The Greyhound Finchampstead
We were shocked to see it so empty. Staff pleasant enough but one of the barman was flirty to the point of sleazy.
We asked for no coriander on the curry but it didn’t happen. Also upset to see no cheese board on the menu, used to love this but understand since it’s become a greene king chain it’s been removed. Shame as a lot of me and my friends used to really enjoy it with the local cheeses.
Yes very good indeed. Best part was the food absolutely wonderful. This place will not disappoint. Pricey but not too bad. Worth paying extra for the quality.
Good resturant , varied menu , wine list expensive ! Food well presented and good value.
Some off the Staff need to smile more ! As a sad face is not welcoming.
Hi. Found menu very sparse and expensive for what you got. Most other restaurants in the area are a lot more reasonably priced.
I arrived before my friend and let the bar staff know I had a table booked... I ended up standing there like a lemon until my friend arrived and then we asked yet again about our table, and then shower ourselves to said table. In the restaurant area there were two other tables- we sat for a good few minutes without a menu, and it was only when the guy from the bar noticed and brought us down menus. The other two tables were being waited on hand and foot... whereas we were sat for 23 minutes without so much as an acknowledgment from either of the two waiting staff...? The table that walked in after us, had their drinks and starter orders taken straight away even though we’d been sat there ignored for 20 minutes...? In the end we just walked out- lost custom due to what, lazy or ignorant staff? If it hadn’t have been for the you see lad behind the bar, we wouldn’t have even seen a menu!! We walked out and went elsewhere...
The environment was lively, friendly staff and service was good, food was 😊 lovely, would definitely go back again and recommend to friends. Thank you
The Greyhound is nice but waited along time to sit down and then for food. If a restaurant can’t give the best possible service should they accept the booking. This is a hospitality industry, waiting over an hour, being told eight times the kitchen is busy and there is going to be a long wait is not hospitable.
It’s a shame as could be a really nice place.
Quality of food was good but could be hotter
Beautiful homemade food and lovely friendly staff!
Fantastic food and great service. Very attentive waitress.
Amazing dishes , overpriced i think but still its a nice pub and the food was excellent .
Excellent day - food was good and the service was no problem
Lovely food great service bit pricey would def recommend
Great food and service was exceptional!! Had a Sunday Late Lunch and it was generally quiet.
The online menus are confusing in that there is a short lunch menu and a longer main menu but the menu given in the longer menu which does not match the site. We wanted a steak which was not on the menu but was done ( beautifully) for us anyway.
Menus are different from the usual pub offerings and the food has always been well cooked. But this means the price is higher than the usual pubs. Lovely for an occasion though.
Eaten here a few times (Sunday roast) and feel it’s not as good as it used to be. Roast potatoes poor, cauliflower cheese had a strange taste. We all agreed it wasn’t much better than a Toby Carvery but cost a lot more. Overall disappointed and will not return or recommend
Upon arrival at the Greyhound we were disappointed to find we had been seated separately from the main restaurant in the conservatory area where the only company was the DJ who was setting up opposite us. The other tables in this area were empty but had not been cleared. Our party of four were at a table set for six so it was obvious that our table had been changed despite us booking way in advance for this occasion. After 15 minutes of not being offered a drink it became clear that we had been forgotten despite all promises to the contrary. From what we could see, only three staff were serving the entire restaurant. Under these circumstances we left and needless to say our New Years Eve was ruined. We often eat at The Greyhound and have given excellent reviews previously. Never again. We will not be returning.
Food was ok but service very very slow and we were mostly ignored and had to ask each time . Such a shame on a special occasion as it was not a cheap meal and the evening was ruined by careless service
Service very poor 2 and 1/2 hours to serve 1 course, will not be going back.
Cold, over cooked food. Poor and indifferent service.
Good food and nice menu. Steaks were cooked well and everyone else's food was good. I've seen some bad reviews recently so was a bit concerned but all was fine. It was very quiet considering its the lead up to Xmas, but I guess that's the reviews. I would suggest people give is another try for themselves. I think reviews can be quiet harsh sometimes, and not many people review when they've had a good experience.
Venue was lovely, staff were very friendly the starters were great, so everything was going well...however the mains were a tad underwhelming. Especially for the price I was expecting good things.
Pudding was good, I had sticky toffee pudding which was light and tasty. My misses had the cheese off the festive menu, however there was a comma in the wrong place which made us think there were 3 cheese but there was only 2. It wouldn’t have been that big a deal but it was a 2.50 supplement, had we known it was only 2, probably would have stuck with another dessert. Hopefully they throw away that menu! Lol
But overall it was ok. Probably wouldn’t go back for food, but would for a drink at the bar and few starters maybe!
Staff were fantastic, especially the guy who looked like pablo Escobar! 😉
We have always found the experience at the Greyhound variable. This time it was very quiet when we arrived yet we ordered drinks and they took sometime to arrive. As the evening went on, one large party arrived but apart from that the restaurant was still quiet. The service was a little slow - its a shame because the food itself was good. Because of the variable nature of the service here I couldn't recommend. I do wish the restaurant well - the staff are pleasant. A bit more focus on the customer would go a long way.
Very poor service.
30 minutes from ordering drinks to receiving them and that was because I had to chase the waitress otherwise it might have been longer.
Side orders arrived 5 minutes after main meal.
Food was well presented and tasty but poor service spoiled the meal.
Great food, great atmosphere and at a reasonable price. Would recommend for any event, or just a casual dinner.
The service was excellent please keep it up. Food was amazing and the atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely time.
The service was awful, food average and expensive for what you got. Service charge was automatically added to the bill which is out of order when considering how poor the service and food was. There were only 2 members of staff working across the bar and restaurant and the restaurant was very quiet. Having visited this restaurant on many occasions before it's clear that the restaurant must have changed hands and this had not benefited the restaurant in any way. We will not be returning.
The service and food was perfect. Freshly cooked to order. Slightly more expensive than the big standard pubs but quality food. The only improvement I would say is when serving a hot pudding it would be best served on a warm plate as the dessert plate was cold so the pudding only appeared just warm. Will definitely go back for seconds ......
One of the best roast dinners I have had in a while! Go for the duck you won't regret it. The staff had a good sense of humour and were very attentive.
Sunday roast - great food, fast friendly service.
Bit disappointed not to have lamb on the menu.
My friends and I will not return there until they have a proper manager in charge. The Greyhound was probably my favourite eating place until last Friday.
The service my group of 10 received the worst service I have ever experienced.
There was no table service, orders were not dealt with correctly, some of my guests received side orders 20 minutes before the main dish arrived and as a result the side dishes were cold. The duck a couple of the guests ordered was overcooked. Other than delivery of food there was no table service. When we wanted drinks we had to leave the table to go to the bar to order.
Apparently two staff called in sick. This could have been relayed to us to explain the delay in being served. The man in charge was absolutely clueless and I am amazed that he could be trusted to hold that post. The young lad who was looking after the bar was very friendly and helpful. If he was in charge I don’t think we would have had the problems.
The Greyhound had special memories for me and that man has damaged them.
I hope that you pass this review on to someone who can do something to save the Greyhound from probable disaster.
Food was nice. Service was shocking! Had to go and find someone to take drinks order, which was then not passed on and we were told to order again. With the food also, had to find a waiter to take our order. Took over 40mins to get a drink from the first order a lady took to then having to give the order again to someone else.
My wife’s food was served cold. We ordered the pie, which was raw in places, has lots of gristle, barely any meat, mostly sauce. They obviously do not use quality ingredients any more. We would not recommend.
Friendly but inefficient and unknowledgeable service. Food was mediocre and rather expensive for what we had. We would not return.
Food was excellent. Only downside was wine was expensive in comparison to other similar places.
Half of the food was nice.
It's just all a little over priced for the quality. We went on a saturday night and there was only 2 other tables full.
For 2 people with 1 drink each and 1 main the cost was £45+ maybe that's why it's not busy...
Ok is how I would describe the Greyhound. The service was a little slow at points. Patronised by the waitress that referred to her elders as ‘lovelies’.
The food was ok but there was little choice for vegetarians on the menu with fish dishes peppered with pancetta or chorizo.
I was looking forward to a birthday dinner with a group of friends at the Greyhound but unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations.
1. We had to seat ourselves (after ordering our own drinks from the bar).
2. We were asked what we wanted to order before been given menus.
3. Asked how we would like the Braised Steak cooked (braised steak is slowcooked)?
4. I ordered a glass of Merlot to accompany the baked camembert, we had to ask 3 times for the glass of wine, a bottle was brought over & not a glass, a futher wait for the glass - the camembert starter had been ordered and eaten by the time it arrived.
5. The staff albeit friendly were unorganised and different wait-staff would take/bring/check orders. It was a mishmash of an evening. I doubt we will be back.
Have been before and food was excellent so decided to try again. Arrived on a Saturday night to an empty car park!!
Was served water but never mentioned it was chargeable. This is naughty and should make your customers aware. We sent it back and asked for tap. Service was ok, the food however was very good. Shame it was so empty and did lack atmosphere.
We had a great lunch. Just one comment: prawn linguine was somewhat chilli heavy, drowning out other flavours. However we will be back. Lovely team. Thank you!
