This was my daughter's 21st birthday and they crammed 9 of us at a few tables that were meant for a party of 6. They tried to bring smaller chairs to fix the uncomfortable seating but it didn't make the occasion very enjoyable. They were very busy that night and obviously didn't plan a proper and comfortable seating arrangement ahead of time when our reservation was made. Needless to say I was very disappointed. Will not return
Delicious food (although I hear they are not really vegan and are using animals to farm their lands and then sending the animals to slaughter houses). I will be looking into that before I decide to go back. It's a SCENE. You MUST have a reservation or you'll wait over an hour.
I went here for brunch and had a great experience. The food is really good and very filling. We were also able to make a reservation without any ussues, which is hard to do in Los Angeles. Service was good and the ambiance is really nice.
We are vegan and love Mexican so it was exciting to find a place that is both. We went for brunch and sat on the patio. The inside and patio are really nice, although we found the two-tops outside to be a bit close together. Everyone around us ending up talking to the tables around them because you can't help eavesdropping—so not too private. The all-agave drinks menu was great and we had several excellent cocktails. The food was good (although I can't say great). It was a bit over-hyped by our otherwise excellent server. I've made as good at home, although I admire the creativity and authenticity of the menu. Overall, a really nice place with good service and drinks with good, but not amazing food. I'd still go back but try some different items.
I chose their chef tasting menu and the food was amazing!! And there was a lot of food!! My sister did the same thing so we basically had one of everything. It was sooo good. She even commented that she didn't know it was vegan. The food is uniquely different but still tastes Mexican. I will definitely go back!
We've eaten here several times. This is our first time since we became vegan. Strangely, I never considered it as a vegan restaurant. Great food, great atmosphere. Great vegan places are somewhat rare. Not just great vegan but great food period. The service could be better. Our waiter Danny disappeared for long periods, but was very friendly when ever we did see him. At one point he asked if he could answer any questions and my friend joked "yes, where have you been for the past 20 minutes?" Danny laughed and thanked us for our great energy and then disappeared again. Ha. I would still recommend this place.
Being vegan for three years, i have been to many vegan spots in LA & This was my first time attenting Gracias Madres as a vegan. I decided to make a reservation on valentines day and end up getting a time slot later in the day since the earlier ones was booked up. This time frame was 10pm and the place closes at 11pm. Just as expected the place was jam packed. I had no idea what i was getting myself into from the outside because it looked nothing like the beautiful inside. We was very impressed! We decided to sit on the patio since it looked a bit more romantic. They had heat lamps, candles, bartenders and great couches. This spot was a sister of cafe gratitude & the selection of food was plentiful! The prices are high so be prepared to break the bank! The waiter was not very enthusiastic and seemed like he wanted to go home more than serve us. Overall itsa great vegan date spot
Gracias Madre is not a great restaurant. I'm sorry but people are too easy on the taste of food in Los Angeles. I've lived here for 10 years and I am repeatedly unimpressed by 4 and 5 star restaurants, outside of your authentic Asian and Mexican fare. This was my 2nd time dining here and I won't be back. The one item that really stood out on my first visit was a vegan rendition of Mexican street fare corn --- an item that has been removed from the menu. Oh, is it "seasonal"? Yeah, that's not a thing, sorry it's 2017. Also, I don't care what anyone in the kitchen has to say about the quality of the ingredients or where the chef went to school; the food itself is simply lacking flavor, distinction and love, and half of it came out lukewarm. The price tag, I might add, is pretty out of control considering the blandness of the food. We had the "super popular cauliflower" which is 1,000 times better at Veggie Grill for half the price, and some other slop I don't even remember. Then we made the mistake of ordering dessert, which, well trust me just don't bother...
The best thing I can say is the patio is one of the best in LA, but that should not be the best thing a customer says about your restaurant. If you're I don't know, 20-25 years old and have an easily impressed vegan date (which is extremely rare) who will be taken by a nice patio, sure, take them here. Otherwise, go to Sage, Crossroads Kitchen or even Veggie Grill over Gracias Madre. I clearly wanted to like it --- I picked it for Valentine's Day, and I had been there before --- but sadly, it did not deliver beyond being "passable".
The service was terrible we sat there for 20 mins before we got a drink, our server walked past us with no eye contact, management should of been aware that he was too busy and sent over another sever - I took matters into my own hands and asked another server to serve us, she was pleasant and had a great attitude and was awesome.. i love it there, so will be going back but was just a little disappointed with how they were running a busy night .
I meet my girlfriend for lunch at Gracias Madras and it did not disappoint. The menu is creative with tons of options. We split the the appetizer cauliflower, chips and guacamole, sweet potato quesadilla and a faux crab cake thing, that didn't last like crab cake but was amazing. I loved the unique sauces and spices. There must be a ton of prep work in the kitchen to put togethers such amazing dishes. I'm a cheese lover but it was not missed.
This place was packed and so, so loud. My wife and I couldn't hold a conversation across a two person table. Food was excellent and the service was great. I wouldn't recommend taking a first date there, but if you're willing to eat alone, or without conversation, I recommend it.
My daughter and I were celebrating her birthday. I had called ahead for a birthday dessert. Our special margarita, Purista, was delicious. We loved the guacamole and the creative entrees. I had the special - two soft empanadas filled with yams with veggies on the side. My daughter had great tacos. The waiter brought a warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and a candle for dessert. Very good second experience. We'll be back for another special dinner.
Lovely spot for lunch! The taquitos with sweet potato filling had a nice texture and flavor. The plantain french toast was perfect for me, especially since I have a sweet tooth. It had the right amount of sweetness and was very delicious.
Great space and atmosphere and beautiful patio. Loved the Margaritas and the chips and guacamole. The entrees - not so much. Not awful, just not very good. I'm not a vegan but my daughter is, so I eat at a fair number of vegan restaurants. Try Araya's Thai and Erven for truly excellent vegan fare. GM just seems to be trying too hard to duplicate textures and flavors of meat and cheese. It never works. Skip the nasty cashew cheese (yucch) and mystery "meat" fillings. They even managed to make a "Caesar" salad kind of nasty. Head scratcher. They should simplify and focus on great, uncomplicated Mexican fare. Let the ingredients sing with the freshest possible produce, grains, beans, etc. with yummy salsas, pico de gallo and light sauces, and they'd have a winner.
My friend and I were enjoying our delicious food like very chilled and relax... and the waiter (Hector) was kind of annoying coming every minute to rush us to order more... we were drinking wine and eating food at our own pace, but he ruin that flow with his interruptions.. that weren't intend to serve us better but to make us leave.
The restaurant was anything but full... we don't get what was his rush if we were ordering wine, food and even desert.
Besides that, everything was incredible and we Looove this restaurant !
