We had the sushi lunch special and it was really good and fresh. The place gets really crowded and you have to sit so close to the next table that’s the only downside. We ordered the yellowtail scallion, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and these steak and scallions app. Also got the dark miso which was an extra $2 (not worth it).
I usually get the sushi which is is generally very good quality that is classically prepared. This time we had yellowtail fish collar, "tofu steak' which was delicate and tasty, mushrooms in butter sauce and gyosa. Also very good. Sushi Yasaka is often very crowded which means that it is hard to hear your companions and tha you should make a reservation to go there. It has a good value point between quality and cost.
Great, fresh food. Excellent service! One of my favorites in the city
Absolutely fantastic sushi.
Well, I used to love this place, despite the chaos that always ensues. And I was really happy to get a reservation when I needed one. But our table wasn't ready - not necessarily their fault, as I notices people sitting and chatting way after paying their bill. The most disappointing part was the skimpy portions. Never felt that way before, and we'd been many times. We ordered our usual plus an additional (expensive "special" roll), and left hungry. The special roll was a particular affront, at 6 tiny bites for $14.
It's really close to where we live, but really doubt we'll return.
Great sushi. Quick service. Ideal for pre-opera or pre-concert dining.
Amazing, as always.
Dining room is way to loud to have a conversation.
Everything was delicious & beautiful !
wonderful, super fresh sushi and sashimi on the Upper West Side.
This is a true Japanese gem...outstanding food. Loved the hamachi-kama bento lunch...huge portion and delicious.
We were really happy to get a lunch reservation on Christmas day. With dinner plans, something light was in order. We live a few blocks from Yasaka, but often cannot get a reservation. Christmas Day was a great time to go. The food was better than ever (or maybe as good as ever, but we haven't been able to get in and forgot....). Next year we might just do Christmas dinner here.
a cut above your average sushi restaurant. i recommend it all the time.
Best place for sushi in nyc
The food is always good. However, they were overbooked and we needed up sitting by the sore which made the dining experience uncomfortable
The sushi and rolls are the freshest. A reservation is a must as it is always crowded.
I love this place. It’s always good and often great!
The food both cooked and otherwise is excellent and incredibly consistent. Great agedashi tofu. Sushi and sashimi are really first rate.
The staff are indifferent. No one smiles, nor seems happy to have you visit. In fact, getting close to closing time with on time opentable reservations, you are informed while you are ordering your dinner that the kitchen is closing so... if you want anything else later you are SOL. If you like to Order a few items for 2 people soup, salad, app etc before entree, expect everything to show up at the same time, as to overcrowd the table with hot and cold items all calling your attention. I can no longer excuse the Indifferent service.
We love this place. Quality sushi for reasonable prices. They were able to make changes to my daughter order to accommodate her preference. So kind! Highly recommend if you are in the area did concerts and performances. Don’t forget to make reservations.
I invited my friend who had never been to Yasaka. I always enjoy the lunches.
I tried the chicken yakatori and was underwhelmed. I will go back to salmon or sushi.
Also the shrimp shumai are getting a little doughy for my taste.
My friend thought everything was good. She did not spect her chicken katsu to be spicy.
But for the price it cannot be beat.
Fabulous food. Fabulous service. Had the lunchbox and it was excellent! I highly recommend the tofu steak!
Always the experience is wonderful. It is the first time I had a dinner with a girl I like and she is satisfied with the food in Sushi Yasaka. I am super happy with that. Thank you very much.
An unexpected surprise. My companion cannot eat sushi, so we limited ourselves to prepared dishes. Boiled octupus; soba noodles; eel. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Great neighborhood sushi restaurant. Excellent quality sushi for the price. Delicious appetizers. Half a flight below street level and minimal ambience and on the noisy side. Very hard to get a reservation on almost every night.
Great quality to the fish. Attentive service.. Fine ambience.
I can't say enough for Sushi Yasaka. Probably the best sushi I've ever had, including my time in NYC. The flavors were not rudimentary but not overly complex and the freshness was incredible. The texture was by far the best I've had. On a slightly critical note, the woman answering the phone revealed that they couldn't hold my seat longer than 15min due to train delays because they were planning on rotating the table 1hr later. We were rushing to another event after so the efficiency wasn't a problem, however the expectation made me feel like we couldn't take our time and enjoy the incredible meal.
Delicious as always, best sushi in the neighborhood
Met up with some old friends - kind of a reunion. Staff at the restaurant were very accommodating as we were slow and loud(!) and asked them to take photos! Lovely. Highly recommended for a casual, yummy meal...
Food quality you would expect at a much more expensive place. Service is solid but not great. Overall, great place
very fresh authentic food--always a lot of Japanese people there eating....that should tell you something. Great value--excellent.
Sushi Deluxe is one of the best buy set menu in the NY.
Fried Oyster was so tiny, it was a little disappointment.
Softshell club roll was one of the best I have ever eaten.
Most delicious sushi ever! Throughly enjoyed!
Excellent food. Accommodating for our baby as well!
Maybe I ordered wrong, but I found the food to be average sushi; not the normal excellent quality from there
Consistently great experience. Fresh sashimi, good service and delicious. Wish it was easier to get reservations bt glad when I do
This was my first time having sushi in NYC, and it was amazing. I've had good sushi in Japan, and I believe this is comparable. Next time I'm in NYC I will be back.
We had to wait about 10min even though we were on time for our reservation. There was a crowd at the entrance also waiting for their reserved tables to get ready. The staff at the entrance was not very pleasant. The restaurant looks very nice from the entrance, but there was a bit of a fishy smell right away (understandable because of the food it serves, but the smell was more vivid than I’ve experienced in other sushi restaurants. However once we were seated, our servers were extremely friendly. Food was served quickly and it was DELICIOUS. Would definitely recommend, but hope that they can improve the experience at the entrance!!
The food & atmosphere were awesome! I had the shrimp & avocado salad and salmon sushi - so delicious! My daughter had the special miso soup and shrimp tempura and salmon rolls. The food was super fresh & service and so attentive. Would definitely go back. Restaurant is a short walk from the Beacon Theatre.
Rushed out the door for the second time in
Excellent sushi, but the restaurant is very cramped, very noisy, and the service is spotty.
