Fantastic food and service!
Even though it’s a seafood restaurant I had a fantastic New York steak with some lobster on the side of course! The Mexican corn is definitely a must!
Incredible food and service 😀
Exceptional service from JP. Great cocktails - the mule and margarita both had a special twist on the routine. Surprising diversity of great clams and also special twists with sauces. I can go on and on, but overall a really wonderful experience that we look forward to repeating soon.
We had an amazing time! I had my mother and boyfriend visiting San Diego and decided to give Water Grill a try for Saturday night dinner. The oysters were amazing; we ordered the 12 oyster sampler, and the variety was spectacular. The king crab was also fantastic! Good wine too. Would definitely come back for a special occasion again. Everything was fresh, beautiful, and delicious!
Excellent service and food in a fun part of San Diego!
Exceptional place to dine at with reasonable prices. Would highly recommend it.
Fantastic fresh seafood and service.
Amazing in all categories but be ready to have a big hole in your wallet after. Will go back but only for special occasions as it is pricey. But soo sooo good. Great waiter!
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday evening, but we had just a short wait. The restaurant is large and beautiful with lots of dark wood. We got a nice booth and started with the Trojan roll. For entrees, we had the halibut on roasted yellow corn with cotija cheese, and the Chilean sea bass on gnocchi with sage brown butter. For dessert, we had the bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream. Everything was cooked perfectly. Their sauces are very well done and not at all heavy. The fish was exceptionally fresh and cooked perfectly. Our waiter, Bob, was great. He made sure everything was to our satisfaction, and he didn't rush us. Bob was that kind of waiter who can really enhance your dining experience.
Wonderful selections. Our dinner was excellent, and the service was superb. We had a stellar waiter, Bob. The only negative was that our chairs were a little low for the height of the table, probably because the seat padding had gotten flattened with use. I had to lift my wine glass from the table and drink it off to the side because I couldn't get my lips to the top of the glass. The seat was that low.
Dinner for 2 took 2 hours! At the 90 min mark they told us they ran out of gnocchi for the Chilean sea bass and asked what we wanted to sub it for. When they finally brought it out the fish was WAYY over done - can’t believe they even put it on the table. I was shocked and super disappointed. It was supposed to be a nice meal for my gf’s birthday (which I told them about). They really could not have done worse.
Clam chowder outstanding! Sushi was fabulous. Fresh clams amazing.
Did I mention the bread? The bartender told us ‘we take our bread seriously’. I thought it a cute comment until the bread arrived. Indeed they do.
Wine list appropriate for the food; both menus offer excellent choices.
This is a very chic restaurant, great food and great service.
The servers were great. The food was OK. My fish was dry and the Brussel Sprouts were tough and not very flavorful, and were luke-warm. But the server was great and did remove the fish from the bill.
Food was delicious! So many choices. We went with the Dover Sole and Seabass and were not disappointed! We will be returning!
This was the first time my wife and I dined at Water Grill and the food and service definitely lived up to the great reviews we read. We chose to eat outside which has been our preference during Covid so the the ambience was much different than the indoor experience. Even though the have less staffing (and are actively recruiting more) we did not notice any significant delays—there was a staff member checking on us very few minutes although Megan, our actual server, was a true delight. Megan had a wonderful personality and provided helpful recommendations. I read some reviews regarding the pricing but the prices seemed right in line with a premium, upscale restaurant that provides delicious meals. We started with the Mussels Garbanzo with a yummy garbanzo and bacon broth easily soaked up by the sourdough bread that complimented the mussels themselves. There were so many mussels that this could easily be a complete, filling meal. However, not wanting to limit our experience, we also each selected an entree. My wife selected the Wild Mexican White Sea Bass which is less moist than the Wild Ross Sea Chilean Sea Bass. However, Megan accurately described the two choices and my my wife was happily enjoyed the Wild Mexican White Sea Bass. I ordered the Wild Alaskan Black Cod (Sablefish) which was prepared Asian-style. While I was unfamiliar with this menu item, I was so pleased that I made this choice which was one of the more delicious seafood items I have tasted!
We chose Water Grill to meet up with friends who we had not seen in a long while. The food was lovely, fresh, and flavorful. The server was excellent, funny, and informative. We had a great time! The maritime mule was fantastic, as was the crab cake. My partner’s steak was cooked a bit too long but he still really enjoyed it!!
Excellent fresh seafood. Lobster roll was amazing. Really cute. Trendy. Upscale eatery . Great drinks as well
Food was excellent!

Food was just ok! Matt our server was excellent
Great service and food! Started with a delicious cocktail, I believe it was a cucumber, Mezcal margarita. Then we ordered oysters Rockefeller, they were delicious!
Finally finished off with the octopus as my entree. It was cooked perfectly!
Loved the service and ambiance! Thank you!
The food was terrible. I ordered the sea bass and it was so overcooked it was like eating rubber.
This is a must-see place for anyone interested in superb seafood in a fun environment. Our meals were excellent, the restaurant is a casual, open air place right in the heart of the Gaslamp near Petco Park. Our server Jordan was a superstar! Very extensive and creative menu. We had the Maryland soft shell crab special and it was unbelievable. Just keep in mind that while the prices were not outrageous for a high end restaurant, this is not bargain place. Only downside is parking is very challenging, especially if there is a baseball game so leave plenty of time.
First time at this fine dining experience next to Petco Park.. and on a night when the Padres beat the Mets! This establishment is mixing a sports bar and high-end dining experience.. novel. Cavernous, two story venue. Staff is still very Covid aware- masks required to enter, even as most walkers pass by the open windows mask less. Great drink and wine list; we started by sharing appetizers of ring calamari and a bowl of delicious clam stew.. and a bottle of Austrian Sauvignon blanc (Gruner). For a main course, my wife chose a half dozen oysters selected from a daily list of cold water west and east coast locations - (all yummy, she said). I chose the scallops, and they were excellently prepared and presented. Ask for a table upstairs if you want a quieter, less hectic experience.
Our waiter was fabulous and took great care of us. The black cod with soba noodles was awesome!
Nisha is the best server I have had at any restaurant- this includes international 5 star eateries- James Beard winners, etc. If you go, I highly recommend requesting to be seated in Nisha’s service area if she is working. Phenomenal service and goes totally out of her way to make your dining experience just what you want it to be.
They oysters were fresh and clean. Loved them.
The cioppino was skimpy. Broth tasted good but skimpy on the seafood. The 8oz filet was seriously overpriced at $52 with no sides. A small cone of fries was $11. Ridiculous prices.
I’ve been to water Grill in L.A. there is no comparison
Great service. The food was good just small portions. I would definitely eat there again.
The atmosphere was awesome and the White Sea bass and scallops were great!!! Would recommend to anyone who loves seas food.
OK only. Not worth the $$$. Overly seasoned. Service was friendly but slow and with a miss of something that was ordered as a side and came out at the end of the meal - it was taken off the bill.
Overall - ok - can't really recommend it.
Kristen our waiter was fabulous. Manager came to check on us and he was great. Rolls even more fabulous!!!
I cannot remember the name of our waiter, but he was fantastic!
Food and atmosphere amazing:
The waiter service and and food were lovely. The host station were unfriendly and offputting
Had a wonderful time at the Water Grill. I wish I had the name of the young man who served us. He was attentive and his recommendations were spot on. We had the grilled whole Fish. It was fantastic. The Ahi poke starter was excellent and the bread pudding with caramel & sea salt was to die for. Thank you for an unforgettable night, even though I have to admit the girl I was with had a lot to do with my great experience.
Water Grill surpassed my expectations for being the first dine-in experience amidst Covid precautions. Greeted promptly by the host/hostesses, our waitress took care of us with the utmost care. Will definitely be back to try other dishes and drinks on the menu.
Dinner was good. They are short of servers so the orders didn’t come right but completed later
I’m general I like this place.
Great spot for dinner with a client!
