Turned up on time. Asked if we would like to be seated or get a drink. My reply was 'If it's easier for you we can go straight to the table' I was told we could do either. We made our way to seats set out and were told we couldn't sit there. Then led to a table that needed cleaning. We were given drinks menus then not asked for our order for 20 mins. We were then told our table was ready and led away before our drinks arrived. The table was not ready so we were taken to another table and asked to wait there. I suggested we should go back and wait for our drinks where we were before. Were were given some complimentary sushi at this point. When we finally got to our table we were given the wrong menus. Our glasses were never topped up throughout the meal. Service charge was waived and cocktails on entry not charged for. This was great but I would have preferred to have had a perfect evening to celebrate my son's 18th.
As expected the food was outstanding. Enough to make us go back again - and this wasn't our first meal there either.
I did feel the service this evening was a bit uncouth. Our main was brought even before we finished our starters - at that time I thought it was because they wanted the table back quickly. But then after we finished we had to wait 15 minutes to catch someones eye to get us the check. So there was no rush but we a=had cold mains after they sat at our table while we finished our amazing starters.
Very good service, food was fantastic, tables are private enough with separaters helping With this. Fine dining experience.
Only minor let down, we had been given truffles as part of the experience, 2 chocolates in a box. When collecting the coats they were knocked to the floor. Rather than replace them, the attendant simply put them in the bin and smiled. Only a minor point but this left me a little disappointed as my girlfriend ended up taking mine as a replacement.
If this had been dealt with then it would have been 5 stars, but it's the details that make all the difference.
I would still go again though, great good, great wine
We had the valentines course meals. The food and the service were fantastic as always. The sommelier choose a great wine to be paired with our dessert .The manager and waiting staffs are good looking, smart and friendly.l love this restaurant.
The staffs were attentive and the services were quick. Also the food was nice, especially with open table's deal, it felt like a good deal compared to the price. The main was quite a big portion(I've chosen pork chops) and the meat was very nicely cooked with amazing sauce.
amazing food, and the service was really good. We went for the open table deal so it was very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend. The dessert wasn't something i would order if i'd had the choice but i'm so glad i got it, it was one of the best desserts i've ever had.
My husband and I enjoyed a date night at maze with the 3 courses for 32.50. The 8 sharing starters were the best part, packed full of flavour and great textures and a fantastic price. The sea bream was also full of flavour and the pork chop tender, though they didn't blow us away. If you've got a bigger appetite, I'd definitely suggest getting sides with this. Nice touch with some drama from the refresher after the main, I won't ruin the surprise but it was unexpected and definitely refreshed the senses! I really enjoyed the yuzu ice cream dessert, but it's not for everyone as it's sour. The lychee and raspberry martini is fruity and delicious for those of you that like sweeter drinks, but this is not included in the offer. Really nice atmosphere and our waiter was brilliant, attentive, made some good small talk but wasn't in our faces. Second time at maze and would definitely go back again!
I went on a Friday night to celebrate an anniversary. We had bought an offer online which included 8 tapas to share, a main and desert.
The tapas were good, all mixed food though - I don't really get the theme of the restaurant.
I had fish for main and found it average. Desert also was average.
Restaurant is nice, a bit noisy but we were lucky no to be too close to the next table.
Service was attentive, although sometimes they were interrupting the conversation.
Wine list is ridiculously expensive.
I'm glad I tried but I don't think I'll go back.
Fantastic meal in a relaxed environment. We booked for the open table deal of 8 sharing plates to share, a main each, and dessert each from a fixed menu. The value for money was excellent though it's worth checking the menu in advance as with fixed sharing plates, a choice of 3 mains and a fixed dessert it may not be for fussy eaters. The dessert in particular was amazing ! With the deal, it was very good value for money
Food and wine are very average to be kind. Risotto is not creamy, under salted and just not tasty. The slice white mushroom on top was not seasoned at all. Looks great but tasted underwhelming. The beef belly was dry. Taste is one dimensional and it needs either some fat or mositure. I ate 1/5 and returned the rest. Wine pairing was not enjoyable to me. Will not return.
The food was excellent, honestly one of the best tasting meals I've had. Portions are small as expected from a high end restaurant however with the deal I had for 4 small plates, not an issue at all.
Staff were very attentive and friendly. I went for a friends birthday and they made extra effort with dessert to say happy birthday. Would recommend
We had a Fantastic evening at Maze where we celebrated our anniversary. The chefs menu is a great option for sampling a variety of beautifully creative plates. The flavours were unique and carefully considered. The presentation was simple but elegant. The service was friendly and reasonable considering it was a busy night. My only criticism is that the lighting could be 10% brighter. It was fairly difficult to see what we were eating and drinking.
Start with the good: the food was top class. The telephone help before we arrived as I checked our special menu was excellent, the waiter was pleasant and helpful.
What went wrong? We were made to stand in the bar area for 30 minutes before our table was ready, after having been paraded around the full restaurant first - was a bot Monty Python-esque. We were asked if we wanted the cocktail while we waited which we naturally assumed was the free cocktail with the menu we ordered. It was not: £65 down. 15 minutes after sitting down, 45 minutes after arriving we put our order in. Hurrah!
We left our coats with a confused looking wardrobe attendant. She lost 3 out of 4. There was about 10-15 people all waiting for coats. As she could not locate ours she served the other 10 people and refused to let us help her look. We were standing in the freezing cold by the front door. Finally after about 20 minutes we went in and got our own.
How can front of house part of the offering be so bad it was almost funny?? Thanks to the chef for the amazing food and our waiter who felt sorry for us and did not charge us the extra cocktails.
The range and taste of the whole meal was wonderful. Bite size starters, full of flavour, followed by perfectly cooked fish and risotto. A nice, light, refreshing desert followed, so perfect all round. The drinks aren't cheap but it's part of the experience. Would I go again? Hell yes.
The signature menu is quite nice and if you don't eat lamb or pork, you could also ask for beef instead. The beef main course is really worth trying. And so is the starter of beef. Desserts are lovely. Price is acceptable. Great experience.
Meet up with some friend who I haven't seen for ages. Lovely bar area and decor. Booked for the book a table offer of £32 for 8 plate sharing starter, main and dessert. Booked our table for 8pm. Got to the restaurant at 7.30pm but our table was not ready yet which is understandable as I had booked it for 8pm. However our table wasn't even ready till 8.40pm. We had to keep asking when we could go to our table (as one of us was pregnant and starving) and we were told each time that it would be soon😬. No major apology or free drink or anything. Finally got to the table and was told that since we were a group of 3 we had to share two mains and couldn't have a 3rd main unless we paid extra. Would have minded paying extra but it was the whole principle of the matter that I have booked onto that offer and the offer clearly stated that there was a main each. The waiter then had to check with the manager and told me that hey could make an exception this time.....! I was annoyed as I was made to feel that I was almost begging for food at a place that I thought would be more sensible to the customer.
Anyway not sure I would be able to go there again. Very disappointed which is a shame as it's in a great location and would have happily gone there regularly to even have drinks with friends.
Watch out for the bookatable offer mayhem!!
Booked for a family get together (6) for my youngest son's 20th. I fell for an Open Table email - a special deal - offering 8 small plates to share, main and desert. Bit disappointing that the restaurant presented the party with ordinary menus, had to be reminded of deal and then again that I had specified, at time of booking, 1 vegetarian and 2 wheat free. They did eventually cope with this - but the result felt a bit piecemeal and ad hoc. I felt they had had plenty of warning of our requirements and if they couldn't do this menu to suit they should have warned us in advance. I was also a bit disappointed that the main courses had to be ordered for 2 to share. Should I have known this? Which caused chaos (we had to swap places to do this as not much room on table) and then something different and unexpected arrived for the vegetarian without explanation that the mushroom risotto ordered was not suitable for him. All a bit disordered. If I go again I won't bother with a special deal - it was just the idea of shared starters appealed and I expected this standard of restaurant to be able to adapt to fairly common requests. Was also a cold night out and we were placed at a drafty table! Would go again, but I felt the special deal made us second class citizens.
Maze was an outstanding experience. The food is both delicious and creative. What I loved is you can get a wonderful wine by the glass and small plates of food...so it is possible to order just the quantity you want. The recommendation of the restaurant is to share everything which is nice too, giving each person the chance to taste more things. I would do one thing differently from what was suggested however. My husband and I ordered 4 small plates to begin. All of them were cold, so it didn't matter that they came at once. But then we ordered 3 larger hot dishes and they also all came at once. I would have preferred then one at a time so we could have eaten everything when it was hot. The lamb chops are fabulous, the duck breast and leg amazingly good, and the pork chop also delicious. I'd like to return and try some of the other things. Warning - this place is very, very expensive.
