Russia House Restaurant - Herndon
Dinner with a touch of class! You can't go wrong. Alex and Homira treat all their customers like family.
It was a very nice atmosphere. The owner and his wife made us feel special. Great decor. Very quite. Very pretty. The food was not to our taste. We got an allergy reaction to something. Loved the experience but would not go back.
Love, love this place. Excellent food and excellent service. Everyone treats you like family.
This was our first visit. Both Ali and his wife who are the owners by the way were very hospitable. Stopped by every table often to make sure everyone was properly taken care of. By husband had roasted rack of lamb and I borscht and smoked Salman. All the dishes were delicious.
Definitely will go back more often.
Great service, amazing food!! Everything was tasty and fresh.
Lovely old world feel
Impeccable attention and service
We’ll be back!
A touch of class sums up the dinning experience at Russia House. The sauces for all dishes are delicious!
Visited on Mother's Day to be highly disappointed. Service was extra slow which we didn't mind except that some of the orders were initially misplaced and we had to remind what we ordered. The foot itself, however, was just not very good, both objectively and relatively to the many great Russian dishes I am used to. Borscht was overcooked; dumplings ("pelmeni") had too much of dough and were just average; stuffed cabbage ("golubtsi") were cloyingly sweet with some extreme acidity, I couldn't finish half of the dish. Overall, very poor value given $40+ per entree that day.
Poor service, very salty stroganoff. Considering the cost of the meal, I would have expected good service and tasty food delivered without endless waiting. We did not even order dessert or coffee because of the lack of prompt service. Even though we ordered a bottle of wine, no one returned to refill glasses at any point. Will not return.
wonderful dinner experience -- shall return for lunch and dinner again soon
The food was extremely good. The meal was awesome. I had the stroganoff over noodles and my wife had the salmon with potato. If you think about stroganoff for $30, it better be good for that price; especially since it is a relatively simple dish. It was that good, and then some.
This is the third or forth time we've been to the restaurant, but our first visit in about 2-years. I forgot how much we always enjoy eating here. Overall, the evening was almost perfect for date night. It's a small family run place, so not sophisticated in the way most places in Reston are. Mom+Pop take care of the tables with just a helper or two. If you are demanding about snappy service or are in a hurry, this might not be the place for you. If you like yummy food and appreciate the quality of a smaller place, I don't think it will disappoint. I liked every part of it.
Delicious Russian recipes with French influences in a lovely dining room accented with art, flowers and white-table cloths. Great for date nights, business dinners, special events or family occasions where fine food and conversation are the goal.
Whether a simple chicken and rice dish or a dramatic table-side Caesar salad, Russia House never fails to impress. The flavors are always evident and on-point, rich but not overly so. The service is impeccable with the owners operating both the front and back of the house. See their website, too, for their wine dinners - amazing experiences for a great price.
Outstanding personalized service
We have a wonderful experience in this restaurant celebrating my husband's birthday - just immediate family. Food was delicious, lots of choices. Service was amazing as well, very personal, makes us feel welcome.
The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. We were having a business meeting and it was quiet, attentive but non intrusive service. Great wine recommendations.
Celebrated 3 birthdays with special friends tonight. Food and service were excellent. We love this place and will definitely go back. Plan to attend a wine pairing dinner soon too.
Fantastic food. Wonderful service. Homera, the chef will talk to you about the food that she is making and it's so fun. They also have house flavored vodka and the butterscotch is amazing!
Wonderfully authentic and delicious Russian dishes. Restaurant recently moved to new location - still in downtown Herndon - with same ownership. It's only 20 tables or so - has the feel that you've been invited to dinner in their parlor.
Great neighborhood restaurant, very good continental cuisine. Service was attentive and we were not hurried. House pinot noir was excellent. In all, a very pleasant evening.
I've been to the Russia House four times, and it's my go-to in Herndon. From large groups to intimate get-togethers with friends and family, it never disappoints. The food is wonderful, well-presented and reasonably priced from a menu that is sufficiently varied to have something for everyone. The staff is knowledgeable without being pretentious, attentive without being smothering, and kind without being obsequious. The ambiance, too, is just lovely. It feels like I've been invited into the nicest room in someone's home as an honored guest: they've laid out their best to create an environment that's serene, dignified, even a tad elegant, but still comfortable and cozy.
The dining experience at Russia House is definitely 5 stars. The food is always excellent (Beef Pelmini for me and Beef Stroganov for my wife) and the service is attentive without being intrusive. We look forward to our next visit.
The Russia House NEVER disappoints! The food is fabulous, and wine and cocktails menu has something for everyone. It’s a great place to get together with friends, as well as special occasions. It’s our “go to” place for our anniversary!
We went to Rusia House on Tuesday, after the Valentine's week. It was quiet. The restaurant is neat, nice tablecloth and decoration.
The service was outstanding, friendly and ready to explain the different meals include in the menu. They have a long list of house drinks, mostly with Vodka as the main ingredient, that worth exploring!
Both our meals were excellent.
We will repeat.
We got overpriced bottle of vine - and usually it is over the store price in restaurants but not so much
We got 10$ bottle of wine for 40$
Seems pretty overpriced
Other then that experience was pleasant and food was good
My wife and I have been going to the Russia House for many years and have always been very pleased with the friendliness of the service and quality of the food. I highly recommend it, as even though it was packed, if did not seem crowded.
Amazing food and service. Warm atmosphere
My filet was delicious, very tender (cut it with a butter knife!) and cooked perfectly. The rest of my food was also quite good, except the Bearnaise was mildly cold. The dessert likely came out of a box with a couple dollops of spray whipped cream. My problem with Russia House was mostly with the service and organization of the restaurant. Clearly family-run, would it be asking too much for the servers to dress up a little? Looks like they were working too hard, could have spent some time on grooming and attire! Also, the menu was a bit dirty and the bar area was a mess. Our table was crowded over in the corner. All of this very much took away from the (mostly) delicious food.
Charming. Personal. Unpretentious. Small. Familial. All this puts you at ease. The food delicious. The music classical. Everything combines in the happiest manner.
The restaurant has a lot of charm and the service was excellent. The food was good but nothing special. The Chicken Kiev tended to be dry and the salmon was okay but not outstanding. My friend and I shared an apple strudel and the crust was just too heavy and it lacked flavor. I doubt that we'll go back which is disappointing because I really liked the place itself and the people were very nice.
After a not-so-great day, we needed something comforting. We couldn't have done better. Right from the start, we were embraced both figuratively and literally. The owners welcomed us like we've never experienced in other restaurants. The service and food exceeded expectations. If you think you don't like Russian food, check out the menu on their website. There is something for everyone. If you like good food and good service, give it a try.
WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM THAT TENDS TO EVERY NEED WOULD BE REASON ENOUGH TO VISIT BUT THE FOOD MAKES IT IMPERATIVE THIS IS OUR GO TO PLACE FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS LIKE OUR ANNIVERSARY CHUCK & TERRI TIMANUS, RESTON
What a lovely, quiet evening at the Russia House on a busy Friday Night in Northern VA. Accommodations; vodka choices; menu suggestions; wine list; service and knowledge all exceeded our expectations. We look forward to dining there again.
Excellent food and wonderful ambience. The owners are very kind and provided extraordinary service. We will be back next time we are nearby.
The Russia House maintains a romantic ambiance, great Russian and French food and a warm welcome by the knowledgeable owners and staff. An outstanding dining experience, perfect for our anniversary dinner.
The restaurant and owners are always terrific. Open table, however, did not send confirmation until today, days later.
Pro: the food is very good.
Con: the cost of the food is very high.
Service: good. However could be better given the high prices.
Good food but pricey. Prices were well above their everyday prices and the portions were very small.
Christmas Eve dinner was a mixed bag. There was a special Christmas menu, which we didn’t care for all that much compared to the regular menu. Our party had vegetarians, and the Christmas menu was lacking. The pasta dish they did have was $45. In fact, all the prices were high - higher even their normally high prices. As for the food, the pasta was not liked, and the duck was horrible. The filet mignon was good, as was the beef stroganoff. The service was OK, if not spectacular. It’s family, not professional wait staff. The chocolate mousse dessert most of us had was average. For us, the food didn’t equal the cost.
My husband & I always enjoy the food, service & atmosphere at The Russia House restaurant. We’ve never been disappointed & we’re self-described foodies. All of their dishes are excellent, the servers are knowledgeable & attentive, and they have an excellent wine list + excellent flavored Vodka shots.
