The Crab at Bournemouth
Good quality, well prepared. Catch of the day was whole sea bream which I had and whole sea bass which my husband had (or whole plaice). Both were very good.
ALWAYS EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE - MENU NICELY VARIED AND GOOD VALUE
Again the good was lovely but service was a bit lacking (service slow). Felt the place lacked in ambience and was very noisy. Still not liking the refurb. Not very comfortable and bland!
Excellent service, lovely food great position to go onto the cinema afterwards. Really recommend this place even if you don’t like fish, I had the chicken this time and it was lovely.
We have dined here on several occasions when visiting Bournemouth for a long weekend and as usual it did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the staff are very hospitable. Will definitely book again on our next trip to Bournemouth
The meal started well then our main courses arrived however the sides did not. It was very difficult to get the attention of the waiting staff and when we finally did we reminded them about our sides. 10 minutes later still no sides and we had nearly finidhed our mains. We spoke to the manager and he said he would find out what happened, we said we longer wanted the sided as we had finished eating, however he insisted on bringing them but would charge for them, they arrived luke warm and apart from a small taste ended up wasted. For the prices they charge we would have expected a better service.
The food itself was not bad, but what could have been a nice meal out was sadly ruined by the lack of customer care.
The next day we went to Rick Steins restaurant in Sandbanks and had a completely different experience, the service was exceptional, the food amazing and the bill on a par with Crab, we are extemely unlikely to return.
Oysters were great
Fish of the day was a bit plain
Crab tasted okay but not supersing
Overall, slightly disappointed for the price (nearly 100 for 2)
We were made welcome as we entered the crab, having made our booking through open table , as we knew the restaurant was popular .the bar staff were friendly and bought our drinks to our table, the service was prompt, informative of the menu and friendly. The food was wonderful , we enjoyed every bite and we felt competitively priced for the quality.so good we booked again and they fitted us in the next night as well.
A very pleasant meal in pleasant surroundings. Beautifully cooked scallops and seabream which is no more or less than we would expect from a specialist restaurant. Very good and efficient staff which
were a positive contribution to the evening. The Crab is towards the upper end of prices, but unfortunately fresh fish is expensive wherever yo eat. We would definitely visit again if we find ourselves in Bournemouth in the future.
just Do it!
Tasty food, perfect service, nice surrounding, what else could you wish for? 😀
We love fish and the crab and Rockerfeller oysters were absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very nice and gave us a special dessert when we told them it was our anniversary. Pricy but worth it.
The atmosphere was brilliant, not very loud, good ambiance for conversation with pianist in background. Large dining room, great menu options, friendly and speedy service, will be back in near future.
The food here is decent and the service was excellent. My meal was an interesting take on fish and chips which I would recommend.
Yet again, another great meal at The Crab. Took some friends along for dinner before going to the BIC for a concert, all agreed amazing food in a relaxed atmosphere and must come back again soon.
Every time we eat in the Crab, the food is excellent. The staff are also very friendly and professional.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was amazing! Will definitely be back!
This was our second visit to " Crab ", we realised before we ordered that the restaurant was under staffed and we did ask the question on several occasions especially when our starter was " forgotten " and part of the main " likewise ". However we cannot blame the staff as its not their fault that the owner has decided to under staff this restaurant , we know this as the staff had to finally admit to this. The acoustics at this restaurant need to be addressed as the culmination of many noises reverberates around the restaurant ,
Best about the evening ; David the resident pianist as he was able to cut through the unwanted noise !
It is a shame as our first visit to the Crab , circa a year ago was very good. If you let standards slip customers will soon go elsewhere !
We have dined at the Crab many times before (having stayed at the adjacent hotel) and found it to be excellent. However, on this occasion it was far from good. Service was appalling, and extremely slow. We waited for someone to take our order for 10 minutes and were attended to by at least 6 persons during the meal, such that we could not say who was actually serving our table. This, at a time when the restaurant was far from full. Wine came after the starters (and after a reminder) and serving staff seemed not to know which table was which (the restaurant was far from full). The food, whilst good, was not up to the normal excellent standard, and as for the piano.... Whilst the pianist himself was excellent, it was way too loud for the space and meant that conversation had to be louder than normal, disrupting the meal. It was as though the pianist and diners had to compete. All in all, we left extremely disappointed having very much been looking forward to our visit.
Ambience is so good, a man playing piano as live music is a good thing, but service is not so good. We needed to order something to drink three times, finally drinks arrived. And the food, not so bad, but very poor size and too expensive! We dinner lobster ( a whole one) and it was little, so little like a prawn, mutilated without legs, but her price was almost 45 pounds!. This night, we were in a elegant restaurant and when finish, we came out with the pockets and stomach empty. I don’t recommend this place, almost 80 pounds and finally we needed to dinner in another place this night to dinner.
We visited the crab two years ago when we were in Bournemouth and we are happy to say that it hasn’t changed. The food was outstanding and certainly good value for money. The service is excellent. The ambience was really good we had a lovely evening. We will definitely return next time we are in Bournemouth and it is a shame we are not nearer otherwise we could go more often.
Lovely food amazing service and loved the piano music
Lovely restaurant near the gardens/beachfront in Bournemouth. I had the 1/2 lobster and it was cooked perfectly and my husband had the whole crab and said it was delicious. We will definitely eat here again!
Great restaurant - lobster was outstanding can highly recommend. Fairly busy but not too full either.
Overpriced for what we got. We expected a quality experience given its double A standard and expected to pay for that level of food. The food was, given the price poor and we will not be returning.
Over priced, limited menu, very poor and slow service. Used to be great a few years ago but lost its charm.
It definitely out of my budget but it is worth for a treat, if you love seafood you will be pleasant surprised with the outstanding food quality and costumer service.
Top quality good. Absolutely loved the seafood platter.
Great food & team, worth a visit, opposite BIC too
Great atmosphere and great food.
We were celebrating a birthday and they bough out a lovely surprise dessert.
Was a little disappointed on overall experience, however main and dessert were very good. We went for the set menu and the starters soup was def not a soup. It looked lovely but was more of a froth and very little of it. Definitely not what I expected, the main was tasty and the dessert was lovely. Overall I think lacked a little bit in flavour but great presentation and the staff were okay. I think we should have been offered a glass of wine as part of the package but this was not offered.
Having eaten here a few years ago and enjoyed it....we arrived and it seemed totally different, noisy children shouting and running around, the place echo's as hard floor and very impersonal...much more like an everyday cafe ...The food was ok but not particularly top quality and more like catering...We were overcharged on our bill, £19.60 for 2 martini's & lemonade was more than the price of a bottle of house wine...I had to complain and they refunded some of the price back as they agreed that they had overcharged on the 2 drinks. We did not enjoy the experience and will not be coming back
Absolutely fabulous restaurant great food great place great service overall fabulous would definitely return again next time we are in Bournemouth
Lovely meal whilst at a conference. Tasty seafood.
Beautiful food and excellent service.
We arrived with only one hour before a show starting. To begin with, we were treated as if we were out for a lovely long dinner.
Once we advised them about the show and asked if we could squeeze in two course, nothing was a problem.
Two beautiful dishes were served, all within 45 minutes- just what we needed. Quality of the food was top notch.
Nice menu but lacked on delivery.
My fish was over cooked and my husbands fish and chips were soggy. Give the price tag I expected more attention to detail on the food.
We enjoyed our meal, the fish was very fresh. Ambiance was good with the piano player. Was just missing something (what I’m not quite sure) for me to give it five stars. Overall a good meal in Bournemouth.
Wonderful food and service. The seafood risotto was especially tasty. We had food from the Ala Carte and set menu. Would return without hesitation.
Took my wife her her birthday on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. Superb fine dining seafood at a good price. Great ambience with light piano music being played live. Would certainly recommend
2nd time at the 'Crab' and again the experience was amazing. You feel special as soon as you walk in the door and the staff couldn't be more attentive. Food is excellent and will hopefully be returning soon.
