We were welcomed by a most friendly and attentive waitress (Ana Maria) who was very patient whilst we deliberated. The food was excellent and so was the wine. We enjoyed the attention of the restaurant manager as well. It was a very unusual setting and an intimate atmosphere made it a unique dining experience, as was the bar after the meal. It comes highly recommended particularly if you want something very good but unusual.

This jewel in London's crown must be it's biggest secret! Here is a historic venue which, in its time as a bona fide courthouse, played host to some of rock 'n' roll's royalty including the god that is John Lennon. It remains in decor a courthouse but is now transposed as a centre of cuisine excellence, namely 'Silks restaurant'. We were greeted enthusiastically by Jane and shown to our seats, which just happened to be next to the dock where John himself would have stood. The menus have the appearance of old courthouse papers which adds to the theatre of the room. Our starters, main meals and desserts were all served without cause to wait, the food was fantastic, as was the service and ambience. It was a truly memorable evening for both of us which we will repeat at this fabulous restaurant in the future.

Nice room but you've got to wander through a grubby hotel to get to it. Glacial service for overpriced food. If this was £20 a head I'd be happy, at £50 I'm furious.

Returned to Silk after many years absence because the history of the place is interesting and the food used to be good. When we arrived there was only one waiter who was busy serving tables and no one else to greet us. The restaurant was half empty and the friendly waiter appeared like it was his first day. We sat for quite a while before being offered drinks. Beside a bottle of wine, we opted for the sharing platter. The starters were delicious however not sharing. The mains were semi cold and rather boring. Desserts un-inspiring. A second waiter arrived later but there was still no structure to how they were serving customers. Despite this we were surprised about the price as it was incredible cheap. £55 for a sharing platter and very reasonable priced wine on the menu.

Really enjoyed the whole Silk expeience. The food was fabulous, presented beautifully and tasted delicious.

The service was attentive but not intrusive. Our waitress was enthusiastic and suggested things which would go well with our food....and she was right.

The atmosphere was lovely. I couldn't have wished for a better evening.

We will definitely be going back

Silk is very conveniently located if you are going to a performance at The London Palladium, which is just around the corner, but make it clear to the waiter when you need to leave by. The food is very good and reasonably priced, especially the set meal for two. The location in the old magistrate's court makes for a unique experience.

Our meal was courtesy of a Virgin Experience voucher given to us by our son. The table was booked many weeks in advance, but when we arived at the correct time, the restaurant was fully occupied , ie overbooked. We wre unable to begin our meal until at least an hour afetr we first arrived. The meal itself was merely average at best, not helped by our wine being from a bottle that was clearly 'corked'. All in all, not the 'experience' we had hoped for and a thoroughly disappointing evening.

I'm glad that used a voucher we got from collecting nectar points and didn't spend any real momey!

The courtroom is fantastic but the candle holder was chipped, several small holes in the table cloth highlights the lack of attention to detail.

Food was decidedly average. Having lived in Asia for 10 years our local Thai takeaway does a far better job at a fraction of the cost.

The reasonable service did not make for was a very disappointing experience.

How fantastic to eat in Silk - a former courtroom - for a unique dining experience. The food was scrumptious and the side dishes were incredibly generous in size.

The selling points are the courthouse history and the very helpful staff who are happy to explain the history and it's significance. However the food was average and certainly not worth the price without a taste card. Would not go there again

Nice restaurant in a building that does have a special 'something' to it. We had drinks in the bar (with 3 holding pens open sort of as little alcoves, a remnant from the building's former purpose as a courthouse - lord knows who was held in those things), had a smooth transition (they simple transferred the bill to the restaurant). In the restaurant service was excellent, would not know how to do this better. The food was very good as well, and the dessert was downright excellent. Am writing this review because i noticed the negative reviews, which made me wonder a little. Perhaps we hit a lucky evening, but in any case for us it was great. Would not hesitate to go again.

Visited for a birthday dinner pre theatre so we were slightly rushed which was a shame, but we still had a lovely meal, served beautifully. I had the duck and chap had the rendang both of which were tender and very tasty. The rendang and rice looked pale on the plate so we were glad to have ordered a generous helping of sugar snap peas alongside which were dressed in soy and garlic and very good. Wine was splendid and the wine glasses epic. The wait staff took the time to explain the space and answered all our questionsabout the court room. It was a fascinating place. All in all very pleased

Had the feel of a place only recently opened and feeling its way still. The opentable booking hadn't filtered through to the restaurant - didn't matter as restaurant was very quiet. The use of the court room, and the cells (complete with loo) in the bar, make this an interesting location. The food was well presented and pretty well cooked. My fish verged on being overcooked, but only marginally, and the sauces, accompaniments and presentation were excellent. We made the show in the Palladium just in time.

We dined at Silk through a Groupon voucher for 5 course tasting menu with a glass of bubbly. The food was fantastic & staff were friendly but not intrusive. The only down side was prior to arriving at the restaurant. When I tried to book a table on a Friday or Saturday evenings, the events manager said they were fully booked weeks in advance. So I booked through Toptable and guess what, there were bookings on all the dates I had proposed to the events manager. I informed him of this and he said and I quote - " I have managed to get you a table on Friday 14th March at 8pm" - he did not apologise for his arrogance or the fact that he was treating voucher customers as inferior guests. I have reported this to Groupon. Just be aware of him.

We went for an evening meal here mid-week and it was very quiet, we were the only ones there. The food was good and the waiter friendly. The courthouse decor was fun especially if you go to the bar before dinner and manage to grab one of the old cells to sit in. I think the prices were fair and the food was tasty and well presented. Id return here.

Lovely and very interesting food! I'm glad I had the chance to experience it, but the prices mean I probably wont be able to again. The service was a little unfriendly, but it the unusual surroundings and the range of inventive dishes that you come for so I don't feel this was too much of an issue. I went on a virgin experience day voucher which is the only way this pace seems affordable, but if you can get ourself a deal this is a great place for a really different dining experience, highly recommended for a special occasion.

Nice food. And interesting, don't get me wrong. It just had the feeling of a hotel restaurant (which it is of course, though it need not feel that way). I took a (charming) lady there, and we both left there feeling that the ambiance just wasn't really up to scratch. The chef was splendid, and the service was exemplary, but in many ways a late night curry in a Brick Lane back alley would have been more memorable. But hey, that's just me.

A disappointing experience. Had high hopes as the location and room looked great. However the food was unmemorable, fish overcooked, presentation of main courses was the worst I've seen in a long time. My friend had beef which was served in a small plain glass bowl with a lot of grey looking sauce, a pile of white rice on the side of the plate and that was it. The wrong wine was brought, but changed without issue. Staff friendly but didnt look like their heart was in it. The night we dined, a Thursday so it should have been buzzing, there were only 5 of us in the restaurant. It's a shame and the room is delightful being an old courtroom with a decorative large skylight. Prices are high for what you get. We won't be going back

I took my boyfriend for his birthday last weekend. We had visited before in February 2012 and had loved the food so much, we couldn't wait to go back.

Unfortunately they have changed the menu and in my opinion, not for the better. Whilst the starters were lovely, the mains weren;t great. Mine in particular (the lamb biriyani) was bland and the meat was very dry. I grimaced at the price tag of £85 at the end purely becuase I do not think the food was worth it. Such a shame and I won't be going back.

Tucked away at the back of an unobtrusive Great Marlborough Street hotel, Silk is a restaurant in an old courtroom
The high vaulted ceilings and panelled walls give an air of hushed gentility perfectly suited to the superb cuisine

The food is pricey but not extortionate, the portions generous but not enormous, the flavours are divine but not overwhelming

The tables are all nicely spaced from each other so that you can talk without fear of being overheard or of disturbing your neighbours) and the service is attentive and prompt, but never suffocating

I strongly recommend this as a treat or romantic evening rather than a hurried pre-theatre venue, to take advantage of the beautiful surrounds, wonderful food, and exemplary service

We had a late dinner at Silk, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The service was quite slow but the manager was very efficient, maybe to prompt on us to order more drinks. We had two starters and mains, the scallops were good as well as the chicken in pandan leaf but the mains were just ok, I was very disappointed by the lack of variety in the menu.

Beautiful restaurant and wonderful food. Service attentive and discreet. If I had to make any criticism at all, I'd say the place could do with a bit of music as it was waiting room quiet. But all in all, would definitely recommend this place - and drinks in the hotel bar rounds off a prison themed evening nicely!

Had the pre-theatre menu before going to a show -- good value for delicious food. Since we were there at 6pm on a weekday, for the first half hour we were the only guests at all, which meant service was impeccable. Especially loved that you get a selection of small appetizers and desserts on your plate, so you get to sample a large variety of flavors.

Silk was surprisingly good. I'd normally steer clear of an expensive restaurant attached to a hotel (especially a Hilton) but the idea of eating in a courtroom steeped in history intrigued me.
This is definitely one I'd walk straight past as you can't really tell that there is such a nice restaurant hidden away in there.
I'd read good reviews of the food and mixed reviews of the service. I have to say that both were fantastic. The service was charming and helpful. They even gave us a couple of the beautiful water bottles when we asked if we could buy one.
The list of ingredients on the menu sounds complicated and over fussy. But the food was lovely, each mouthful giving new bursts of each flavour all complementing each other beautif
