Good vegan restaurant that seems to still be "finding" itself. Noise level is on the high side and even though the restaurant knew this was a birthday dinner celebration, the restaurant did not acknowledge that (I mean, really....how much does it cost to buy candles?)
I was excited to try this new (ish) Matthew Kenney restaurant but have to say I was disappointed with 2 of the 4 dishes we ordered. The fried artichokes and roasted carrots were both bland and uninspied. The other two - a smoked hummus and fava bean & green pea felafel - were great however. Service was really good and the place has a nice feel to it. I’d give it another try at some point.
Yummy food and great, cozy atmosphere
Excellent food!!! Would go again. Wish room was more bright and cheerful like his previous restiarant but will return because food is great!
Wonderful food and lovely waiter - diners would really benefit from a better wine list. Wines by the glass are bad or very bad.
Exceptional experience! We can’t wait to come back ! Food, service and atmosphere- FABULOUS!
We ordered everything on the menu besides four dishes. Everything was delicious. Unreal. Will be back very soon again and again. Thank you!!
The food had interesting enough flavors, but really the portions were tiny and it made the food appear way too precious. It's a lot less fun to eat in restaurants where the food feels like it's too precious.
We were in town for business and met up with friends. Thoroughly enjoyes oir evening. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. The waiter was very attentive as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return the next time I’m in Manhattan.
I have to say this was a disappointment. He food was average at best and pricey for what we got. I eat vegan frequently and this food was somewhat flavorless.
Excellent vegan options! Everything is vegan so we had the vanishingly rare experience of ordering freely from the menu. Lovely, summer camp vibe. Great service. Nice, open view of the kitchen as you walk to the back. reviews have a minimum number of words and I'm short a few. So there.
The food was exceptional. I will be eating there frequently.
Really enjoyed! Great food, great service, great atmosphere 🍷
The food was incredible! Crostinis were overpriced- two pieces for $10. But flavors, presentation, and creativity were A+ across the board.
Loved it! FANTASTIC new addition to the NYC vegan dining scene.
Everything was wonderful - great wine, delicious plant based food, great service, great atmosphere - great, great, great! We loved the beet hummus with radishes, mushrooms with kale polenta, dukkah avocado with greens, Za'atar roasted carrots - all fabulous!
Xyst is another great restaurant by vegan chef Matthew Kenney. Whether you're a vegan or not, you'll love the food (try the smoked hummus!) and will have a nice time in the relaxed atmosphere. The service is excellent. I highly recommend going to Xyst with friends, on a date or special occasion.
Recently switched to plant based lifestyle and this place was a very pleasant addition to the repertoire (easily top 3 contender for my wife and I). Would recommend to non-vegan friends as well.
Food came out cold. Not a huge deal as they were apps but the pita with the hummus had clearly been toasted quite a bit earlier and the carrots would have been better fresh out of the oven.
Absolutely love it here! Been 3 times and twice with parties of 8 or more. Request the back room by the fireplace if it's a cold night!
I was so impressed. The food was incredible, the service was excellent. The portions were a bit smaller than i anticipated but i didn’t feel that it was rabbit food. Everything had a great flavor profile. The blood orange cheese cake was unbelievable!
Food was AMAZING. Especially the beet hummus. We went in on a Friday night and it was impossibly booked. Went on a Sunday and it was just right. Enough people to feel full and cozy but still able to talk. Matthew Kenney restaurants never disappoint. We liked it better than Double Zero in the EV because of the pretty, intimate wood tables and it has a beautiful covered patio in the back. Amazing plant based food that will impress any vegans and non-vegans alike!
Creative plant-based cuisine. These are intricate, flavorful dishes. And the portions were more than adequate. I left stuffed. The squash and zaatar carrots were superb.
Beautifully presented, flavorful food. I thought the recipes were very creative. Very attentive server. Enjoyed the ambience. We will come back again!
What a wonderful dining experience. Such creative vegan dishes. I wanted to try everything on the menu! Everything we did have was delicious - especially the cashew cheese and the falafel. The desserts were outstanding too.
As a vegetarian, I was really excited to try this place. But, the service was mixed, as there were multiple people serving us and most didn't seem too happy to be there, but one exceptionally friendly waitress made it a better experience. The cheese crostini was amazing, the za'atar carrots were okay, the smoked hummus was addicting, and the cauliflower was decent, but partially under-roasted. The ambiance is really cozy and cute.
Amazing food. Nice setting. Was a bit loud when crowded where it was hard to hear the person across from you, but the food is worth it. Great service. Amazing chocolate cake!!
We loved XYST- it is new so it wasn't too crowded and every dish we had was excellently crafted. Some of the most unique vegan food I've ever eaten. Highlights were the iron cast socca, lentil squash, falafel, and the chocolate cake. I don't know how they made a vegan, gluten free chocolate cake that delicious but its a must-try.
I am always encouraged when I find a restaurant that can offer gluten free
options with creativity. This restaurant did just that. At some point I would love
to see more salads on the menu but meantime the fried artichoke and
the avocado dishes were amazing!
Matthew Kenney is pure genius with flavors and to have that with with vegan food ups the challenge. Staff went out of the way to worrie about nut allergy. Inventive cocktails and mocktails be back to try more blood Orange cheese cake was insanely good.
Dining at XYST was the highlight of our trip to NYC. The food was amazing and the ambiance was fantastic. Even if you don't follow a plant-based diet, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend!!
Delicious, vegan/vegetarian, warm and friendly. I’ll go back next time I’m in nyc.
The food is bursting with flavors. My favorite is the cast iron soca and the cashew haloumi.
Great place for natural, plant-based Mediterranean food. The portions are adequate and the food is delicious. If they have them on the menu, please indulge yourself with the mushrooms and the carrots. We'll definitely be visiting XYST back very soon!
Excellent food! I’m not a vegan, but this food was amazing!
My new fav vegan restaurant in the city. Literally live ever single dish in the menu
Food is extremely tasty and for non-vegans you don’t miss the animal protein at all. Ambience is cozy, great for conversations even on a Friday night. We had a great time only pity was that we over ordered and did not touch 2 entrees, which we asked to take away, but server said that kitchen threw it away, what a shame...
Holy moly that was good! Highlights were the truffle cheese, beet manti and fava falafel, but everything was wonderful. It's amazing plants can be used this way and be so satiating in such a lovely environment. A real gem!
Wow! I was so lucky to find Xyst. This is probably my favorite fancy vegan spot. Everything was fresh, the veggies were celebrated and elevated to holy. I'm so impressed. It was delicious.
The restaurant is a cute concept, and the dishes are okay. However the restaurant was extremely cold, we moved from a table in the very back room to a table in the main area and we were still very cold, wearing jackets during drink.... even after a bottle of wine. Unless the menu changes a bit I am not likely going to revisit during the warmer months.
