I asked for a vegetable plate with mushrooms. I received broccolini almost raw and no mushrooms. I would think a restaurant w such a wonderful chef could have done better.

I made dinner reservations for my wife and I to celebrate 15 years of marriage. The Smoking Goat provided a great vibe from the moment we turned direction to enter from the sidewalk. We were noticed and approached by the host with great energy, offered congratulations for our anniversary, and promptly seated. Our server was made aware of our celebration and maintained a super-friendly vibe all night never seeming rushed or distracted despite the many tables he looked to be taking care of. Each appetizer, entree, and dessert item was wonderfully balanced with a great care and developed flavor. Although my wife and I typically lean to what many would consider more “exotic” tastes, we will definitely go back to The Smoking Goat for tried and true classic techniques that produce amazing food. Again, compliments to the staff for maintaining a respectful, professional, friendly, and comfortable vibe without ever seeming stuffy or uptight.

The food was truly delicious but we were seated in the "covered" patio. It was noisy and I was frozen. Wasnt the atmosphere I had hoped for when I told them it was my anniversary. I would go back, request inside seating and I think it would be a much better experience

Great food! Service was confusing. We did not have a dedicated server, dishes didn’t all come out at once, a wine bucket was not provided for a bottle of champagne we purchased ahead of time for a special occasion. They finally offered a celebratory glass of champagne after we paid and were about to leave...

It’s a great option for French fare. I ordered a glass of the Bordeaux Blanc, octopus to start, Scottish salmon for my main, and crème brûlée for dessert. Personally, I prefer to receive a few thinner pieces of octopus vs the one large piece that comes with the dish as it is very chewy once you get to the thick center. Also, the flavor fell a touch flat for me. A little salt goes a long way. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Loved the parsnip purée and the blistered tomatoes were a nice touch. Crème brûlée had great flavor, but wasn’t as smooth as I had hoped it would be. It was a touch gelatinous. Closer to a Panna cotta rather than yogurt texture. Overall, a great experience! Will definitely be back.

We’d never been. Server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. He did take some time getting our order and bringing it back BUT it wasn’t bad. Management even came by and apologized for any delay. It really wasn’t an issue. Food was DELICIOUS. Had the escargot app, it was hot hot hot and so good. Just wish they gave us more bread to dunk into the buttery goodness leftover. I had the steak and frittes. It was juicy, easy to cut into, and just so good. Hubby ordered the biggest pork chop I’ve ever seen. Immediately regretted my delicious decision when I tasted his pork chop! The mashed potatoes were creamy and garlicky and the broccoli was crisp. We will lost definitely be back

My husband and I decided to treat yoself on a Friday night after a couple of super stressful weeks at work. The first time we happened into The Smoking Goat Restaurant was after I had gotten my hair did at my friend’s salon next door (The Keratin Shop). We LOVED it then. My husband particularly loved the duck fat truffle fries that came along with his 12 oz steak. I had the half chicken with potatoes and veggies which I loved. This time around we both got the steak and fries. The steak was cooked as requested (well done) but could have been seasoned more. It was a little bland and dry. But we still ate it and took some steak home for bfast the next day. We also had the Baked Brie which has pistachios, cranberries and honey and comes with baguette slices - this was YUM! Even my husband ate some. I got the creme brûlée again this time which did NOT disappoint! Top was crispy perfect and the vanilla bean custard - magnifique! I had the French 75 to drink (soju (Korean vodka), brut, lemon) and husband had a cpl Pilsners. Overall, a delightful way to spend a Friday! We will be back! Because of the limited menu this is not necessarily a place to go every week unless you like eating the same, rich foods once a week.

Noise level too high for normal conversation. Good service. Very good food, ample portions, expensive, limited entrees selection. Good wine by glass selection. Parking is a problem.

Quite disappointing. My wife and I wanted to try this place for the last 4 years and felt totally let down. My steak was tough with a bland sauce the desperately needed salt. The waiter was great and attentive, but l took an hour for our main meals to arrive. The strawberry shortcake dessert was good. Later we both had stomach aches, possibly from the Brie we had as an appetizer.

The prefixed menu was good and the service was really fast and nice, it a little disappointing that they had soju as part of their cocktail offers and it was not that good.

I really want to give this place a better rating, but I was disappointed. The food just didn’t have the flavor I was hoping for. It was very bland and something you don’t expect from a French restaurant.

We went on a very busy 'Restaurant Week' Sat night. They were super busy. It took a hit on the food quality as far as I could tell. I have been there before and some of my favorites were still slightly off.

Again not a big deal. When you are that busy something gotta give, I get it. I will probably avoid that situation in the future.

We went for restaurant week, and unfortunately they hadn't accounted for the surge. The impact was that the food felt like the kind that one would get at a nice restaurant at a theme park. Tasty enough, but superficial and uninspired. I expect that the staff and chef mean well, and no doubt once things settle quality etc. will improve. But the experience we had was underwhelming.

We dined during San Diego Restaurant Week, so the menu was limited. I ordered the steak; it was prepared well and cooked to my request, but the cut itself was poor quality and certainly below my expectations. When I mentioned it to the host, he was apologetic and said that he had heard other reports of the same problem this evening. That was forgivable; things happen.

The more concerning issue was that this was supposed to be single-charge dinner (with an upcharge for the steak, which I understood and gladly paid. However, we were charged for the French onion soup appetizer, which should have been included. The server agreed and made the change, but brought back a check with the same appetizer charge. The host eventually came back with the proper check, again apologizing for the error.

In general, we were not satisfied with the meal (though the duck-fat fried french fries were amazing!). The wait was long to be seated, to be approached by our server the first time for our order, for the ordered drinks to arrive, and for the check. The food arrived pretty quickly after the drinks. The staff was helpful and friendly, but they were either understaffed or long waits are expected (I've been to France...). We will probably not return.

Quite a lovely restaurant! Had the steak Frites and the duck pate which were both amazing… But I really want to try that onion soup. Strawberry shortcake during restaurant week was so so I recognized all the product in it but it was still okay.
I’ll be back!

We enjoyed a delightful Restaurant Week dinner at the Smoking Goat. The duck pate was excellent especially with the accompaniments--fig preserves, Point Reyes blue cheese, and poached pears. My Duroc pork chop was perfectly cooked! The strawberry shortcake missed the mark, the shortcake was dry. I appreciated the opportunity to have a selection of wine pours -- 6 ounces and 9 ounces. The house red (Carmel Road Point Noir) was very good and nicely priced. I experimented with the French 75 which was made with "Soju," I'll stick with gin but understand that the Smoking Goat does not have a "hard" liquor license. We also appreciated the "team" approach to service. If our server was busy other servers responded to our requests.

My boyfriend and I went for restaurant week. He got the French onion soup and I got the baked Brie. Both were pretty good. We ordered steaks which we are pretty particular about. The steaks could’ve been more flavorful. The dessert was phenomenal - strawberry shortcake. Overall it was quiet and the staff were friendly. A bit overpriced considering portions

We were out near the street - so it is understandable the noise we encountered. But we were seated all the way at the end of the section and it seemed a little less cozy and less a part of the restaurant atmosphere back there. Maybe some sort of way to make the space more a part of the restaurant and more visually enjoyable would have helped.
Our service was better than expected for “pandemic era food service.” The food was overall really tasty. Eating out is a community thing - even in our personal space we want to feel connected to the experience you’re providing everyone else in and out of the restaurant.
