as well and we would definitely go back next time we are in town.
Was very disappointed in pretty much everything. Waited over 20 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. Restaurant was super noisy, could barely hear conversation. Waited well over an hour for our food. Looked like every other table got bread while waiting, we did not. Two of our entrees were stone cold and dried out, two were hot. Service was terrible. The birthday song was 2 servers, one of which didn’t sing, the whole thing was really awkward. For a bill over $300, I would have expected ALL of these things to be outstanding!! Yet they failed in every regard. Was embarrassed to take my out-of-town guests here. Will Definitely never be returning.
Very bad service, we had to wait a lot between dishes, and also for the desert menu, for the orders and for the check.
The food is correct, but you have to wait a lot for every thing, they are not prepared for that big restaurant.
Lovely to find an "old" SanDiego restaurant with real character but clean and kept in primo condition! The rolls were fresh & free which seems to be plus these days and they were spectacular with crunchy tops, soft inside, sea salted and really soft butter! I want another right now:) The fish & chips was the largest chunk of fried fish I have ever seen but it was cooked to perfection. The Shrimp Louis Salad was large and "deconstructed" as the waiter mentioned. He was so right...each part of the salad had it's own space on the plate which actually meant it was work to get a variety of parts together for that combined taste that makes salad, well...salad. Six big shrimp, both halves of a deviled egg, pickled onions, big butter lettuce leaves etc. were all delicious in their own right but lots of cutting and dipping to get any combo of flavors on a fork. Would not order again because it was too much work trying to make a salad out of all the parts. Loved the place and the overall experience. Will definitely go back to try more dishes and did I mention the rolls:)
Cocktails service was slow, to way to long to get them. 2nd time this has happened.
My Fish was cold when delivered to my table with my daughters steak. Steak was overdone… Server was great. Atmosphere was great. Tasty but not perfect.
Did not have their act together. Took 45 minutes to get an iced tea. Asked for various items multiple times and didn’t get them until begging a bus boy for them. Wife ordered halibut and got
Sea bass. Get it together Water Grill!
yummy food sat out on patio so we enjoyed the scenery too
Our waiter Ivan was amazing! His service and presence was great! The manager Tommy said hello to us and really took care of us. Dinner was great and the wine Luca is amazing!!! We will be coming back.
Good and service was amazing . The atmosphere was fun.
We sat outside and immediately regretted it because there was a very loud LGBTQ event across the street. No big deal just preferred it to be quieter. Food was outstanding, although we ordered Mac and cheese because many reviews recommended it, but we thought it was kinda bland and not impressive. Everything else was absolutely phenomenal. Clams were to die for, black cod dish was to die for, and the swordfish was outstanding. We will absolutely be back!
I ordered the Halibut and half way through eating I notice it wasn’t done. The waitress disappeared thinking I wasn’t going to tip her well because of the mishap. My party was was also with me tuna was blend no flavor and the oysters the waitress recommended were horrible. The only thing that was good was my child’s Salmon. Never will visit again. I love seafood but not from this place ever again
They were all out of sushi by 9:00 pm! Ambience is great.
The place was really great, only downside was that the outside seating lost a lot of the ambience of the inside which was super cool. But the food and drinks were on point and I would definitely go back.
Excellent service and food was delicious. Great ambiance.
Great restaurant and service.
Our food just wasn't that great. We had the sea food tower and oysters tasted off so we didn't eat them and the shrimp were super dry.
