The Riviera is the Restaurant within the Hillpark Hotel. This hotel is a beautiful 1850s house set in the most spectacular gardens and parkland. The menu was a nice balance of British and European. We started with a small pasta and my Partner having warm prawns. Our main course was a sharing course of sea bream. We hadn’t experienced this concept of sharing a main course before. This meant that the cost overall was very reasonable. There was a good sweet menu. Also a very wide ranging wine selection. We were able to congratulate the Chef afterwards. He had taken over just a week before. His expertise and enthusiasm was so evident. The service was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely go back to sample his ideas for future menus. It was altogether a lovely experience.
I think our short notice booking through OpenTable threw them by surprise so it took a while to get us seated, also didn't help that we changed our mind about whether to dine outside. Having said that the amount of time we spent waiting, to be seated and to get our food was really long, thankfully the restaurant is in a beautiful building but I imagine less patient customers would kick off. Staff were nice though. And the venison carpaccio small plate was great.
Food was excellent, as was the service & value, but it took 1 hour and 20 mins since arriving to be served our food. This was too long, since we had a (fortunately) very well-behaved 1 year old with us.
Aesthetic venue however let down by the appalling service. The table next to us left due to the poor service
We got married at Hillbark 11 years ago and had heard about Riviera so wanted to give it a try.. I'm not one for being negative but i felt the Food didn't live up to the setting / HIllbark brand at all. The cellar was a fantastic space, however, the Food disappointed us on so many levels - just didn't have that special factor - very mediocre for the venue / price.. We went for the Chefs choice tapas and felt it was very piecemeal in it's serving and content. No vegetables, duck was very salty, they gave us a double beef portion even though one of our guests had said they don't eat beef and the presentation was literally just beef or fish on a plate with a small token of chips... I'd love to go to Hallbark again as the building is beautiful, but with food like that i'm afraid we wont be going back.
The Riviera is an outstanding restaurant. We booked for our us and 4 friends for a very special occasion. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and taken to the outside area to await our guests. The grounds are beautiful, the staff very attentive and the food superb. The atmosphere was perfect with a wonderful pianist playing a mini grand in the entrance. We were treated to lots of extras free of charge and overall the cost was more than good value. We and are guests will treasure our memories of that evening. A big thank you to all the staff.
A hidden gem set in beautiful gardens with very friendly staff.
If I could award 0 stars I would. After significant careful thought, I booked the restaurant for my 5 year anniversary with my girlfriend. They accepted the booking and I was even sent a reminder email. Then with 1 day left they called me to tell me they could not fulfil the booking due to private hire (extremely late notice). I assume they received an offer to clear out the restaurant. This was terrible customer service. I wrote an email to express my disappointment, to which they could not even be bothered to reply. I am extremely disappointed with their behaviour.
We instead went to the Chester Grosvenor which was excellent!
beautiful food, amazing service, even Stewart Warner came out to talk to us, the best meal I can remember, a very very special night
fabulous, back soon.
Faversham: Arranged booking at 4pm for 5pm arrival. Booked within 15 minutes. No probs on arrival.
My partner asked for advice with wine for his taste and waiter was spot on!
Starter (mozzarella garlic bread) arrived quickly and was a nice pizza bread that we shared between 2.
My partner had the King prawn linguini which he said was 'fresh and tasty'.
I hade the meatballs with spaghetti. U get 3 LARGE meatballs which were very soft and tender and melted when eaten. Plus lots and lots of spaghetti. Too much for me to eat. This was my only small gripe as there was no room for dessert!!! My partner finished with an espresso which he said was gorgeous. So for a starter shared, 1 wine, 1 soft drink, 2mains and a coffee we paid £35. Fairly Average price I would say.
Very good service and the meat dishes were great. Those of us that had the seafood weren't as happy, although it was ok, but not especially good value for money.ff
On a cold wet afternoon Posillipo could not have been more welcoming. Just excellent in all respects
Had a great night. Lovely food and atmosphere.
Ate at Posillipo in Faversham on Sunday afternoon to celebrate daughters birthday. We had a lovely meal, the food was excellent and service was v good. This was the second time we have eaten at this restaurant in the last two weeks and I cannot fault it
Posillipo Faversham Kent. Twelve of us went to Posillipo for birthday celebrations. The restaurant was extrmeley busy with a great atmosphere. The staff were excellent and nothing too much trouble for them. I had taken balloons and cakes down during the day, the balloons were on the table when we arrvied and they brought the cakes out later. The food was delicious aall brought out at the same time, all fresh and hot and good value for money.
Will definately recommend to friends.
Quality of the food was really excellent but restuarant was a bit quiet as we were the only diners on this particular night. However this did not bother us and the excellent service and complimentary champagne helped make it an enjoable evening. Canapes were really good.Have already booked to go back.
6 of us had lunch at Posillipo Faversham yesterday. It was quiet so we had excellent service. Their house wine is very reasonably priced and comes in litre jugs. We had the white and it was lovely and light. We had a selection of starters which they made into mains. I had the mussels which are very good. My husband had a pizza which he liked but didn't think it was the best. The others had lovely looking salads. This is a beautiful place for lunch and very friendly and efficient service
6 of us ate at Posillipo, Faversham last Saturday. lovely meal as usual. I had not tried their mussels before. They were excellent. The sea bass with king prawns was lovely and a good portion of fish. The bill was £20 over- fortunately I noticed!
We visited Posillipo in Faversham last night. It was a warm evening and the doors were open and some diners were outside We were greeted very warmly. It was a lovely setting for dinner. We started with their very generous calamari and followed that with seafood rissotto which was delicious and might overtake linguine Posillipo as my favourite main course! We shared a chocolate profiterole pudding. Another lovely meal!
The fine dining restaurant at Hillbark is set in a wonderful location with views across the woods. this was matched by the quality of food and really excellent service from James. Although very quiet on the night James brightened the evening up with some nice touches and knowledgeable suggestions on the menu & wine list. Only downside was the adjacent wedding party which blocked doorways and hallways but I undertsnad this is being addressed.
5 of us went to Posillipo faversham for Sunday lunch. We are frequent visiters and always enjoy our meal. We had a range of different meals- I had their lovely calamari followed by Linguine Posillipo which was delicious.I have mentioned before in a review that their puddings are a bit limited and do not vary. However , it was very nice to be given limoncello on the house. Why don't other restaurants do this? It doesn't cost them much but creates a very positive response.
Although we are great fans of Posillipo, Faversham, we found that this time there was little choice on the specials. Also,I think that the dessert menu is limited and never seems to change. Still enjoyed it though!
We went to the Faversham Posillipo on Sat 2nd April. The restaurant was very busy with lots of children so we asked to move to the conservatory - no problem! It was great in there. We all had a lovely meal. The duck which 3 of us chose was top rate. My husband loved his steak on rocket with parmesan. This restaurant never fails to please.
Posillipo in Faversham is a great place to take friends and it has an extensive food and wine menu. Highly recommended!
Really enjoyed the food, if we were to be picky then we would criticise the saute potatoes, tiny new potatoes cut up and fried we wouldnt class as saute. But we have already rebooked to take the family.
Booked Stewart Warner at the Hillbark for Valentines Day. Its a little difficult to find especially it is not very well sign posted.
I received a long stem red rose which was a nice touch. Extensive wine list yet again no non alcoholic wine choice. It was set taster menu, I am vegetarian same dish just without the meat felt a little short changed no effort to do anything different. They had the same menu for a busy 3 day period, the staff seemed a little fed up describing the food yet again
We went to the Hillbark today for a Valentines lunch, the set menu was fantastic and i think great value for money. The red rose they presented to my wife was a great touch and very much appreciated. We will be visting again to yry the full menu.
My husband and I visited Posillipo in Faversham last night. This is one of our favourite restaurants. As frequent visitors to Italy we feel that in Posillipo you get real Ilalian cuisine unlike a lot of so called Italian restaurants. They also have excellent service- lots of very pleasant waitors and all overseen by the manager Nora. I usually go for the seafood which is excellent. If you haven't been there, do try their linguine Posillipo which is gorgeous. Highly recommended!
Excellent food. Good menu. Good service. Superb experience highly recommended.
We are great fans of Posillipo in Faversham and have eaten there many times and have always been very pleased with the authentic Italian food. We visited it for my birthday treat last Saturday with my sons and again enjoyed their lovely food. 3 of us started with scallops wrapped with Parma ham which was on their specials. This was really lovely. 3 of us followed with linguine Posillipo which we have had before and love. This place never disappoints!
Dined last night at the Hillbark for my birthday and the service and food were impeccable. It certainly does deserve to be awarded a Michelin star, such was the quality of the dishes served up in the tasting menu we tried. We will be back again. It's a real hidden gem in Wirral and definitely comparable to some of the fine dining establishments we regularly sample down south.
Our first visit to Aiden Byrne at Hillbark
Beautiful 'signature menu', a gastronomic delight, complimented by the sommelier's wine selection.
Service excellent, elegant surroundings.
Excellent meal and service at Aiden Byrne at Hillbark tonight. Highly recommended.
