This whole experience started going south from the beginning. I had a reservation for 3 people and although my table was ready, I wasn't allowed to go to it until my entire party arrived. I was hoping to sit at my table and have a glass of wine before my friends arrived, but that wasn't an option. Why? Because of Covid??
My major complaint however (maybe enough to keep me from going back) is due to the new procedure put in place to order food. It is cumbersome, slow and honestly pretty ridiculous. I've been to many restaurants recently and am familiar enough with the QR code process to get the menu, etc. But Stone is taking it to a whole other level. To place an order you need to go through the whole list of menu items yourself via the QR reading program, type in the quantity of each item you want, type in your credit card information, expiration date, security code, your billing address and then hope everything goes well, which it didn't for us. We were super frustrated after trying 3 different credit cards. (They also have a pretty sneaky way of adding a 20% tip for each order you place. Not usually a problem, but where was the service for which I was tipping?) We mentioned to 3 passing waitstaff that we would need someone to actually take our order, and by that time we had probably been in the restaurant for over 30 minutes. Why so complicated? I understand the reason for the QR to get the menu (although here they give you a menu at the table anyway), but for cripes sake, get a server over to take the order. What if you have questions about menu items? Do not get me wrong, once we were able to obtain the services of a waitstaff, she was wonderful. I wish I remembered her name!
My last issues is that the table really wasn't very clean, certainly not sanitized as advertised on the table card, and their portions are pretty small considering the prices. On the plus side, the wine was very reasonably priced and a very decent pour.
What a mess. At the Table you are required to order your food from your smart phone.
Took us about 20 minutes to figure this out.
The waitress did try to help but ordering was quite difficult. For the record, I’ve been using a smart phone for about 20 years.
To beat all you had to pay for your food before receiving it and include a Tip when ordering your food and drink.
The default tip amount was 18%.
Food was just OK.
Very stressful lunch. In spite of the nice ambiance.
Contact free ordering and payment was convenient., but no one ever checked up on us while dining. The fish and chips fish wasn’t done and the breading was soggy. Tornado chips were okay.
Delicious and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
Good food and great help in figuring out the QR ordering!
Lame- they have turned into a DIY type restaurant- you order everything online, no waiters no service, I have more service at a fast food location. It’s sucked!
The food menu is limited, but delicious choices. There are many choices of beverages, but it was hard to find staff to help us with narrowing down the choice and ask for a recommendation. I did not like having to order from a code, prepay, and tip on hopeful service. I would have tipped less. There was no effort on customer service, because someone was already tipped.
Great social restaurant. Romantic setting at night.
I absolutely love the ambiance, the food and the outdoor feeling I get when I dine there. I don't drink, but my friends do and they love your brews. Thanks so much for staying open. You are one of the best breweries in North County.
I’ve fined at Stone Brewery many times, but this was the first time I had visited since the pandemic started. They’ve implemented new protocols to create contact for servers and customers like mobile ordering. That was easy. Also, the garden was lovely and we had a great table with ample social distancing. But, the food was awful. We ordered electric noodles and they were meh. We also ordered a chicken sandwich and it was all breading and cold. Honestly, a Popeye’s chicken sandwich is 50x better. One of my favorites back in the day was their pretzels, but they changed the recipe and not for the better. I wouldn’t go again anytime soon. It’s too expensive for food that is subpar.
Hey guys, Your food is very good. Your atmosphere is great and that keeps us coming back. By nature of Covid the service has taken a huge hit. Understood. Ordering beer on an app is convenient, ordering food with minimal employee contact feels... French....
I took my daughter to the bathroom... it was trashed, garbage every where. Toilet paper every where, paper towels overflowing. Water everywhere. I’d like to see that get cleaned up.
This place is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend it!
The impossible burger was delicious, especially paired with a flight of outstanding brews!
As a family with little kids we were expecting to get a table down at the garden or closer to the fish. We were seated in the bar area so it affected our experience
We're so grateful that such a peaceful and beautiful place is available to dine at during this awful time. The pleasant atmosphere in the garden is amazing. We felt 100% safe. The wait staff works really hard. We had a great time with amazing food and drinks.
Service was poor. Waited 45 min to have our table cleared.
At checkin the host and server were very welcoming and friendly. The contactless ordering process was a complete nightmare!!! If you order 2 of the same entrees you are not able to individually customize to your preference. We had to put in 2 orders, ONE MINUTE apart, once at 8:28 pm the 2nd at 8:29 pm, both times I received a text "your order has been confirmed". I was skeptical and asked the server to confirm the 2nd order went through because it wasn't loading on our tab, the 2nd order had not! He suggested we put in the 2nd order again it was now 8:36pm. I receive a third text "your order has been confirmed". Our meals were received over 20 minutes apart, not before I had to flag a server down to follow up on the 2nd entree. The 1st meal is now cold and not customized as ordered. My date picked out what he didn't want rather than make a big fuss, which he shouldn't have had to. We ordered a second round of drinks, 30 minutes had passed and still no drinks. I called over a server yet again for the third time this evening, only to to find out they didn't have our order even though I received a text "your order has been confirmed". Needless to say this was the worst 1st dinner date either of us had ever experienced. I was very disappointed! We may or may not be back again but as of right now, no we would not recommend Stone Brewery to friends or family.
There are no servers!!!!! Ridiculous! Table for four and you have to order on their App! Ordered Onion Rings to start, they arrived and were cold! There are no servers to complain to, and nowhere on the app is there a complaints box!!! It was a Saturday, so expected to be busy, interminable wait for food, I have been aware for years kitchen cannot handle a rush it is inadequate! We ordered additional drinks. And at the end of the night one and a half hours later, our table was full of dirty water glasses, dirty beer glasses, dirty appetizer plates and dirty entrée plates and one crumpled paper napkin per person, covered with grease from the onion rings. A lovely sight! Try a litter harder Stone!!! At those prices it is a disgrace!
We usually have a great experience here but not tonight. Was trying to check in with our reservation but had to wait, no problem there but other parties that had the same time slot, who checked in after us were seated before us. Front staff not very helpful. Was seated at a table that leaned so far over our beers slid down and almost fell off the table, had to flag someone down to help with our table.
I will not go back until they are using servers again. This is the second time we have been during the pandemic. You have to order on your phone, there is no server. No one ever busses the table or brings water or just generally check to make sure all is going well at the table.
They put the tip automatically on the bill. I'm sure this is because the service is so bad no one was tipping what the bus people wanted. Every other restaurant I have been to has servers and they have been wonderful.
The cheeseburger was terrible. So disappointed .. beer was good.
Best atmosphere! Beautiful landscape for dinner and drinks.
Beautiful ambience and great service. Food is a bit pricey but definitely recommended.
This is the first time my family has been out to a dine-in restaurant since COVID shutdowns. We chose to make the 2+ hour drive to Stone because we love the beer, we have had some of our best food and dining experiences here, and we wanted to celebrate my sister’s 30th birthday.
We were glad to see staff enforcing mask and social distancing guidelines. At one point a member in our party quickly moved his mask aside to take a sip of water and a staff member asked him to put it back on. It seemed kind of rude at first, but ultimately I appreciate strict enforcement over letting people get away with not wearing masks.
The ambiance and service were great, as usual, but we were a bit disappointed by the food. The onion rings and fish & chips were soggy, and the Xocoveza creme brûlée was entirely liquid, like melted ice cream. I will say that the tacos had great flavor and the service was top notch. We loved placing our order via QR code - it kept the beer flowing and allowed us to set the pace for appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
I did not like the way you had to order from the menu. Very complicated!
Always a treat to go to Stone! They did such a good job of being COVID and family-friendly. Highly Reccomend!
Great food, great beer, great service!
Delicious beer and food, great customer service, and beautiful spot.
Outdoor dining. Great location. Garden are is beautiful.
I booked our dinner reservation late Thursday night it was simple and easy! Our reservation was easy to check in and ordering from the app on the phone wasn’t bad at all! I enjoyed my night so much and definitely will be returning soon Only this time I’ll arrive earlier just because didn’t realize that they close at at 10 and we made our reservation at 9, so I Felt a little pressed for time towards the end to finish my beer and food. Over all now I know and can’t wait to go back and enjoy another beautiful night.
Stone Escondido my favorite my place in San Diego but servers really extremely rude and also I made online reservation in advance they didn’t give us outside spot what’s point making reservation then ...
Stone has the ideal setup for getting great food and drinks while still being able to deal well with all of the safety regulations.
Lukewarm food. Nothing special.
Food was good. Friendly service and ample seating that follows health guidelines. Will be returning!
Really great place to go to during Covid. Outside dining is fantastic. Healthy food available and great wine.
The on line ordering and tip up front is poor. Our service was adequate at best and our tip would have reflected it but we had to prepay
The Food App sucks and they should have someone take your order instead of trying to figure it out especially since the Wi-Fi Service was very week which really made it a challenge! Otherwise the Escondido Stone Brewery is Awesome!
Thanks for the great review!
Great outdoor dining facility! Cozy and warm ambience.
Thanks for the awesome review, David! See you next time!
Beautiful setting. But the food doesn’t measure up to the menu descriptions. Also it’s a sit down restaurant setting but menu and ordering are automated through an app that the diner has to struggle through. Therefore little human interaction and bad food. What did I pay the premium of restaurant dining for?
