We had reservation at 10 pm and arrived at 10:15 because the show we attended before finished at 10 pm. We were rushed to the table and the restaurant was quite full, including the sushi bar. The sake list was difficult to read with sake by the glass at 10$ each and bottles up to 65$ for 720 ml, quite unusual size for sake. We ordered a bottle and the sake was basically undrinkable and at 65$, quite overpriced. We ordered appetizers and sashimi a la carte and the presentation was below average with average quality of the fish. At 10:40 pm the sushi chefs disappeared all of a sudden and at 10:50 pm the restaurant was empty and basically ready to close. We asked for the check (233$ total without tip) and left with no intention to come back. The worst Japanese restaurant we have been in the last 30 years in NYC and we doubted that this venue is really run by a Japanese restaurateur.
The sushi is the best in NYC! I love the authentic feel, the freshest fish and the most delicious appetizers!
Great as always. Very fresh, well prepared sushi--mostly Japanese chefs. Good selection of items on the menu. Excellent, very well run place.
Sushi Yasaka is *my* neighborhood sushi joint which I adore for its inexpensive, beautifully prepared & very tasty, more-than-enough food for lunch deal. Now it's going to be my destination for celebration! My BFF wanted to have a culinary adventure for her birthday dinner. Having never eaten sushi, she decided that would be the perfect culinary exploration - and thanks to Sushi Yasaka's excellent chefs and gracious staff it was! Gorgeous platters of gleaming sushi were beckoning to us from the surrounding table but we ordered conservative dishes, because 1st time for sushi: Tempura Appetizer, Rainbow Roll, Fluke Ume Shiso Roll and Yaki Salmon Ikura Cucumber Roll. We thoroughly enjoyed it all! Our generously filled glasses of a slightly dry rosé were a perfect accompaniment. Since we're were celebrating, we had to have dessert and choose the mille-crepe cake with a green tea cream filling. The cake was decorated with a dusted jelly and a red-bean topping. It was beautifully-plated with kiwis, strawberries and whipped cream plus a a scoop of green tea ice cream that had a birthday candle waiting to be blown out. No question that our wish was to come back for another sushi adventure!
Very fresh small friendly
We love it
It's an excellent sushi place and so it's very busy. The value is good and the food superior. Too noisy and rushed though.
Excellent good. Neighborhood gem.
We had sashimi, soba and udon and enjoyed them all. The service was efficient and professional.
For me, Yasaka is the best sushi restaurant in Manhattan. The freshness of the fish--even on a Sunday, when I would never dare to eat fish at any restaurant--is perfection. The menu is very varied; the only question is what to order. I usually end up with the Sushi Platter Deluxe and end up stuffed with silky slices atop perfectly vinegared rice, and a generous piece of uni when it is available. I love this place. Be sure to make a reservation though--it gets very crowded. And when it's crowded, it's noisy. Just focus on the food.
Ease of seating, timely honoring of reservation.
This is my favorite place! mushroom app is soooo good.
Almost at the level where you don't want to tell anyone about it. Really really perfect sushi and sashimi at very fair prices. Don't go all out with the rolls--they're good, but the sushi and sashimi are exceptional.
Excellent, authentic and high quality sushi at a reasonable price point.
Delicious sushi and great service. Very much enjoyed.
Overcrowded , loud and the service was less than stellar. Small portions.Overall good quality sushi, big didn’t love the ambiance.
Great value and excellent fresh sushi. A bit noisy but it did not diminish the experience.
Food is fresh and delicious. Lunch special is a great price.
Excellent food. Very fresh. Quick service. Not noisy.
Very noisy - staff with poor eye contact - never smiled - speedy service - like a machine - food good but overall dining experience was not enjoyable - popular place so obviously others like it enough to return - not us.
We'll try this restaurant one more time, but will otherwise find another place in our new neighborhood to frequent!
We arrived 10 mins early for our 12pm Open Table rsrvn. The staff was prepping the tables etc. When we sat down on the 4 side chairs in the wait area, the bleached-blonde hostess demanded that we leave immediately & come back at noon. We were a bit SHOCKED since we’ve never been treated so rudely during the many years that we’ve been coming here. The hostess even made an old man with emphysema equipment wait outside in the hot, humid day! WHAT HAPPENED to a favorite local restaurant?
Instead of miso soup or salad, you can chose ONLY ONE. The sushi rolls are now filled minimally with protein (eel; salmon; or tuna which was minced!) Smaller food portions for higher prices ($4-$5 increase). The only attentive staff was the water guy.
Very DISAPPOINTING experience especially for longtime customers like us. There’s many other better-valued Japanese restaurants in NYC, that are located centrally in Manhattan.
I had the big tempura plate. Fantastic!!!!! Recommend to anyone.
As good as it gets in this price range.
Love this place! Fantastic fresh sushi.
This was a great sushi place; will definitely come again. The lunch special is killer. Every time I come, I leave more than satisfied.
One bad thing happened
We were in conversation and were told
That reservations were waiting
We were there all of 80 minutes and ordered 4
Turned what would have been an excellent experience into a bad taste in the mouth
And I was celebrating my birthday
The best fish for the most reasonable prices. A true neighborhood gem.
Great place. Well made fresh sushi--authentic, always full of Japanese people. Excellent quality/value. A little crowded, noisy but efficient.
Simply delicious food and excellent prices. The sushi was delicious. The staff were very professional. My only complaint is how noisy it was. Perhaps that's inevitable at a restaurant that's always crowded because it's so good.
The food is terrific and the service is terrific as well. this is a very popular restaurant and reservations are a must. They open @ 5:15 and are full by 6PM. Maybe lunch is easier
I wish they had more interesting rolls. Just the usual. Everything is fresh.
This time we ordered the omakase and it was excellent!
Would love for there to be some more creative rolls. Food is fresh tasting.
Excellent food and service. Great neighborhood place.
Fabulous food- sushi and shrimp tempura were divine. Would definitely go back next time I am in nyc
Each time we return to Sushi Yasaka the food is consistently delicious, fresh, and well worth the money. We always bring our out of town friends and family to dinner and they are always impressed.
The restaurant can be quite noisy, but on a Sunday afternoon in August, the ambiance was calm. As always, food is fresh and expertly prepared.
High quality fresh fish at a reasonable price !
