The Mariner Restaurant
Afternoon tea with friends, great value & great for coeliacs as gluten free options were delicious!
Lovely environment great staff very helpful. Food was excellent.
As a non meat eater the buffet is poor apart from the salad. I do eat fish and it was awful- dry and tasteless. Could this be cooked at the time at the buffet to keep it fresh?
Food was ok, service was ok, I would use it again but mainly due to convenience.
We have come to dine here a handful of times and always found the food, price and general feel of the place to be very good. Even though you now have to pay £5.00 for 5 hours instead of free parking when you dine, it is still good value when dining before popping over to the Hydro for a concert... will continue to dine here when an event arises.
The food was at best average and not hot. The restaurant was drafty and uncomfortable. The staff were however friendly.
Presented with an a la carte menu or hot buffet options but when we ordered from the menu we were told we would need to wait for up to an hour for any main course even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Other diners got the same message. We could have accepted this if the chef had been sick/injured/drunk but the reason we got was that they were just about to get busy. The only way to eat within a reasonable timescale was the 1970’s style buffet. You could take as much as you liked but the quality and variety were poor. With the bill coming to £58 for two we expected better. We won’t be going back.
Excellent pre-theatre menu at £20 per head with a starter and an extensive buffet main. Choices from the (multi visit if hungry enough!) buffet were extensive and delicious and we couldn’t fault the food. Staff were also great and very attentive without being overbearing. All-in-all a great meal and highly recommended.
Had Dinner sat 26/1/19 before going to Boyzone Concert Mariner as very busy and noisy 40 mins wait for food but were informed of this on arrival food was very good and the staff done exceptionaly well with the amount of diners on that night would definately go again Cocktails were very good also
Nice food, we opted for the dinner for 2 from the buffet. Sadly, the restaurant is in essence the hotel lobby, and the Intercontinental Group are obviously trying to save electricity and avoid heating. Ruined a perfectly nice meal. I feel sorry for the staff who were working in that environment.
Woman scottish served us very aburt not helpful another male member of staff lively to us he picked up on the bad feelin ahe put on our group.too confusion with start off this go upoo get ur main desert 3 pound supp or pickboff other menu... 2 cakes that was desert. It was a wedding gift we were given the vocher for 2 nite stay meal sat nite .
The service in the restaurant was very poor. I could write lots of comments. However, from start to finish it was a disaster, the food was actually fine, just took an age to come. There doesn’t appear to be any leadership in the restaurant, staff avoid eye contact, so ordering and paying for food / drinks was difficult. Worst I’ve ever experienced.
Once again there was no record of my request for wheelchair access despite my request at the time of booking. Service was very slow and the pork on the buffet was inedible because it was so over cooked. Other items were ok though. The parking charge is disappointing too.
It was nice as usual but strange to get an email to say we hadn’t turned up! Booking procedures need tightened up.
Staff were good, food was ok.
Fish and chips were greasy, but lamb was tasty but portion was small
Service was good . We had the buffet menu and the choice was good with a number of different meat and vegetable dishes available.
Hardest Place to Find in Glasgow until you phone only to find out its the Crown Plaza!!! Why is there no Sign for the restaurant and why did Open Table not tell us that it was the Crown Plaza VVV Annoying walking around for 20 mins looking for the Mariners Restaurant... Sort it out guys... Food was good quality but V Small portions!
We’ve been to the restaurant before and hoped the standard was still good and it was. Staff are an asset the food is lovely great choice for main course at the self service and starters were excellent. And a mug of coffee as opposed to a wee cup greatly appreciated. Red house wine was very good too.
Superb value for money and a great pre show venue.
Buffet a bit odd....strange mixture / combinations. What we had was nice but nothing better than you could make yourself
Service slow - didn’t have time for dessert - but dinner delicious
Have dined here before fantastic good food nice view will definitely return
Had a pre theatre buffet style meal here before Shania Twain concert, lovely choice and all that you could eat, so handy for Hydro.
Friendly service, quality food, the cook definitly knows how to put ingredients together into a lovely meal.
I took the a la carte option but buffet is also possible .
As we were staying in the hotel we decided to eat in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, we opted for the eving buffet there were plenty of choice
And the food tasted great only small complaint was that the food good have been warmer, but this would not put off from eating here again
Hotel restaurant. Uncomfortable chairs, a too loud budget wedding reception sound track and some badly behaved children. Oh god, is it actually a karaoke?!
The room is half-filled on a Friday night with dissatisfied couples and solo travellers with their phones. No one here is having sex tonight.
The advertised “hot table” is the saddest thing with desiccated prepped food dying under hot lamps. Except for the plastic foliage.
Squid is acceptable as is the sauv blanc that is free thanks to a hotel apology. One waiter desperately tries to sell bread and butter with every course.
I choke on the paprika in the mystery sauce. Chips, inevitably, are served in a mini fryer basket. The burger with sloppy bottomings is thankfully served on bread, not brioche. The waiter, perhaps sensing my despair, asks whether I want my second glass of wine to be large, but takes an age to deliver.
Roasted pineapple is not. It’s taken back to the kitchen for ten minutes, for the chef to spit on or worse I imagine, and comes back still hard and cold.
Acceptable in a cinch, but hardly a destination restaurant worthy of a four star hotel. Neither the food nor wine are as good as you would have at home.
Meal was good. Service efficient.
We were going to the Hydro, service was quick & the help yourself buffet was perfect. Great choice of food & at £40 for 2 courses & a glass of wine each, great value. Staff were very friendly too.
The service was very slow since the beginning. Waited a little time to be settled because she was too busy talking at one table.
Basically we had to waith for everything.
The food was excellent
Excellent meal with first class service from vey friendly and attentive staff.
Excellent opportunity to eat before visit to the adjoining SSE Hydro for a show. The buffet menu is good value for money and being self service allows you to eat early and quickly before heading off to the Hydro. Waiting staff were attentive which again assisted in getting fed fairly quickly.
Dined here a few times. Can't fault the quality of food but on this occasion the hot table was disappointing
Excellent buffet which we always enjoy. So much to choose from and good value,
Had 3 options for Dinner Menu. A la carte, Fixed Price or Buffet. Chose the buffet, which was excellent. Starter was served to the table. Chicken Liver Pate was very tasty. Good choice of main at the buffet. Dessert choice was more limited but still good value. Service was friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommend.
Enjoyed the meal but a little disappointed in the desserts not very inventive , pretty boring
We were heading to the SSE Hydro so needed a quick meal before getting over there.
The carvery menu option was good value for money and allowed us ample time to eat before going to the concert.
We have dined here several times before going to a concert at the Hydro and have always really enjoyed the experience, however, this time... was a bit of a disappointment. Firstly, the service was poor... we had to ask to be served and then had to wait 20 minutes for our starter (a long time when you're going to a Concert). Secondly, there was no little desserts with the "hot buffet table menu"... we were told that they didn't do them on "Concert nights"... we have only ever dined there on "Concert nights" and they have always been there before (they were one of the best bits and we were so looking forward to it). This night won't stop us coming back before a concert, but has taken the shine off for us.
Menu was great value for money, service was brilliant our server had a smile on his face everytime he spoke to us, nothing was too much.
This is a spacious venue with offering great views over the Clyde, day and night. The food is good with plenty of choice and the atmosphere is friendly and convivial even at busy times.
Our second time eating here pre-show, and once again thoroughly enjoyed it. We both like the open plan layout of the dining area, which somehow manages to allow privacy to talk quietly at the same time.
The service is good, if a little slow staring (maybe that's more of our problem though, "worrying" about being late to the show!
The food itself was very tasty and enjoyable, though my partner noted that the choices on the salad bar were much fewer than on our fist experience here. All in all though, a most enjoyable night and we will be back.
Good value and carvery was great because we were going to show at the Hydro and time was limited. (Could have had more meat selection would be only small negative. )
