Staff friendly and efficient but the food is nothing special ☹️
Service was not friendly or welcoming at all, horrible ambiance and dirty toilets. Food was good but a shame the rest doesnt match that standard.
Fish Saag was well received, but the chicken in my Madras tasted just about OK but was hard (=old).
Service was good.
Atmosphere was non-existent as we were the only 2 people in the (large) restaurant for lunch.
Toilets were clean - a good sign, as not always the case in “Indian” restaurants!
Great food and very helpful staff. Thoroughly recommend.
Just a great place in a sea of competitors on Brick Lane .
2nd time there and equally happy with food , service & price .
Good and reliable, as always. One of the best on Brick Lane.
Good service, nice and welcoming. Food was lovely. Reasonably priced.
Delicious food and lovely staff. I really enjoyed the meal with the family.
Fantastic food with fast and friendly service. Can't wait for my next visit.
The Standard is a typical Indian curry house in Brick Lane. However, the food is a bit above the norm and is delicious. Ambience is good and I would definitely recommend it.
First experience with Brick Lane and the wonderful curries of the UK. Solid food with solid service. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Great curry. Lots of food and friendly service.
Good but pretty standard curry house fare really. Good value.
Worked well - presentation was better than your average indian in the area, and the food was tasty - can't necessarily call it fine dining, but it served the purpose for a casual work dinner
This is a nice Indian with the ability to cater for large groups. The service is efficient and food was tasty and fresh.
went here for a birthday lunch before visiting the art of the brick. We arrived early but the staff happily let us sit while we waited. Staff were friendly. Food was great, even for our fussy children.
We went to balti house on a Saturday night, the venue was packed! We had to squeeze onto a table of 4 surround by other tables on all side. Could almost reach across and take food from the table next to us.
Upon arrival the first waiter was attentive and offered ask us how many pompadoms we wanted and had a bit of a joke.
But after that, and showing we were ready to order we waited 30mins to place our order. It was ok as they allowed us to bring in some wine we bought elsewhere.
Food arrived promptly after that and we stayed much later even though we had finished eating. They didn't mind.
All in all, good place for a catch up, just make sure you have plenty to talk about incase they are a little slow in getting to you.
Our party of 9 arrived v early and were accommodated with no problem. Kids were catered for via the mild dishes on the menu. Food was tasty & just right portion sizes for lunchtime. We were given a 20% discount as we had booked ahead......v generous! Would visit again & would recommend.
As always we had a brilliant time at Standard Balti House. The food is presented and tastes outstanding. Has been our favourite Brick Lane restaurant for years and we tried a lot.
I ate there and really liked the food, my dining companions agreed. Other people who go there will also probably enjoy the experience. The loos are quite posh. The service was good. The place was full of other people eating the food.
Excellent service, good value. Hard to comment on ambiance as we showed up on a quiet Sunday evening.
Food was good however, service was quite slow even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Great value and a decent place. Will definitely go back again.
We ate at Standard Baiti House on Monday and went back on Tuesday. Yummm! Saag paneer was truly amazing.
This restaurant deserves the many good reviews it has . We were not dissappointed.
As the name suggests...nothing special, but standard. Reliable, friendly, enjoyable.
right in Brick Lane, a perfect eating place. Good value and good food. Friendly waiters. Nothing fancy but very decent experience!
Food is fresh, service a little offhand and prices inflated because of the 'standard' (sorry) 20% discount but ask for the set menu which is a starter, main, rice or nan and drink for £15. You can't go wrong! Avoid the korma which is very very sweet. Another main was quite coconutty sweet as well but generally this is a lot of food for the money and most of it is good.
We had another lovely meal at The Standard Balti house, Brick lane, London.
The food was really really nice & amazing value! As always the waiters always made sure we had everything that we wanted & gave us fast, courteous service! We'll definitely be going back!
It's hard to know which of the many curry houses on Brick Lane are any good. We were introduced to the Standard by a local and while the outside is fairly unpreposessing it's a cut above some of the street's more lacklustre offerings. There are interesting Sylheti dishes as well as the familiar curries, the staff are lovely and they are able to take into account allergens - dishes made to order unlike some of the more rated establishments in the area. We keep coming back.
Standard Balti House was excellent as always - best restaurant on Brick Lane without a doubt. Chicken chat and the dall soup are great starters with Chicken Tikka Vindaloo as the main course of choice - a little cucumber raita to cool it down. Excellent service and a low price tag too - just over £20 per person inc beers and a couple of desserts. Highly recommended!
This Indian restaurant is a gem. The food is amazing but the service is very mediocre. Do yourself a favour. Relish in the culinary delights and look past the service. Your taste buds will be glad you did.
Booked a table via toptable and which was smooth. The SBH was a recommended choice and I must say the food the brilliant as well as the service. it was quite busy even as one of the largest restaurants on brick lane with a very nice dining atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend anyone to try the Standard Balti House.
Superb meal at Standard Balti House again - it really is the best curry house on Brick Lane. Reliably good every time, excellent service. Highly recommended.
Very good restaurant. We were a group of 7 and all enjoyed our food. The food was delicious and the service very friendly. It was also good value and we will go back. We had decided to try every restaurant on Brick Lane week after week but it looks like we won't bother with the other ones. Try their local specialities on the menu, they are worth the price of admission alone!
Had a £10 5-course at the Standard Balti, Brick Lane. Good, traditional curry.
A little greasy but it didn't pretend to be anything else & it's what I went for! They've got a bar but allow BYO so we grabbed some Kingfishers from one of the many off-licenses. All-in-all a very cheap curry! Staff seemed a little grumpy but they've got loads of annoying Bricklaners to deal with every night so only to be expected!
Reckon I'd probably go back too, perhaps with a larger group.
All ok, good value but was under impression it was BYO which would have been MUCH better value! Does what it says on the tin - Standard Brick Lane Cuisine.
Good value lunch but small quantity and basic. Drinks expensive.
The Standard Balti House in Brick Lane does what it says on the tin so to speak. The offer is great value for money and when you consider that you can bring your own drinks its very much worth it. The starters are good and the mains are your standard brick lane fare - oily and good portions.
A friend and I dined at the Standard Balti House last night... we had an early sitting at 6.30pm so were the first diners. More people arrived later though. Food was good for the deal - poppadoms, starter ( I had 2 meat samosas), main dish (chicken korma), side dish and rice or naan. Plenty of food and very filling... service was good too, not rushed between courses. Yes, we would go back again!
We visted the Standard Baltoi House on Friday night, good friendly service. We bought our wine worked out well on the bill. The onion bhaji's we moist and crispy - how they should. My recommendation from the waiter of king prawns, chilli and garlic was very nice, just a bit oily but thats what you expect from a proper curry house in London. Nice atmosphere and pleny of seating so you are not cramped up.
