Acerca de Simpson's In The Strand

Simpson's In The Strand calificaciones y reseñas
highly recommended as one of Londons classic venues for dining. let me begin by applauding our waiter, Roy. he is a tremendous asset. otherwise, food is very small portion, oversalted and ocerpriced. final insult is automatic 15% service fee on the entire checque, including a French bottle of wine.
singer wad abnoxiously loud and we were grateful for her break.
will never recommend the establishment again
My husband and I joined friends for lunch. We did not know what to expect. We were all very pleased and impressed with everything. Staff were friendly and most courteous also extremely professional.
Food was of a high standard. Looked good tasted better. Only one hiccup a side dish was forgotten, staff most apologetic once it was made known.
All in all would reccomend Simpsons for that special occasion, I couldnt justify cost for a regular visit.
This restaurant has recently had a refurbishment. I have known and loved Simpsons for many years. The refurbishment is sympathetic and the addition of a singer livens up the evening a bit.
Staff are working hard to make you feel welcome and engage you.
The food was well presented and tasty. The wine list is also complementary. The famous roast is still available and when I attended people were choosing this as an experience.
My only comment on the menu would be that it would be nice to have some non - dairy options for the dessert menu. Whilst the dining experience is not cheap I would say it represents a good price/quality point for this part of London. I will return!
Fantastic venue for our mothers special birthday.
Friendly staff, it was nice to have a lovely quiet conversation without having to shout.
Back ground music was a pianist playing lovely quiet tunes.
Our mum absolutely loved being pampered and loved her lamb roast.
Sadly, although the food at Simpson's remains very good, and the service is exceptional, after its recent 'make-over' a number of things have deteriorated. The classic lamb carving trolley no longer carries a full joint, but a roll of lamb, from which the quantity served has diminished while the cost has increased, and although it is advertised on the menu, no mint sauce was provided despite being specifically requested. The wine list is now far less impressive than that which I remember from my many previous visits, with such essentials - such as a good Chablis - completely missing, and there are no half bottles at all, - of any wine whatsoever! This visit was intended as a 'tester' to see whether the renovated Simpson's would be an appropriate place to hold a substantial dinner party to mark a significant event next year: - I'm sorry to say that, following my recent visit I am now reconsidering my choice of venue.
Lovely first time experience at Simpson's for lunch as part of a surprise birthday treat for my husband. His father, hearing we had lunch at Simpson's told us of his happy memory's of dining there while working in London many years previously. The food and service is obviously still top drawer.
We hope to return in the near future and will defiantly be having the beef! Perfect start to a wonderful week-end in London and the stay at The Savoy.
Service was excellent and the food quite good. My guest and I both went for the roast beef from the trolly. The meat was was full of flavour. However, the Yorkshire puddings were cold and tough. The rest of the vegetables were also cold. I would happily sent them back had I felt that my guest from Switzerland would have been embarrassed.
My wife and I meet up with friends from Hong Kong for lunch early October each year at quality London restaurants and Simpsons is now their favourite. They will be recommending to friends back home. We all had the roast beef from the carvery trolley - it was plentiful and truly delicious. The staff were attentive and polite without being over effusive.
A Bucket List place, now crossed off. I'd always been fascinated by the history of The Savoy and in particular the restaurant Simpson's in the Strand, particularly the 'Carving' at the table of roast beef. There's something so old world about this ritual and a friend from Germany and I decided when we got together in London after 20 yrs. of not seeing each other to go to Simpson's in the Strand for a meal. We each had a glass of champagne first, mine the dry, her's the sweeter. The Sommelier was helpful and oh-so-young, somewhere between 20 and 24 he said, for that job. I chose the carved beef, my friend a steak. Both of us were disappointed in the quality of the meat. The beef was rare, which I requested, but at the same time dry, which I think is hard to achieve. The au jus helped but not overly. The roasted potatoes were so hard on the outside it was nearly impossible to cut them in quarters. My friend's steak was so-so, she said. This is the type of food I remember from when I first went to London in the 1970s as a girl. Bland. Dry. Overcooked. London has changed so much and the food is generally good quality and well prepared now, but at Simpson's it's old school. I don't see myself going back to Simpson's, a kind of once event. I did love the ambiance, though. Service was excellent.
FRANKLY THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH ZERO LAMB TO BE SEEN ON THE CARVER TROLLY, AND ABRUPT WINE SERVER, NOW TO MY AMAZEMENT ALTHOUGH VERY NICELY REFURBISHED BOTH IN THE DIVAN AND UPSTAIRS BAR, YET AGAIN THE SERVER WHO WAS IN CONTROL OF THE LAMB CARVER TROLLY LIFTED HIS COVE ONLY TO SEE SCRAPS OF COLD MEAT - I CHANGED TO BEEF, WHICH WAS OK, BUT WHY SHOULD THE CUSTOMER LOOSE FACE WITH HIS GUESTS WHEN HE SINGS THE PRAISES OF SIMPSONS ONLY TO FIND THE SAME PROBLEM REPEATED. LAST TIME THE SAVOY REFUNDED MY FULL BILL, MAYBE THEY SHOULD DO A REPEAT SERVICE. UNSURE IF THIS COMMENT GOES BACK TO THE HOTEL OR JUST INTO 'SPACE'. I SHALL WAIT TO SEE A REACTION, ESPECICALLY WHEN THEY ASK FOR GBP 35 A SERVING... THANKS BUT NO THANKS, I WONT BE GOING BACK ANYTIME SOON. IT'S A PITY AS I WAS TAKEN THERE BY MY GRANDFATHER FROM LASTE 50'S... BRIAN TURNER.
This was our first time at Simpson’s and we were looked after from the moment we stepped through the door. The staff were attentive and the food was excellent with a very good range of dishes. A thoroughly good experience and one we will repeat.
I was at Simpson’s other times, this was the first after refurbishing.
For us, it lost a little of atmosphere, it’s more a normal luxury tradirtional restaurant.
Food is good, but roast beef was better in the past, bigger slices of a bigger piece.
They also forgot to serve us the sauces with beef, quite strange and disappointing.
It will remain a favorite one, but they have to care more not to lose their point of advantage.
The services was perfect, friendly and intelligent waiters, nice to have a chat with them. The restaurant was nicely decorated, the dining room was big and majestic. We ordered two delicious starters (crab salad and garden salad). Afterwards we had roast beef with all the classic accompaniments, good but the gravy could be improved as the flavour was quite simple, I had to add a lot of salt. Excellent wine list.
Fantastic setting, fantastic history. The food is traditional British at the highest level, with just slight modernization. Quality of raw materials and cooking excellent. Excellent, if somewhat traditional, wine list. Excellent, though not large, specialty beer range. Really very little to quibble about, so we're into the small details here: Service was just slightly late/inattentive at certain points, despite numerous staff. Would have wanted a more representative British cheese plate (but the one I got had great cheeses). Prices are somewhat steep, but then, you also pay for the amazing setting. All in all we had a lovely evening with great food and wine. We felt we had experienced the best of British culinary tradition and history, and we'd be happy to recommend to others. We're sure to be back, particularly for the amazing roast beef from the trolley.
The decor was lovely and the roast beef and beef wellington were thoroughly enjoyed. The service provided was great and it was nice that the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, even more so when a mis communication between their offices led to a delay in a special order desert being provided. I would defiantly dine here again when in London.
The restaurant was fine and met expectations except for the rather slow service - huge gap between starters and the main course for some reason.
The real problem was Open Table booked the restaurant for the incorrect time, in spite of confirming the correct time to me with the appropriate confirmation number. They then had the timerity to accuse me of a "no show". Will not be using them again if I can avoid it. Much better to get hold of the restaurant directly. They are impossibloe to get hold of if something does wrong - they merely send automatic replies which is useless to man and beast. I had to sort out their error myself - Simpsons were excellent in responding to the problem Open Table created.
