Always worth the trip from DC to Great Falls Virginia to dine at L' Auberge Chez Francois Brasserie. The drive once off Route 7 is gorgeous and the Autumn colors make it even more spectacular. Started out with two very dry Grey Goose martinis and appetizer of salmon prepared three different ways. I had the green salad that was crisp, fresh and lightly dressed. She had the duck for an entrée and I had a most superb cassoulet. Bread provided throughout the meal was fresh and old-world style. Bottle of Saint Emillion red wine during the meal. She had espresso and I a black cup of fresh coffee. Magnificent meal and service. Already planning our next reservation!
Service is outstanding, food excellent, and just a great place to spend quality time with friends, family, or a special someone.
Warm and cosy ambiance inside the restaurant. Reasonable wine list. Great bread basket. We enjoyed everything that we ordered: mussels to start, Bouillabaisse, crab cake with excellent pomme frites, and a hazelnut souffle.
The cuisine was old school and not memorable old school. The server forgot to order the sole I ordered which was quickly rectified. However, the server was all too intrusive which diminished the experience. Perhaps due to the limited selection of restaurants in the GF area the reviews are as glowing as they are. I live 1 mile from there yet I'd rather drive into DC then return.
Jacques is one of our “go to” places for a reason: authentic Country French food served by attentive and professional staff. In warm weather the patio is wonderful and the fire pit burns in the cooler times out there. Jacque has a beautiful vegetable garden that compliments other fresh ingredients. Best gluten free menu as well.
Lunch or dinner, this is a great cozy place.
Always fabulous and makes everyone feel special
second year in a row taking wife for her birthday. both years somehow they knew and brought out a desert with a candle in it. Everyone working there is wonderful as is the food.
Best burgers EVER! Best soufflé ever!! Love the ambiance and the service! Will be back soon!
This was our first visit to the new (to us) Brasserie that has been added below L'Auberge Chez Francois. It was my wife's birthday and, while we have been to Chez Francois on a few occasions, including my birthday some years ago, we decided to opt for the new and reportedly less expensive Jacques Brasserie. The food was excellent, just as we had expected, and the service was wonderful. It was a bit more noisy with the hard surfaces, but I expected that from the reviews and photos. I'm not convinced it was any less expensive, however, unless the main dining room prices have risen markedly since our last visit. It's also possible our tastes have graduated to more expensive dishes and wines. The final "l'addition" seemed comparable our dinners in the linen tablecloth main dining area. We will definitely come back for the food and service. I am happy to pay for an experience that I cannot recreate at home, which is not true for most mid-tier restaurant experiences.
Something seems to be not right in the kitchen anymore at this place; we dined upstairs a few months ago and felt similarly. My salad was wilted with bland dressing, the lemon sole was mealy, and my husband's Roquefort tart was quite small with an unremarkable (from frozen?) crust and garnished strangely with a few grapes and a random raspberry set on top. Baked Alaska was underwhelming. The ambience and service is excellent but honestly the food has been mediocre twice now. It's a shame because it's such a special location. I hope someday the food will improve so it will be worth the drive and splurge.
It’s is always a lovely experience!
What can I say about the Brasserie.
You get a warm feeling walking in.
Just a great place.
Went for the first time for our anniversary to relive a France trip after reading so many good recommendations for so long. One of those rare instances of living up to expectations. Food was wonderful and authentic (cassoulet, lobster thermidor, cheese plate, beef tenderloin plus bread was fantastic). Service was attentive but not overboard. The atmosphere is delightful and makes you feel like you really could be in France. The only smallest of small downsides...we noted our anniversary and our first time on the reservation and no recognition. But we were too full and satisfied for dessert so not a big deal.
It is always a pleasure to dine at the Brasserie! Wonderful food! Great service!
Absolutely amazing meal with top-notch service. We will definitely be back
Great as always 😊
My lunch was excellent as always and the service was exemplary. I really enjoy their garlic bread and other complimentary goodies. Lovely drive out to Great Falls as well. I look forward to visiting again.
Outstanding food and service! Wine per glass was pricey!
As always, our decision to go was perfect as we sat outside with the sun on us and we were finished before the chill set in. I had the boulabaiise , great for cool evening. Taste has depth. Our favorite place to dine even if it is a drive
If you choose to go a little more casual and not as many courses as the upstairs option - you will not be disappointed! The food is coming out of the same kitchen and just delicious. I can never dine here without having the lobster salad. The vanilla bean dressing is what makes it stand out above all others. Although one can fill up on the garlic bread and complimentary signature herb cottage cheese-like spread, at some visit you have to try the mushroom, shallot pizza. It is literally a "sink your teeth into" savory delight. The entree's are delicious and similar to what your entree would be upstairs. The place has a real buzz to it - and if you want quiet and peaceful, sit outside or at the fire pit. I would highly recommend, which is difficult for me because I want it to stay our neighborhood gem!!
Fabulous- as always
LOVE! This is a little piece of French heaven. It's a smaller version of L'Auberge Chez Francois. It is comfort and you won't want to leave. If it's your first time, it won't be your last. Whether you go book upstairs or downstairs you will always go back. Dany is amazing and always makes sure you are comfortable. We first met him when he was a server and now he is like a friend. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Must haves - the roquefort tart (YUM), any soup he has but my favorites are the lentil soup and my other favorite is the split pea. I could have them all the time. Pure comfort. You would be shocked to know that they have the amazing hamburgers. My husband just had one last night. They are cheesy with bacon and really juicy. The souffles' are amazing. We always get the raspberry. Last night I got the pumpkin dessert that was really good. I love pumpkin. I love this place!
We recently went here for our anniversary dinner. The waitstaff is so friendly, knowledgable, and professional. The food is authentic - from the cheese selections at the start of the meal to the amazing chocolate souffle (order this ahead!) for dessert. The setting is gorgeous and charming. I can't wait to go back soon.
Always top notch service and food. Favorite restaurant !
Excellent food, service and value. Unusually noisy last Friday, but overall outstanding anyway.
Totally overrated, food was barely average
Fabulous food and ambiance, we are here often and enjoy every minute of our experience! However , one main concern that has been developing from our past visits and the most important in my view - THE BAR , the cocktails are in need of attention , last night I ordered an old fashion and it was awful , Makers Mark with cherry juice and a cherry with crushed ice , come on you can do better ! My wife had a Cosmo and it was weak and watery. I have a solution to my distress ( I make a lot of money solving problems ) stop the waiters from making cocktails! Or make them upstairs. When its busy , hire real bartenders. Problem solved ! Can’t wait until my next visit!
Excellent! Have been here a couple times now and the food and service is always excellent!
Wonderful food, drinks, dessert, and garlic bread! Recommend 100/10!
Always good food! Very good food! Highly recommend the Brasserie and in not too hot weather it's just beautiful sitting outside!
Absolutely wonderful!! Fantastic service, delicious food, wide variety of selections. Really enjoyed the outdoor patio dining alternative. Over the years, I have always enjoyed the Chez Francois experience and look forward to returning again.
I have for years believed that this restaurant was overrated and overpriced. Our last visit confirmed my view. The food is just average. Service. however, was excellent.
I love the authentic Alsace menu. You are not rushed and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
Chez Francois never disappoints for outstanding food and service. We met at Jacques Cafe with 2 other couples for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon and chose to dine outdoors. There were a few other diners there when we sat down, but they all left soon after, and we enjoyed a very leisurely, private meal with fantastic service and food! The three ladies chose the Salmon w/Bearnaise; the gentlemen each had different entrees -- sauteed trout, veal scaloppine with Virginia ham and mussels in wine sauce. All were, of course, expertly prepared and presented; we all cleaned our plates! The bread basket was kept overflowing with both the rolls and garlic bread.
I was overjoyed to hear they were serving my favorite plum tart for dessert and my husband had a piece of hazelnut cake. Other couples each shared their choice of a chocolate tart and cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Again, not a morsel was left! Additionally, our server asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We said we were just celebrating "our friendship". She not only surprised us with an additional dessert of chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and a candle on top but we were not charged for any of our desserts!
The six of us spent a number of years enjoying a Christmas dinner in the more formal dining room of Chez Francois but had not been there for a good while. I can't think of a more special place for a casual get together like we enjoyed on this particular afternoon or to celebrate a special event in the more formal dining room. Looking forward to returning soon!
Just me and my wife I had the crab cake and she the soft crabs. Fabulous
Amazing “Hand Picked” Bloody Mary with the freshest ingredients. Jacque’s Tarte Benedicts are amazing, I had the mushroom tarte and it was absolutely perfect. The eggs were perfectly poached and the mushrooms were beyond delectable. Definitely coming back for another brunch date.
LOVE is what I have to say about this little piece of heaven. Comfy, cozy and welcoming. You won't want to leave. So many things to try. I look forward to every meal I have at Jacques. You must try the roquefort tart. You must try the soups. My favorite is the split pea and I also love the lentil. The omelets are amazing! On this visit my table shared a beautifully bold white Burgundy wine after our cocktails. I as usual got my roquefort tart, my husband got the onion soup and my sister got the bacon tart. I got the peppercorn steak which was the special. My husband got the filet tips that were so tender and seasoned perfectly. My sister got the seafood pasta which she said was amazing! It had lobster sauce and saffron as the base. Desserts are always beautiful. I got the raspberry souffle' and my sister got the chocolate tart. The service is the best! Dany is by far the most helpful person. I always look forward to seeing him and he gives the most excellent suggestions.
Wonderful casual take on our favorite special restaurant in the Washington area, Chez Francois l'Auberge. Nice to sit outside in good weather.
Really smart to open the Brasserie as it gives patrons the option to eat some of Francois food but in a more casual atmosphere. Make sure to show up early if you want to be seated outside
