We were welcomed by a most friendly and attentive waitress (Ana Maria) who was very patient whilst we deliberated. The food was excellent and so was the wine. We enjoyed the attention of the restaurant manager as well. It was a very unusual setting and an intimate atmosphere made it a unique dining experience, as was the bar after the meal. It comes highly recommended particularly if you want something very good but unusual.
This jewel in London's crown must be it's biggest secret! Here is a historic venue which, in its time as a bona fide courthouse, played host to some of rock 'n' roll's royalty including the god that is John Lennon. It remains in decor a courthouse but is now transposed as a centre of cuisine excellence, namely 'Silks restaurant'. We were greeted enthusiastically by Jane and shown to our seats, which just happened to be next to the dock where John himself would have stood. The menus have the appearance of old courthouse papers which adds to the theatre of the room. Our starters, main meals and desserts were all served without cause to wait, the food was fantastic, as was the service and ambience. It was a truly memorable evening for both of us which we will repeat at this fabulous restaurant in the future.
The food was excellent, as was the wine, and the service was faultless. Highly recommended.
Nice room but you've got to wander through a grubby hotel to get to it. Glacial service for overpriced food. If this was £20 a head I'd be happy, at £50 I'm furious.
what a great Quirky place to eat. an old courthouse.. tucked in the Hotel. what a find. great food, great value and what an atmosphere.. small and intimate. highly recommended.
Returned to Silk after many years absence because the history of the place is interesting and the food used to be good. When we arrived there was only one waiter who was busy serving tables and no one else to greet us. The restaurant was half empty and the friendly waiter appeared like it was his first day. We sat for quite a while before being offered drinks. Beside a bottle of wine, we opted for the sharing platter. The starters were delicious however not sharing. The mains were semi cold and rather boring. Desserts un-inspiring. A second waiter arrived later but there was still no structure to how they were serving customers. Despite this we were surprised about the price as it was incredible cheap. £55 for a sharing platter and very reasonable priced wine on the menu.
Lovely food. We went for the taster selection and followed the waiters suggestions which we were all delicious and very filing! The dining room is lovely. The service good. Food excellent
Really enjoyed the whole Silk expeience. The food was fabulous, presented beautifully and tasted delicious.
The service was attentive but not intrusive. Our waitress was enthusiastic and suggested things which would go well with our food....and she was right.
The atmosphere was lovely. I couldn't have wished for a better evening.
We will definitely be going back
Silk is very conveniently located if you are going to a performance at The London Palladium, which is just around the corner, but make it clear to the waiter when you need to leave by. The food is very good and reasonably priced, especially the set meal for two. The location in the old magistrate's court makes for a unique experience.
Fantastic! Enjoyed it immensely
Myself and three others enjoyed a variety of different meals and they were all outstanding. The staff were also excellent. I would recommend to friends and family.
Our meal was courtesy of a Virgin Experience voucher given to us by our son. The table was booked many weeks in advance, but when we arived at the correct time, the restaurant was fully occupied , ie overbooked. We wre unable to begin our meal until at least an hour afetr we first arrived. The meal itself was merely average at best, not helped by our wine being from a bottle that was clearly 'corked'. All in all, not the 'experience' we had hoped for and a thoroughly disappointing evening.
I'm glad that used a voucher we got from collecting nectar points and didn't spend any real momey!
The courtroom is fantastic but the candle holder was chipped, several small holes in the table cloth highlights the lack of attention to detail.
Food was decidedly average. Having lived in Asia for 10 years our local Thai takeaway does a far better job at a fraction of the cost.
The reasonable service did not make for was a very disappointing experience.
How fantastic to eat in Silk - a former courtroom - for a unique dining experience. The food was scrumptious and the side dishes were incredibly generous in size.
The selling points are the courthouse history and the very helpful staff who are happy to explain the history and it's significance. However the food was average and certainly not worth the price without a taste card. Would not go there again
