True Food Kitchen - Arlington, Ballston Quarter
Stevie, out waitress, was spectacular. So friendly, spot-on recommendations, anticipated our needs, very professional while engaging. She 'read the table' perfectly. Stevie truly raised the bar on our service expectations!
Thank you for a wonderful meal, and terrific service!
CON: The noise level was not "energetic". It was distracting, very very loud.
Also, very cold! We're dressed for the heat wave, not for winter. We shouldn't need a sweater to dine indoors.
Service was very slow - almost an hour to receive food, which was luke warm. To their credit, they discounted the meal. This was our second visit. The first was better. The food can be quite good, and it's good to see a restaurant offering more healthy fare and plenty of vegetarian options.
Very good food and great service. The inside out quinoa burger is reallyyyy good even though I’m a big meat eater but I choose to get that at TFK. Had the edamame dumplings which were DELICIOUS! Can’t wait to go back to try more things!
We went to the newly opened True Food Kitchen in Arlington, Va for brunch. Looking at the menu, it appeared to have lots of clean meals but with high calorie intake. Maybe the use of oils and butter?
I felt the portions were small for the cost of the meal. I had a garden scramble that looked and tasted amazing, but I wasn’t thrilled because it cost so much. Much better value for same type of meal at Ted Bulletins next door.
Our server was adequate. She wasn’t enthusiastic about our first visit and always pointed to the higher priced items on the menu as opposed to telling us what she thought. Overpriced and little taste was my overall impression.
Probably will not return with my family.
Server was extremely rude, and didn’t take our order properly nor offer water or any beverage.
Tasty food but overall disappointing. Entrees arrived before appetizers. Manager blamed being busy and apologized but place was on downswing when we arrived. Offer to comp appetizers but we didn’t want them once entrees arrived and half eaten by time manager arrived. Service continued poor and distracted even when place quieted down. Decided to order dessert and cappuccino and tea. Neither server nor manager offered to comp either - we didn’t ask but manager missed opportunity to correct prior big fail on appetizers. Coffee and tea took forever and came separately. Coffee had cooled by time arrived. Manager and server blew it in my view. We will give place one more chance as food was tasty and fresh.
Blend was a great server. Food was very fresh and service was superb
The food was delicious and our reservation for 8 people was handled with ease. Even better than all of that was our server, Stevie. She has the best vibe - "shiny" without being too much, knowledgeable without feeling the need to read the menu to you, and funny in the very best, warm and "real" way. We LOVED her!
Great food. Extremely expensive cocktails.
My new favorite restaurant in Arlington! Such a great menu. Music was a little loud to carry on a conversation.
Delicious food, colorful and fresh. Our waiter was great. We had cocktails that were yummy. Will definitely go back!
I've been to the True Food in both Arlington and Bethesda and love them both. They serve a basic Americana menu, but the quality of ingredients is super healthy and delicious. Service is also excellent. Only thing I would fault it for is the noise level, which can be high. Wish they had a location in Washington, DC proper!
Our first experience at TFK was much better as we were seated at a banquette, had prompt service and the food was excellent. This time we were seated at a 2 top by the window with hard metal chairs right in a main traffic lane. When they went to seat us there, we asked for one of the open banquette seats, but were told they was no available as they were needed for larger parties, even though we had a reservation. Within 10 minutes both of the options we had referenced were seated with 2 people. While our drinks and appetizer came reasonably timely, we were informed at about the time our food should have arrived that they had made a mistake ( not sure if it was the server or the kitchen or both ) and that they were just beginning to cook our meal. It took at least another 20 minutes before our food arrived. While the server tried to make up for the mistake by comping our appetizer and the food overall was good, we had a much less than enjoyable meal overall.
Would have been nice to get the sparkling water I ordered, and waitress repeated back to me, but that was a minor annoyance in an otherwise good meal.
Food and service were excellent. The fish tacos were awesome. My husband had the lasagna and loved it. Great new addition to the area.
Thank you for dining at True Food! We hope to have you back in soon!
Love the place! Food is inventive and amazingly good, with fresh ingredients and just lovely! Our main server was amazing as well - gave right on target recommendations, with lots of context, and hilarious but not overbearing. Obviously loves her job and great at it! Other servers were also very pleasant and helpful. Such a fun dining experience!
Thank you for dining at True Food! We will pass along your wonderful review to Stevie!
Even though it was super busy, the hostesses were attentive and welcoming upon arrival. I believe she was the lead hostess (the one with the short cut) was super helpful and when i wanted the bar she went the extra step and found some seats for me and brought over menus. Other places would have just pointed to the bar. I’m definitely gonna come back!
Thank you for dining at True Food! We will pass along your review to Asia! :)
Patio music was very and unnecessarily loud. Servers were discombobulated. Nice manager. Good food.
So excited to have found this gem. The menu is eclectic upon first glance but has something for everyone. And the food is GOOD. Highly recommend the sangria and the lemon ricotta lasagna. Service is a little slower but they're brand new and it was packed, so I think that's to be expected. This is a family friendly restaurant - energy was buzzing all night.
Once again, amazing food and love the charred cauliflower! Loved the outdoor patio!
Thank you for dining at True Food!
We were on the patio and it was absolutely a stunning night. We had fish tacos, panang curry, good earth cobb salad and the always incredible edamame dumplings. Food and the staff were great. It's one of our favorite restaurants!
Thank you for dining at True Food! thank you for taking the time to review us, we hope to have you back in soon!
We had requested a quiet spot for our hearing impaired guests and we also had a reservation. A table outside was available but given to a group with no reservations. The hostess was not interested in improving our experience but your waitstaff was wonderful in working with what they had to offer. I love True Foods but the meals overall were disappointing and not as good as I usually enjoy in Fairfax, Naples or Scottsdale. I’m assuming it has to do with the settling in factor of a new restaurant.
Love love love true food!!!
Thank you for dining at True Food! We love that you love us! Come back soon.
Great service. Very good cocktails, pizza ok but not outstanding. Not too noisy at 6 pm. Similar to other True Foods Kitchen restaurants.
Thank you for dining at True Food!
The food at True Food is always good and the vegan options are great!
I met two friends here for lunch. Made reservations and I arrived a little early and was seated immediately even though the restaurant was busy. The server immediately came over and asked for my drink order. I explained I was waiting for two more people to arrive and she said "no problem", came back quickly with my drink and said she would watch out for my friends and return again then, which she did. Food was fantastic! Our choices included Good Earth Kale Cobb salad, Ancient Grains Bowl with Tofu and Cauliflower Polenta with Shrimp. Generous servings which looked as good as they tasted. We lingered a long time after our meal talking and were not hurried along by anyone to leave. A wonderful experience all around.
Very good and healthy food. The cauliflower polenta was excellent. There were definitely some growing pains since the restaurant is still a bit new and there was some confusion about who should seat me when I got there and the server was confused about which substitutions were allowable (a friend wanted to hold the cheese on her dish since she is vegan), but overall it was a good experience.
Thank you for dining at True Food!
Amazing service!! Delicious food - thank you Stevie!
Service was mediocre as was the main entre.
Good food. Good service. Lots of vegetarian options. Very noisy, however.
We had wonderful meals, food was well prepared and delicious, good service. Only issue was the noise, very noisy and a drip from the ceiling from an AC vent which we told 3 people about.
Overall one of my favorite places.
Our food was really not good - of the four people at the meal, three of us had food that was REALLY not good. I got the TLT, that had maybe 3 strips of tempeh and was very very dry (it tasted burnt). A friend ordered the turkey burger that was supposed to have avocado, and there was a very thin layer of avacado spread on it, and it was burned. She also got ill after the meal. Another person ordered the umami burger, which was overcooked (ordered medium, was cooked well). The last person got a salad and really enjoyed it but the avacado on it was completely raw and inedible. Overall, for $20 a meal, the food was really not good.
Also, our waitress (I believe her name was Tayla? It began with a T) was the chattiest person I’d ever met. She stood by our table for at least 5 minutes each time she stopped to ask if we needed anything. She kept suggesting things to order, even though we repeatedly said we weren’t interested in alcoholic beverages. We ended up ordering an appetizer, and she tried to tell us that we needed two orders of it because there would only be enough for each person to have one dumpling (or something like that). Since we were unwilling to spend $25 on just an appetizer, I had to forcefully tell her that we were not interested and she said that we were “making a mistake.” Overall, we had a really bizarre experience with her and it made our dining experience negative.
The last issue is that since it was my birthday, our waitress said that she could get some free cake for me. I accepted. When we got the cake, she had charged us $7 for it. At this point, we were so upset with the experience that we just wanted to leave, so we paid and left as quickly as possible. I live very close to this restaurant and have told everyone I know not to go there. Avoid!
This was my second visit. I have been to Fairfax location numerous times and one time in Bethesda and order same thing usually 90% of the time. The portion of the meal was almost a half size of the Fairfax and Bethesda location. The very 1st time I visited the ancient grains and quinoa were undercooked. A little disappointed. Hoping for the restaurant to be aware of these things and take actions, so I can continue coming back and enjoy my go to dish.
Nice outdoor area. Easy parking in the Ballston garage.
Server was excellent, unfortunately, I can't remember her name.
the food was.....so bland. Does healthy need to mean bland? I don't think so, but they haven't proved otherwise
Great food & service too! Waitress was courteous and so was ALL staff! Thanks!
THANK YOU FOR DINING WITH US!
As always, food and service is excellent. Ambiance is hip and urban.
Thank you for dining with True Food!
Delighted that one of my favorite restaurants from Mosaic now has a Ballston outpost closer to me. I tried the steak tacos which were fabulous.
Thank you for dining wit us! We hope to have you in again soon!
The food taste and presentation was amazing! Our server was not very attentive. It was clear this restaurant was overall very well staffed and committed to a high class meal experience. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for dining with us! We hope to have you back in soon!
