The West House
Amazing experience! Sublime food and excellent service. Our 3rd visit to the West House and it certainly won’t be the last. Treat yourself and go there!
Lovely restaurant, currently lots of scaffolding outside.
When we arrived we were show directly to our table and given the menus. Shortly afterwards the amuse Bouche were bought out, a profiterole type pastry with cheese inside and a mountain of shaved cheese on the top. I explained I don't each cheese which the waitress responded with "then the lady can have two" not exactly what I would expect as a response in a Michelin starred restaurant! They usually manage to bring something else. This time the second amuse bouche was left on the table until the mains were cleared.
Starters were nice although my oxtail starter needed a bit more meat. My partner loved hers.
Main was a beautifully cooked duck my partners a lamb dish equally delicious. I must confess I was slightly perplexed by a duck dish with an added "hot dog", which wasn't the most exciting chipolata sausage inside a dense bun.
Dessert was a lovely dish entitled Milk look on the menu for ingredients.
Overall a nice meal with the two oddities if the amuse bouche failure and the weird hot dog.
Toilets clean if somewhat minuscule, that's more about the practicalities of the very old building.
Would I do another 110 mile round trip to return? Sadly not missing that Michelin service spark.
We spent the weekend in Kent and decided to have lunch before heading back to London so booked The West House. Completely exceeded expectations and easily matched some of the best restaurants in London, but at a lower price, so represented great value. Kitchen surprised us with a happy anniversary cake at the end of the meal. Had not considered this our anniversary meal (my profile has the anniversary date) but only added to the overall experience. Hope we can return in the future.
We visited today as the first stop on our overnight trip in Kent and were glad we did. The excellent set lunch menu was a delight. The lamb prosciutto was a first for me and was a very tasty dish with the salsa verde complementing the dish well. The Parmesan croutons added a savoury saltiness to the dish and if I had one criticism I would have preferred these as a thinner cracker than crouton but this is a minor detail. The bream was perfectly pan fried and set atop a great little mussel broth with mussels and spinach added for texture and balance to the dish. I used the lovely bread to mop up the broth. My wife had the mackerel for staters that had a curry flavour to the crusted skin and again was a first in terms of flavour combos. The confit duck leg was well presented and had Asian flavours likening to aromatic duck. The desserts were great too and makes the West House a worthy Michelin started restaurant. We’d definitely attend again.
Have eaten at the West House on a number of occasions and never been disappointed, food is superb. Will be back again soon. The flavours of the food the highlight for me, mouth watering, the sort of food that stays in your memory and you look forward to the next time.
Having been recommended by our son, we were very pleased that it lived up to expectations. The food was excellent and the overall service just right. We have already recommended you to our friends.
Top from the beginning till the end, we hope to come back as soon as possibel
Amazing food. Had the tasting menu and loved every course. Really friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
First visit, fantastic dining experience, would recommend it for a special occasion.
High quality food. Interesting wine list including natural wines from various places.
We have been to this restaurant about 2 or 3 times per year for many years now. It has been in Graham Garrett’s ownership since 2004 I believe and he never fails to impress. Every course was delicious and the service very good too. My only comment is that I don’t like service being added on automatically- I prefer to award extra service myself which made it slightly more expensive than I would like. That said, we will definitely visit again and perhaps not leave it so long next time.
A low key but most enjoyable lunch, with efficient service and interesting dishes- clearly a local favourite and with good reason .
Very average - did the tasting menu - 50% of the dishes were good (not amazing) and other 50% below average.
Service was poor too
One of the best meals we’ve had. Everything was amazing! Delicious food and wine, and really great service. We were the last to leave and never felt hurried. I can’t say enough good things about the experience! Can’t wait for another special occasion so we have an excuse to come back!
The whole experience was relaxed, friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back again and have already recommended it!
Excellent food with exciting new ideas. Nice setting , attentive service. Been there very often
Unlike some Michelin star restaurants this establishment is unpretentious and has a welcoming and relaxed feel. Very pleasing not to have to double the bill to get a decent bottle of wine, with many good ones available by the carafe. The food was very tasty and well presented, but not over fussy. Staff are friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. If we had to pick highlights, for my wife it would be the lemon meringue pie, which I am told was light with a great hit of lemon. I loved the oxtail, which was perfectly cooked and served with a exquisite potato sauce. I can also recommend the cheese board and fantastic malt loaf.
Wonderful food. Quietly efficient unfussy service. Our first visit but we have already booked again.
Excellent menu with a good selection of wine to go with the food. Even had some fantastic Kentish sparkling wine available. Had a very enjoyable evening.
The best Mothering Sunday lunch I have ever had everything was perfect !
A lovely evening, a lovely meal, especially the lamb, accompanied by a well recommended Pinot. The service was warm, friendly & attentive.
Eaten here several times before, but not as often as we would like, bearing in mind that we only live a 10 minute walk way ! I think it represents excellent value for money. Can’t wait for an excuse to go back again.
An enjoyable experience.
For a Michelin starred restaurant it represented reasonable value. Service was good and non invasive. Food quality was excellent. The main course was small but tasty. More vegetables would have been nice. The lemon desert was delicious The chocalate desert was spoilt by being so runny that individual flavours could not be distinguished. The extras like the mini cheese souffles, olives, home made breads, mini doughnuts and chocolates were very welcome and delicious. Three out of our four would definately come back again.
Amazing food, lovely atmosphere and great service! We will definitely be back!
A wonderful interesting lunch, as always.
We have never been disappointed and always look forward to every dish.
Good flavours and interesting presentation. Friendly, relaxed service. Succulent lamb but needed more vegetables. Had to have cheese to fill up after first two courses. Crunchy bread was very tasty. Restaurant has done well to keep going after ferocious fire next door.
We had the lunch menu and it was delicious. The extras were delectable, cheesy choux buns , scrumptious bread and the largest and tastiest olives, tasty raspberry chocolates and lemon madeleines. The waitress was very helpful with wine choices and discrete- not constantly bothering us! I would certainly recommend the restaurant and I have done so.
This was my first experience of West House since it was Italian some 20 years ago. It lived up to its billing in all respects. The food was especially outstanding.
This was a birthday treat for my husband and was a fantastic experience.
Beautiful food with matched wines, perfect evening.
Never disappointed, as ever an excellent meal, introduced two friends to lunch, and they are looking forward to their next visit, remarkable value for money for a Michelin star lunch.
I had a two course dinner for £38. There was an amuse bouche of a cheese gougere covered in Parmesan, which was pleasant.
My first course was Ceviche of scallops with a fairly strong lime dressing, followed by a main of Sika venison, which was more enjoyable.
The wine choice was excellent for such an establishment.
The waiter was very attentive and friendly.
It warranted its Michelin star.
Superb taster menu and good value, would definitely recommend
The food combinations are fantastic.
Not big servings, but perfectly proportioned.
Service and ambience are familiar and welcoming.
For what it offers, not stupidly expensive.
Can’t recommend it highly enough.
High quality food with the mixture of tradition and modern technique. Friendly service and interesting wine list were also memorable.
Excellent meal, with quietly efficient service. We particularly appreciated the length of the list of wines that could be ordered in the 4 glass size carafe - just right!
Overall good, but having been to different Rosette/ Michelon star restaurants before, this one didn’t particularly stand out
Also in terms of service the staff is really nice and friendly, but lacks a bit of attention to detail. For instance, when we arrived we were served bread, butter and olives. We waited to touch it until we would receive the chosen wine, but the waiter took our plates away before we could even try the mini starters. Resulting in crumbles everywhere...
The set menu was good, but nothing that we have already tried with more creativity
We came for my husband’s birthday as a special treat and had a delicious meal. Would highly recommend!
Superb from start to finish.
Exceptional service the moment walked through the door. Food was 👌🏻
Highly recommend to anyone
We were lucky to get a table at short notice. This is definitely one of our favourite restaurants. Wonderful!!
Had a really enjoyable taster menu (meat)
Servicing was good
