The Smith - Midtown
A friend recommended The Smith to me, when I was in NYC for a weekend with my adult sons and was looking for a place to take them for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were able to make a reservation online, which was nice because The Smith is very popular, especially on the weekends. We had to wait for about 10 minutes to get our table, no problem. The reservation was for 11:15. We wanted breakfast but were told only brunch was being served by then, so we chose from the brunch menu. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The timing of food and drinks coming out was good. The only issue I had is that the food is all very heavy. I got the Italian eggs, my sons got the eggs benedict and the short rib hash. Everyone liked their food but I felt like each dish was too heavy and left the restaurant feeling less than well. (I didn't even finish my food). It was $94+tip for brunch without drinks. I thought it was expensive. Next time we'll go to a NYC diner. I understand The Smith is more upscale, interesting food - I just wish there had been lighter options on the menu.
The staff was super accommodating with my allergies and extremely friendly.
Great. Food and service were excellent.
Good place, food and customer service
Thank you so much
Noisy restaurant but that’s NYC for you. The food was delicious -
Real comfort food. Our waiter asked us all individually for our ID’s even though we sat down with drinks already in our hands...was kind of annoying. Good food and still a go to spot if the occasion is right
Fabulous food and service. Very well-run place. The only drawback is noise. If you want to have an intimate conversation, this is NOT the place. If you want a great choice of interesting and well-prepared food, it is very very good.
Good food with attentive service! Recommended!
Great food but the tables are really close together And it’s loud during peak times so it’s hard to have a conversation.
Do NOT recommend for family with young children.
Completely unaccommodating with kids food.
Would not even serve half order of pasta.
Enjoy the atmosphere and the food is perfect for business lunches or dinners
Too noisy for my group but I love the Smith and I'll go there again with different people and maybe avoid this location in favor of Lincoln Center, Flatiron, or East Village.
Great omelette, good service and amazing French fries. It can get too noisy on peak times.
Great night out with friends - good food and good service
My corn beef hash was dry, rubbery and very salty! Everything else was good.
The food and service were great during brunch! Will be coming back!
Despite the crazy crowds, they were very attentive and timely. The food came out fast and delicious.
You need a reservation for this wonderful restaurant. Absolutely love all the brunch items on the menu. Plenty of choices for everyone!
Solid Midtown East brunch option. Good energy and light on tourists. Accommodated our table request. Service efficient. Food decent, though unremarkable.
One of the best brunch spots I’ve been to. Unique and delicious twist in some brunch classics.
It’s a cool place, nothing really special about it. Service is always great, food can be a bit better but the ambiance of the place is what I like about it.
The ReStaurant is boring to look at needs some decorations. Food and service good
Mac and Cheese and s’mores in a jar were amazing
I shared both with a friend it was MORE than enough HIGHLY RECOMMEND (and split dishes for best value)
Dinner: Food was below average. The chicken was burned and the buratta appetizer totally kissed the mark. Our plates were also dirty with old food crusted onto them. The waiter was inattentive and it was so loud I could barely hear my spouse talking to me. I don’t know why this place is otherwise rated so highly. I would never return.
This was one of our favorite meals of the week. We had a comfortable seat. It paid off to reserve through open table. The service was top-notch without being constantly in your face and the food was fresh flavorful and generous. Hope to return sometime soon!!
Great place to eat wonderful food with friends and family. Though you wait a bit to be seated it is worth it.
Nice restaurant that a friend recommended. It was good but not off the charts. I would go back if visiting NYC again.
Have been to the Smith for dinner / drinks. Never for lunch before. Was, yet again, a truly outstanding experience. Great food, attentive server, tremendous ambiance. Just a nice vibe for lunch. This place consistently exceeds my expectations.
I scheduled a reservation at the smith for a corporate luncheon yesterday and the food and atmosphere were wonderful.
Great place love the egg white omelette salad absolutely amazing
Buzzing place. Very popular. Food is good, menu somewhat traditional.
Good food and good service
I have been returning to The Smith for nearly a decade to eat the ricotta gnocchi. I literally have never ordered anything different. It's a gnocchi in a league of it's own and well worth the trip from Colorado. Thank you, The Smith, for consistently delivering one of my favorite dishes.
We found the brunch to be way too noisey and we almost froze to death. They could have cut the number of tables by 50% and still made a big profit. We will not be back.
Food was pretty good, but overpriced, 18 bucks for a chicken sandwich...
Great service and short rib hash
I had the Benedict Johnny and a side of the Candied Bacon. Wow, everything was great! The Cheddar Cornbread really made that dish. Everything was cooked perfectly. I also had the Barnstormer cocktail. The drink tasted great. My Wife had the Sicilian Baked Eggs. She enjoyed everything. I would eat here again in a heartbeat.
Love the real tomato organic ketchup
Great trendy place. Surprisingly fast for the number of people it can accomodate. Recommend you reserve in advance as it can be quite busy with line-ups.
Booked this on the off-chance. Really lively, buzzing place. Service was excellent. Food very good but large portions (fairly typical for the US).
