Great place, great ambiance, good food and good service.
Kinda pricey but a good steak when you need one. Also amazing fries.
The Smith will surprise you. Everything on the menu is good. And a few things are just amazing.
We had brunch outside today and they staff did a fabulous job. All of the patrons put their masks on when staff approached, staff were wearing masks, and the outdoor seating was spaced out.
I also want to commend the staff for calmly and gently handling a tough situation that could have gone wrong.
Two homeless men (one white and one black) entered the outdoor seating area in search of water. They were both suffering from some form of mental illness. The staff engaged them very respectfully and got them some water and defused a situation that could have gotten out of hand.
We have been to several restaurants in DC, VA and MD since Phase 2 began, and The Smith was the worst experience. We had made a reservation as we thought this mandatory to be seated. When we arrived (93 degrees), we were told that all inside tables had been seated to walk in guests and we had to sit outside. I asked if since we had a reservation we could be given priority or wait for a table inside, and was told no. Our waitress asked us to put on our masks while my husband was eating a potato chip and I was ordering.
Again, these are strange times; however, this is not our first time back at a restaurant and we found the attitude of the staff to be dismissive and abrupt. We have been to The Smith more times than I can count, and doubt we will return in the near future.
My birthday dinner was great . Raymond was amazing !
Really disappointing experience at The Smith, considering this was our first time venturing into the District since the COVID nonsense began. It's obvious the management's concentration was on takeout orders, not the dozen or so diners sitting at the outdoor tables. I ordered chicken meatballs, my wife the mussel pot, & it took 40 minutes for the meals to be served. Not surprisingly my meal was not hot when it arrived, indicating the waiter forgot to bring it out sooner. I'm sure they are capable of better, but there are way too many restaurants in DC to bother making a return visit.
The servers and the place was amazing! Would love to go back. Perfect birthday relations
Great food , great service. If I had to find a fault, I would say it has a lot of hard surfaces and was pretty noisy.
Coffee was sub par, I don't recommemd it. Peets. Compass or Starbucks is much better...
My girlfriend and I split a burger and the gnocchi and it was so insanely flavorful. I enjoyed every single bite. I also tried one of their spicy cocktails and was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend The Smith for Brunch and Dinner!
I was pretty disappointed with my last visit to The Smith this past Sunday. We had a reservation but didn't get seated for 20 minutes. The hostesses never gave us updates, just kinda looked bored while they waited for tables to be clean. It was extremely unwelcoming. Once we were able to be seated, we followed the hostess to a table that was open the entire time we were waiting.
When we sat, we were never greeted by a server. Someone eventually brought two bottles of water over but didn't bother to tell us which was which. Luckily i have been to The smith several times but the guest i were with had never been.
After 15 minutes, our server finally came over. She quickly took our drink orders and left. I stuck with water and asked for lemon wedges but never received them. It took about 10 minutes for an ice tea to come over and then about 15 minutes for a coffee with no cream. I asked again for the lemon wedges, but they were forgotten.
Once our server finally strolled over, she took our meal orders. We ordered two chicken sandwiches and burger. Food came out really hot and well prepared - everything was tasty! Unfortunately, our lovely server never had a moment to stop by and ask us how we were doing. After lunch, we didn't bother waiting for our food to be boxes up so we just asked for the check. Once the server brought the check over, we finally got our first smile out of her. Great that she smiles when it counts...
The food we ordered was REALLY good, that's why we come back to this place. I was so disappointed with the service. I never once felt welcomed or comfortable while at the restaurant. It just seemed like everyone was tired and overwhelmed with the brunch crowd and ready to clock out.
I think i will wait a bit before coming back to the Smith. I really hope they improve their service. The hostesses and servers must be kinder and welcoming to their patrons.
We had reservations and were seated shortly after arriving. We grabbed drinks at the bar, Manhattan for him - dark and stormy for me. Both were very good. We started with the Mac and cheese, it was good but not the best I have ever had. He got the bone in prime rib - said it was delicious. I got the short ribs, they were good but too many competing flavors in the dish. The short ribs should have been the star and it was underwhelming with all the other vegetables and flavors in the dish. Dessert was good as well, s’mores in a jar and banana chocolate bread pudding. Both were very decadent and definitely the best part of our dinner.
Very slow, but at least friendly, service. Wine serving was small, and warm (room temp for a Sav Blanc) and really overpriced. Food was good, but small portions and again, over priced. $150 for dinner for my family of 3 was all in all not worth it. Will likely not return.
Food and service was fabulous! We brought 2 other couples with us and they were so impressed. Great cocktails and wonderful ambience throughout the restaurant. Thank you we will be back!
Disappointed in the food- usually so delicious but a hamburger bun in a breakfast sandwich? Not good!
