It was good just the food wasn’t great the chicken sandwich that both my mother and brother in law got was burned and there was hardly any chicken inside. The fact that you didn’t have an option to use a real person to order and pay was very frustrating. Other than that we enjoyed our time
Was visiting San Diego for the first time and had to stop at Stone 3 times since we liked it so much! Beer is amazing, any of the food we had was delicious. Didn’t have a reservation the first time so we sat inside, but the last time we went we were in the garden which was incredible to sit outside. The ahi nachos were very tasty, favorite beer was either the w00tstout or the salt and lime lager. Will definitely be back! Ordering online through the phone was a little finicky - didn’t realize you had to order water to the table at first.
I was in hopes that the BLT would have made it back on the menu. That was a disappointment.
It was a beautiful setup outside. The staff were wonderful.
The menus and ordering are all done via an app, which really takes away from the personal touch. When issues arise with the app, it was difficult to find a staff member to assist. We waited for over 45 minutes for our appetizer because we could not find anyone to give us a status and you cannot look that information up on the app.
The food was wonderful..
I tried to have a great evening to celebrate an engagement in our family. It was a surprise for the couple and nothing was smooth. The way we had to order was terrible (by mobile). Nobody enjoyed their meals. The service was terrible. I couldn’t even get anyone to turn the heater on by us for the baby with us, but all the other heaters were on. I regretfully tipped 18% and wish I could take it back. The only thing good was the beer. It was really a terrible experience.
Food and service was okay. Didn’t like that you had to order and pay via phone. Hard to flag down server/waiter. Place and ambiance was enjoyable. Drinks were great though.
Great service and all staff were very helpful. Had a problem with reordering, but it was fixed immediately.
One of my favorite places I’ve been to. The layout and atmosphere was amazing
Only issue with the straight automatron style ordering is that you lose some of the personal touch a waiter brings.
For example, we ordered the poke "nachos" appetizer and specified no Sriracha Mayo / on the side, as someone at the table is unable to eat spicy food.
When the food arrived, our specification wound up not being carried out, and no one checked on us, until the appetizer was eaten. In other words, had a server been the one to take the order, or check on us after it was delivered, we probably would have sent it back and had them replace the order.
It was brought the attention of the next food or beer runner, who then had someone attend to us, so as to be sure that none of the rest of the food we ordered would be spicy, and or come as we specified.
We were attended to, and appreciated the personal care presented with our continued dining experience.
Just don't want to see places like Stone completely abandon a Captain or Server position, going forward, just because technology is capable of doing the job. Because, it isn't.
Cheers, love Stone Brewing Company and enjoyed the experience once we weren't afraid to order food.
Ambiance was amazing as always here. Such a fun way to end the night. Sadly the beers were not our favorite but we did enjoy the pretzel and ended up getting 2 one was on the house just because! Would definitely come back just for food and vibes. So beautiful here and loved the Covid update that we can just order it all from our phone and they bring it to the table! We had a wonderful time :)
it was not explained to us at all how to order when we arrived so we sat at the table for 10 minutes waiting for service until we figured it out on our own.
Great experience. The food and beer was great. Ordering system was weird but worked out just fine.
I love the scenery and how peaceful everything is. I also liked how easy it was to place a reservation online. However, I don’t see the point in tipping for service when there are no servers taking your order, only bringing you the food that you order yourself on the app. Due to this I rated the serve quality low. I feel like the servers should at least be walking around to the tables asking how everything is, even if they aren’t actually taking the orders themselves. It sort of felt like we were on our own.
The service was good but different with COVID protocols. It was a birthday dinner and it was an awkward experience. I didn’t get to even ask if there was a possible birthday treat!
Great restaurant! Love you can bring your dogs. Plenty of outside seating. Good service. You order and pay on your phone. So no waitress to take your order or answer your food questions, that the only downside. But great place and food. Will be going back!!
Love Stone Brewery. We enjoyed our early dinner and were seated within 5 mins of our reservation time. We all agreed that the food was good & we did not feel pressured to rush through our dinner. My only concern was the change in the ordering process. This changed was not explained -scan the QR code & place your own order. When I walked up to the bar to ask for directions the waiter was friendly & very matter of fact about the change. He explained we had to place order in the order we wanted things to come out. We had a party of 10 so that definitely took time: 1. Figuring out the app. 2. Finding the items in the right order 3. Making sure the order was correct. A little extra stress that really was not needed. If there is a change in the way the food needs to be ordered, take a few minutes to call this out to eliminate confusion.
They currently use contactless everything. Which means you do not have a designated waiter/waitress to assist you or answer any questions. For example, we had questions about menu items and no one was available to ask before we placed our order via our phone. I tried calling the number listed on the app site but no one answered. You order, inquire, and pay via an app. The employees were all working hard but there was no personal customer service. So, until they provide actual personal service I won't be back.
Went on Sunday early afternoon. The dining was outdoors and was perfect for the weather. The restaurant has some nice, unique outdoor scenery. Liked the food, had a unique appetizer, which was a good mix of things that most people probably already have in their refrigerators. Noise is okay, though every now and then, you will hear the planes from the adjacent San Diego Airport. The only strange thing was the service was a little different, as you have to request everything (from your table) online.
The food was quite good and we enjoyed what we ate. However, the ordering app was very annoying. Anything that takes a full page of instructions is more than I want to deal with when eating out. I wanted to visit with my friends, not spend the first half an hour staring at my phone trying to figure out how to order a drink. Because ordering and paying are app-based, you don't have a server checking on you and no one to answer questions. I'm so glad no one in our party had dietary restrictions -- that would have been a nightmare. Full points to the manager who did come help once we voiced our displeasure at the system, but we won't be back until they are back to human-based service.
Very nice place to visit while in San Diego. Food was tasty and resonably priced.
Amazing food with a beautiful setting. It's been a while since we've been back here and we missed it. Service is a little different, no real wait service, you just order and it comes to the table. We didn't really mind, minus never getting water, but all in all, a tasty meal.
Great beer and wine. Food average. Service via QR code so a new experience there. Staff were friendly and available when needed. Next time we will just order appetizers to share.
Love the outdoor venue. A great place to meet up with friends.
First time my husband an I had a date post-Covid and this was the most wonderful experience. We made a reservation for a weekday during lunch (while the kids were in daycare- otherwise it’s not much of a date!) We got a nice table by the koi pond and fountain as we had specified outdoor on opentable. It’s was gorgeous. There was a mama duck and 10 little chicks hanging out! Anyway, they have a QR code system for ordering food and beer that reduces contact, tables are spread out, everything seemed streamlined and clean. Food selection and food were both great. It was a little weird that we got tartar sauce instead of mustard with our pretzel, and they were out of a salad I wanted. Otherwise it’s a great menu. Everything we got was delicious. Thanks, Stone!
The garden is beautiful and spacious. We didn't have anyone at the tables around us. Food and service were great.
The ambience was very nice and the ordering method was different but we adapted to it. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because 3 out of 4 of our food dishes were not that great. Mine (chow fun noodles) was on the salty side, and the other two were not that memorable. The fourth dish was liked very much by its recipient. The drinks were good but we didn't understand why we couldn’t order mixed drinks at the table from our phone but had to go to the bar. There were no mixed drink options from the website, only mimosas, which were good by the way. Overall it was a pretty experience because the place is beautiful and the kids loved the koi, but I don’t think I’d go back if I was paying.
Great location and great beers, unfortunately, the food was mediocre.
Had to ask hostess 3 times why we were being skipped for seating. We waited 45 min after our reservation to be seated and there were many open tables. Once seated service was great but really bad experience with checkin/seating wait time.
I get the covid situation, but no improvements have been made to the same ordering system they had a year ago. It's slow, too cumbersome, and it makes u tip 18% when you cash out a tab.
Also, the service was impersonal. We had to ask multiple times for ketchup and extra serving plates. And the only way a server would come back to our table was if we ordered something else.
We also had a large party, 12 of us. And they wouldn't let us sit down at all unless 8 people had arrived. None of this was explained to us when making the reservation, so I was unable to set up the table for my kids birthday party which I was told I was going to be able to do.
It's sad to have such a great brand, and not take pride in serving your guests. It used to not be this way at this location. Then again, over the past decade, our stone bistro experiences at esco and here have been hit or miss. And that goes for the lackluster food as well.
My advice, set your expectations well below average and plan to just drink. Then it'll be 4 stars every time.
Great outdoor dining area.
Our entire experience here was lovely! Lots of spaced out tables, quick and easy to order from our phones, and service was lovely.
Everything done on app / ordering / service, etc. I’m not super tech savvy, and parts of it were very confusing.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Stone celebrating two birthdays. I had requested heaters and an umbrella for "older" guests and was amazed at the accomodations and attentiveness of the staff! Always nice to dine outdoors!
Love this place. New QR code is great.
Our experience was Outstanding. We had some confusion on the order and the manager quickly personally addressed the situation. All the staff were so ready to satisfy their customers requests! Amazing! Like never before!
Had reservations. Ordering is through a QR code and was seamless. Food was very good and the beer flight was awesome.
The Bombay Burrito is rather disappointing. A fusion of two great cuisines that just falls flat. It lacks any spicy kick, which is what the description of curry flavoring implies. The curried potatoes are bland and mushy. The cauliflower is just there--while it adds a bit of crunch, it is under seasoned.
Like the new app service it was perfect food good beer good nicely accommodated our large group.
The constant planes flying low overhead took a bit to get used to, but the outdoor patio was huge and so nice. The food was good, not amazing but definitely good. I'm not a beer drinker, so I can't speak to the beer, but everyone else in my party seemed to enjoy it!
For covid times I had a great experience! The spacing was great, the service was so fast, and the employees were very kind. The setting was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion.
