The Talpa Restaurant
Thursday - Saturday: 9:00am - 11:00pm
Went there with my son for a quick lunch since he had to get back to work. Very accommodating and got us our food very quickly. The luncheon specials was fantastic and more than we could eat. At only $6.75 a great bargain. Highly recommended and the taquitos were delicious. Also comes with chips and hot sauce., and the hot sauce is just that HOT.
Talpa has been our go-to Mexican restaurant for 40+ years. There's a reason it's survived the LA restaurant "scene". Food is great; fresh, hot (heatwise) - not just warmed up. Best guacamole - just good avocados with no frills. Salsa is roasted and delicious. They've added a full bar so you can have a margarita if you'd like. We thought that after the long- time owners sold it we'd be disappointed, but not so. We are still loyal customers, coming back time after time for the great food and our favorite waitresses, Selina and Paula.
A little hole in the wall that did not look OK for eating Did not try the food.
Discovered because we needed something close by......WOW!!!!!...... The Best Mexican Food...... Salsa is Spicy and fresh.... Chips are crispy and NOT greasy.....Lunch Value menu is a super deal
Very slow service. Guacamole was just mashed avocado. My daughter ordered a veggie tamale and was given pork. She was really not happy.
The Talpa has the best Mexican food in Los Angeles! Great pork in tomatillo salsa (REALLY spicy!), chile verde, steak picado and all the rest. Terrific salsa and chips, too! Been coming here for years; always excellent!
Great, authentic, Mexican food in a cozy, family atmosphere. The waitstaff knows all the regular customers. Friendly people, good food.
We were there several months ago and it was delicious. The food we had last week did not compare. Don't know what happened? It was old style authentic Mexican with refried beans and delicious rice. This time the beans were black and the cheese wasn't even melted on the top. Tacos were not up to par. My tostada was a huge pile of lettuce, enough chicken, with a bit of guacamole, tomato and no cheese at all.
The chicken taquitos were the best of all the food we had. Don't think we will be back. Unfortunately, something has radically changed. So sorry.
Good food but when I saw a health department C rating on the wall when leaving , I was not a happy camper. I would not return until Talpas has an A rating
our go to texmex closed so we r shopping for a replacement. this was pretty good better than the other two we tried but not as good as our old fave. ingredients DO make a BIG difference. we're still shopping our area
One of the best on the Westside for authentic food. Great service and good food! Go early for parking!
This is a fantastic family-owned authentic Mexican restaurant that has been around for about 50 years. The food is AMAZING!
Real Mexican food, delicious and really good margaritas!
Very authentic Mexican food Not a fancy place but clean and comfortable
My husband and I have been going here for almost 4 decades. With so many great Mexican restaurants in LA, we like to experiment and try them all. But we always "come home" to Talpa. It changed ownership a few years ago, as the original owners finally retired, but the new owner has retained the quality of the food, and has added a full bar. If you want real Jalisco style "comfort" Mexican food, and not a new-wave Mexican tapas bar or an oversized burrito, this is your place. Salsa is just delicious roasted chiles, and guacamole is old style (no lobster or uni in this guacamole) It's old school, but as we are one of many customers who have been enjoying their food for a very long time, they will hopefully always be open for us to enjoy.
We've been coming here for years, and the food has been consistently good. The service has changed somewhat with the recent change of ownership, and is much less friendly, but still polite. It's a small, casual place to go and just relax.
UPDATE: April , 2017: it is with a lot of regret that I have to report that the food has really declined since a change in management....and when we stood up last time and noticed it now has a "C" health department rating....well say no more. My friends in the restaurant business say you have to be really bad to get a "C". Really sad to take this one off my list.
The food was really really good! The waitress was efficient and the Margarita was yummy
i've been coming to the Talpa for about 35 years....my husband more like 40. Despite the long-time owners selling a few years back, the new owner has done his best to add a full bar, spruce up the furnishings a bit, and still (and most importantly) keep the food great. If you want terrific home style Mexican food, this is the place to go. There's a lot of great Mexican in LA, but this is our "comfort" stop....and we are not the only ones who have been coming here for decades. There's a reason for that...WAAAY before OpenTable and Yelp came along, we all promoted this little place by word of mouth for a reason.
The go to for Mexican on the West side. Great dishes (shrimp enchiladas)!!!
Great Tequila selection and the service is always great too!
The chile verde is quite good. But the salsa is the real reason we eat here weekly.
The best salsa in LA. Our server was exceptional.
Fabulous Mexican restaurant for many years...reliable food and service
Love this authentic place, my husband and his aunt used to come here in the late 80's an they say the place hasn't changed. The food is delicious but and spicy. Don't be a fool and go to the place next door, come to Talpa where the food is amazing and authentic, not foo foo.
