Situated within Eastbourne’s landmark Grand Hotel, The Garden Restaurant is a graceful space serving outstanding food on the seafront. High ceilings and oodles of space belie The Garden Restaurant’s sense of intimacy and cosiness, the classically decorated surroundings proving endlessly popular for relaxed romance, family treats and business dinners too. Not only here in the restaurant, but throughout the hotel you’ll experience service of the very highest order, the staff well versed in the ‘customer as king’ theory. But while the seafront setting and extra special service are especially superb, it’s the food served here that visitors really ought to be writing home about. The Garden Restaurant’s chefs focus on the best of British in their menus, sourcing much produce – including fresh fish - in the local rural area and giving old favourites a modern twist throughout breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My partner and I treated my mother to Sunday lunch on her birthday. We had a lovely time. My mother’s dietary request was delicious. The ambiance and service both top notch. The Rolls Royce of Traditional Sunday Lunches!

The setting is traditionally beautiful, the service was good, but the food... it really was terrible. Menu seemed to be 20 years out of date, boasting local produce (fresh asparagus in November?!). The main course was horrendous, cold vegetables (on cold plates), a fillet steak that could not be cut even with a steak knife (I had to leave 3/4 of it as it was inedible) and a lasting taste of weird truffle pate that lingered for the rest of the evening. Not wanting to make a fuss in front of a room full of diners, I discreetly asked one of the waiting staff to advise the chef that the steak was too chewy to eat. I don’t think she let the chef know as my comment was not followed up. We paid our bill and left without daring to sample dessert! Such a massive disappointment (and a pricey one for inedible food).

Food very plain but nice 70’s style. Waiters great . Traditional decor nice but all needs redecoration particularly in bar where sofas have more than seen there day there all worn out and similar to a nursing home . Drinks good but £17 just to high a price for surroundings an eastbourne. We used to visit regularly we’ve now stopped due to escalate prices an worsening decor that never appears to have work done to keep it tidy

Having lived locally for almost 20 years, strangely we have never been to the Grand or the Garden Restaurant. It was my Mother In Law's 83 birthday and the meal was everything we had expected. A traditional hotel and traditional Sunday lunch. Service was impeccable and we were never hurried or rushed. Simple enough menu we all went for beef and it was carved at the table. We all enjoyed it and the portions were perfect. The wine list cater for all tastes and budgets. The Grand is busy for afternoon tea and our only gripe was sitting in the lounge after lunch was all but impossible, as there were no free tables. If you want a traditional Sunday Lunch you cannot beat this and at £31/person wasn't astronomically expensive, We will go back.
