The Chippy Doon The Lane
Fish was good. Chips not great. Service awful, waited 20 minutes for our 'plates' to be cleared. Wasn't overly busy. Didn't bother waiting for dessert
I love this restaurant. I eat here all the time. This occasion was a first date and I was offered the celebration meal for two which I previously didn’t know about. Even when it’s busy the restaurant never feels overcrowded or too loud unlike some places tend to get like. I will always give this place 10/10
It was a good lunch experience. We had good service, the food was excellent and the price was very fair. We would certainly go back and would recommend it to our friends.
Very small portion of haddock looked like the fish had been halved to give 2 portions out of 1 fillet. The gentlemen at the next table actually questioned the portion sixe and was told they were all the same size. Ive been to Chippy Doon the Lane a few times and can honestly say i was very disappointed on this occassion.
Redeeming a voucher I got for my Aunt for her Christmas
Fish was delicious, chips average. Disappointed to be served meal in a carboard box which resulted in meal becoming tepid after a short while. Tea tasted of water from an urn that needs descaling. Bread and butter good. Service was pleasant. All in all, a very expensive experience which we will not indulge in again nor recommend.
One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had!
Batter was fluffy and light and the fish was moist and tender. Chips were cooked to perfection.
Would definitely recommend to try it!
super fish suppers as always, love it! will go back without a doubt, been any times before never disappointed.
The best chippy i have ever eaten. You should try the sause, omg! And lemon sole was delicious. This place is on the top of my favourites!
Good as always. Best fish and chips in town. Will be back for sure
If want a chippy for lunch or dinner this is the place to go. Good choice of fish and other popular chippy favorites. Batter on the fish and fritters nice and crispy, and not over oily. The chips even had a crunch.
Well-prepared food in generous portions for a reasonable price served efficiently. The only drawback is the dismal, littered, walk to the lower entry and the steep stairs to the inner door.
The food here is always good and the portion size is generous . Classic fish tea with bread & butter and a cuppa is consistantly good .
Only criticism is that on my last visit the waitresses tended to "hover" to such an extent, it became slightly annoying then just plain wierd . I mean how many times can you assure someone that your fish and chips are great . I'll put this down to to the fact that it was quite quiet at the time so maybe they were bored . All round though it's pretty great .
Very accommodating, quick and friendly service and most importantly, delicious food served piping hot. Many other choices apart from suppers, and the house wine is delicious. Great value, good atmosphere. Even out in the terrace it was cosy and comfortable. That’s why I keep going back.
Great service as always
Perfect meal fish always fresh not frozen, good potatoes used for the chips, target sauce amazing
Salad always crisp not overflowing with dressing
I would not recommend this restaurant The management have no customer service skills
In fact the manage is nothing short of rude
Clearly not interested in his job or his customers
We will not return
The best fish n chips in Glasgow . The staff are very helpful and friendly.
tried this coz I was stuck for joice in Glasgow lovely town center so we love our f and c,s and were very surprised came on par with our first choice f and c 49ers Barnard castle give it a try nice friendly quick service.
Never eat anywhere else when visiting Glasgow. Best place in Glasgow for fish and chips have been coming here for years now. That saying never judge a book by its cover comes in mind when walking doon the lane.
Fantastic service and whilst we were there a friend took ill and the staff couldn’t have been any nicer
Found at the bottom of a dirty alley the Chippy is on the first floor of an industrial looking building. The interior is nice with exposed brickwork. Very pleasant staff. Food was OK, It's a fish and chip shop what else can you say about it.
The meal although OK did not live up to the publicity.
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here. Food was prepared very quickly and tasted delicious. Will definitely be back!
Good food with good service from friendly and very competent staff
Would recommend it and worth a visit
We always book a table here whenever we are at Glasgow for a weekend. The staff are friendly and polite you will certainly will be looked after well. The fish is exceptional with a light crisp batter and tick cut chips.
Certainly worth a visit but remember to book a table as the restaurant is always busy.
Food delicious as usual. Soft drinks very expensive!!!
Took a friend who said "Your food is better than in Crail " which was voted best "chippie". The batter and freshness of fish is outstanding not to mention the absolute value! You are positively "the best in the west" -so keep up your excellent standard.
Always visit, whilst in Glasgow, it’s part of our day out, food always fresh, warm and staff are very attentive, love it!!
We enjoyed our first visit and hope to be back in the future
Friendly efficient service,
" you get what it says on the tin" would return.
Food was excellent. All freshly made. Staff were friendly
Nice place for simple food. Pleasant staff and and value for money.
Superb fish and chips. Great value meal deals. Excellent wines. Will be back.
We had a lovely time here for my friends birthday, been a few times and never disappointed! Food is amazing!! Will defo be back again and again, Cherylann Connor
Absolutely love the Chippy Doon the lane for a treat. We come from Peterhead to the craft shows and really look forward to having our meal there. Place lovely and the staff are wonderful. See you all next October
cant complain about the fish and chips they were excellent ,good portion and hot ,however I did have to say to the manager that the sauce bottles were not acceptable ….the tops had not been cleaned for a while as they were black and cant begin to think what germs were fermenting round the lid ….very off putting , even the brown sauce had a look of it having been lying for a while .I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I think this is something that should be checked regularly, it wont stop me from returning
Ok overall. Very very untidy. Tables full of dirty plates. Bar area swamped with dirty glasses. Rather grim looking!
Food was ok. Tasty but small portions. Staff friendly once you got them to serve us.
Disappointed as heardit was good.
Went for my dads 60th as he loves fish and chips. He said it was the best chippy he’d had in a long time. The fish and chips with a glass of wine is a good deal.
I didn’t want the chips but they offered to still give us the deal and give me a side salad in place of the chips-great friendly service.
Nice place for up market fish tea and quirkie surroundings. Toilets (ladies) immaculate. Good value for money and quality of fish and chips excellent. Very happy with our experience.
Seated in outer area away from main restaurant, although just a tented area, it was warm, bright and inviting and more importantly quiet. We arrived and other customers were just finishing up. As we had 2 young children with us, we were happy to have lots of space and a large table area.
Adult food served in cardboard boxes, god sized portions and fish, I'm told was good, haddock. I had haggis fritters which were lovely. Kids meal large for small children but couldn't be faulted as included bread& butter and a drink.
Would recommend and we would return. Thank you 😀👍🏻
Been 3 times now absolutly love it as does my family worth the journey wouldnt visit glasgow without a chippy doon the lane 😋
