The Chippy Doon The Lane
Brilliant fish tea well worth a visit good service
My partner and I dined at Chippy Doon a couple of years ago and enjoyed it a lot! We thought the fish and chips were wonderful. We returned to Glasgow recently and made a point of dining at Chippy Doon again. Unfortunately, this time around the fish and chips were very disappointing: Meager portion, soggy (though fresh) cod, and “wet” chips. Service was slow during both visits, but at least the food made it bearable. Not this time! I doubt we’ll return a third time.
Lovely lunch, as usual. Nice quiet atmosphere for a chat and fantastic chips!
All the food was freshly cooked. One person had the steak pie which was delicious.
The Fish is very good, if not sold out ...
The service is slow, it took 5 min for the service to come, and another to just deliver the drinks ...
Another fantastic fish lunch. Thank You 😀 I had the cod supper, all cooked to order.
We had a table for 5 the meal was very good slightly disappointed that the pensioner deals were off at the weekend but it was still very good value
I had tried to book for 4 oclock but didnt have the option so went for 3.45pm instead but there was plenty of empty tables so not sure why could get 4 oclock slot.
The waiter came for our order then said I need to ask chef if he is ready to serve food as there is a table of 20 in..eh really so what were we to do wait until they had all been fed!!!
Turns out we got our food okay so why even say that.
Plus you could hear the chefs from the hatch and their language was a bit inappropriate shall we say
Great fish and chips. Restaurant is pleasant and staff are friendly. There is a lift for disabled users, go into Bread And Butter and ask to access it. Only issue us entrance area, bin storage are needs tidied up and closed in, not pleasant on arrival!
Hi, we had booked table on sat I had two elderly family member, no tables and put out on the overspill in conservatory?.. it was awful..freezing cold, heater had run out of fuel, it looked dirty, no ambiance.. chairs ripped, dirty looking not even a plant or anything welcoming just very very poor!!!! Poor poor.. staff were nice and young girl.serving us was fantastic.. she got us moved into the private dining area, although better than out at the overspill area. It was also freezing , doors banging people passing back and forth , although the girl.brough two small.heaterS to heat us up.. was still cold. Food was great.. but not nice area for eating apart from the main small restaurant.. when you to.out for a meal, you expect at least to be sitting in a presentable environment as that is meant to be part of the dining out experience. Buy that overspill area should be closed and refurbished,, disgusting.
Wonderful food as always
Best fish and chips! We come here every time we are in Glasgow - wouldn’t miss it! Great onion rings too!!!
Lovely food, great service, lovely atmosphere, as always.
Food was not too good. My cod was greasy, although my wife’s Lemon Sole was really good, but a big let down with the chips, as they were just frozen things, not real chippy chips. Service was friendly, but slow. Overall we would not be back.
Fish was good. Chips not great. Service awful, waited 20 minutes for our 'plates' to be cleared. Wasn't overly busy. Didn't bother waiting for dessert
I love this restaurant. I eat here all the time. This occasion was a first date and I was offered the celebration meal for two which I previously didn’t know about. Even when it’s busy the restaurant never feels overcrowded or too loud unlike some places tend to get like. I will always give this place 10/10
It was a good lunch experience. We had good service, the food was excellent and the price was very fair. We would certainly go back and would recommend it to our friends.
Very small portion of haddock looked like the fish had been halved to give 2 portions out of 1 fillet. The gentlemen at the next table actually questioned the portion sixe and was told they were all the same size. Ive been to Chippy Doon the Lane a few times and can honestly say i was very disappointed on this occassion.
Redeeming a voucher I got for my Aunt for her Christmas
Fish was delicious, chips average. Disappointed to be served meal in a carboard box which resulted in meal becoming tepid after a short while. Tea tasted of water from an urn that needs descaling. Bread and butter good. Service was pleasant. All in all, a very expensive experience which we will not indulge in again nor recommend.
One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had!
Batter was fluffy and light and the fish was moist and tender. Chips were cooked to perfection.
Would definitely recommend to try it!
super fish suppers as always, love it! will go back without a doubt, been any times before never disappointed.
The best chippy i have ever eaten. You should try the sause, omg! And lemon sole was delicious. This place is on the top of my favourites!
Good as always. Best fish and chips in town. Will be back for sure
If want a chippy for lunch or dinner this is the place to go. Good choice of fish and other popular chippy favorites. Batter on the fish and fritters nice and crispy, and not over oily. The chips even had a crunch.
Well-prepared food in generous portions for a reasonable price served efficiently. The only drawback is the dismal, littered, walk to the lower entry and the steep stairs to the inner door.
The food here is always good and the portion size is generous . Classic fish tea with bread & butter and a cuppa is consistantly good .
Only criticism is that on my last visit the waitresses tended to "hover" to such an extent, it became slightly annoying then just plain wierd . I mean how many times can you assure someone that your fish and chips are great . I'll put this down to to the fact that it was quite quiet at the time so maybe they were bored . All round though it's pretty great .
Very accommodating, quick and friendly service and most importantly, delicious food served piping hot. Many other choices apart from suppers, and the house wine is delicious. Great value, good atmosphere. Even out in the terrace it was cosy and comfortable. That’s why I keep going back.
Great service as always
Perfect meal fish always fresh not frozen, good potatoes used for the chips, target sauce amazing
Salad always crisp not overflowing with dressing
I would not recommend this restaurant The management have no customer service skills
In fact the manage is nothing short of rude
Clearly not interested in his job or his customers
We will not return
The best fish n chips in Glasgow . The staff are very helpful and friendly.
tried this coz I was stuck for joice in Glasgow lovely town center so we love our f and c,s and were very surprised came on par with our first choice f and c 49ers Barnard castle give it a try nice friendly quick service.
Never eat anywhere else when visiting Glasgow. Best place in Glasgow for fish and chips have been coming here for years now. That saying never judge a book by its cover comes in mind when walking doon the lane.
Fantastic service and whilst we were there a friend took ill and the staff couldn’t have been any nicer
Found at the bottom of a dirty alley the Chippy is on the first floor of an industrial looking building. The interior is nice with exposed brickwork. Very pleasant staff. Food was OK, It's a fish and chip shop what else can you say about it.
The meal although OK did not live up to the publicity.
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here. Food was prepared very quickly and tasted delicious. Will definitely be back!
Good food with good service from friendly and very competent staff
Would recommend it and worth a visit
We always book a table here whenever we are at Glasgow for a weekend. The staff are friendly and polite you will certainly will be looked after well. The fish is exceptional with a light crisp batter and tick cut chips.
Certainly worth a visit but remember to book a table as the restaurant is always busy.
Food delicious as usual. Soft drinks very expensive!!!
Took a friend who said "Your food is better than in Crail " which was voted best "chippie". The batter and freshness of fish is outstanding not to mention the absolute value! You are positively "the best in the west" -so keep up your excellent standard.
