Again, we had the best server. On our first visit, it did not start out well, but the server was amazing. This visit, my husband wanted the first server again, but our server Meghan was amazing from the minute she came over with water so there was no way I was letting her go. Thank you for paying close attention to detail (understanding my anxiety with covid) and reassuring me that she understood my feelings. That spoke volume.
Great service and atmosphere. Variety of food and drink choices that were delicious.
First time at Blackwall. The major problem was not keeping the brunch buffet adequately replinished and not replenishingredients some foods at all.. There was always a wait for something, the pans were completely empty at times, which accounted for long lines. My server was great!
First time dining here and was sadly disappointed. The restaurant got good reviews so I had my expectations high. I think the server must have been new because she couldn’t answer any questions we had about the menu items. We had to ask for the complementary biscuits, once we saw all the other tables around us get them. I ordered a Diet Coke and the server forgot to bring it, so I had to ask again midway into my appetizer. She brought two different appetizers and we only ordered one. She was a terrible server, but nice. The flaming crab dip was tasty but mostly cream cheese and not so much crabmeat. I got the steak and cheese sandwich and it was very fatty. My friend got the crab-cake sandwich and said it wasn’t very good and certainly not worth the money. I also ordered a side of cheese grits and didn’t care for them either (the cheese left a weird aftertaste). The only item that we both thought was good was the Barn Fries.
Treated my aunt fir her birthday every one enjoyed themselves
My burger came with no million dollar bacon and then I got regular bacon instead...
Our waitress Emma was amazing. Prompt and always offering a smile. The food was fresh and very good. Even the manager came around to check on tables. Very nice place.
Food and service were great as usual.
Food came out in a timely fashion. Waitress was very attentive.
Outstanding service and meal - latte loud but a small price to pay for the dining experience.
Enjoyed our visit. Service was quick and attentive. Food was very good. We will return!
Everything was good except the wings. They were not to my liking. I’m not a fan of jumbo wings.
The crab gazpacho was amazing. Loved the butterflies branzino and the crab dip.
My husband got the chicken and waffles but wasn’t impressed. The cheese grits were a little dry.
Summer Love was a refreshing and delicious cocktail. Love the decor we will definitely go back! Overall I’d say 4.5/5 stars
Very attentive staff, pleasant service, and food was overall good.
Great service and food. The flies were annoying. Last time I went in July there was a gnat problem. Will still return though.
My husband enjoyed our lunch experience very much! The most important things I look for in a restaurant are: cleanliness, friendly waitstaff, and good food. Blackwall Barn did not disappoint. The host and our waitress were both very pleasant and helpful, and our service was smooth without any hiccups. As for cleanliness-- restaurant was clean and the bathroom passed the test. (The cleanliness of the bathroom is a good indicator of the cleanliness of the kitchen). The food was fresh and well-prepared. We split a burger and the mahi - mahi tacos. The fish was tasty, but the tacos could've been dressed a bit more. Still good though! Burger was perfectly cooked-- no complaints there! The brussels are to die for. We split a berry cobbler that was just OK- it was lacking in the berry department. My husband's smoked old-fashioned was amazing-- worth $15? Probably not, but a very nice splurge. I had two glasses of pinot grigio that I was very happy with. Over all, it was an excellent visit, and we will be back again!
AMAZING food! Service was exceptional. Definitely will return.
This was our second trip to Blackwall. We fell in love with it the first time. The service was outstanding and you can't beat the ambiance. Last night, though, my only concern was that we had to wait a long time to get our appetizers and when they came, my calamari was kind of warm, like it had been sitting for a long time. I didn't say anything because I was so hungry, and just decided to let it pass. Also, another minor thing is that the first time, the waiter automatically brought biscuits to us while we waiting for the appetizers. This time we had to ask for the biscuits.
Otherwise, we had a very good visit. The food was good. The entire place has the kind of class that you don't normally see in this area. It is very well decorated; the bar is very professionally operated. All of the people were very nice and pleasant with smiles on their faces, including our waitress. The place is very clean and well-kept - the outside and the inside.
Just one more small thing, though. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and we notified the restaurant of that online. Usually, a restaurant does something special for a special occasion. We didn't get any of that.
Other than that, the food was great overall and Blackwall is one of the best, if not the best, place to have dinner in the county.
We got the farm chicken cobb salad. A couple of weeks ago, it was EXCELLENT. Yesterday, it was okay. The chicken was overcooked and dry and the cucumbers didn’t look fresh. The blue crab gazpacho soup was excellent as was the Smith Island cake.
Great food, great service, I had a late reservation but I arrived significantly early but the provided me with a very nice table
Charcuterie plate had huge pieces of bread and chuncks, not slices of cheese. Also no knife or small fork to manage the food. Generous salad was served with a third cup of oil. House vinaigrette had no vinegar or seasoning. Took it home for my own dressing. Chicken a bit dry, disappointing!
Pretty expensive for 2 sandwiches and 2 salads. Only beverage was coffee.
The Lodge burger, fries, & brussel sprouts were good. Hassan & partner were very accommodating in the patio area. I wanted to give five stars, BUT the flies were out of control. I know, that's what I get for sitting in the patio area.
Food was excellent! A new favorite place for us! Beautiful venue if you had a group - very farmhouse chic decor.
We had a really nice time. The food was great. I’ve there twice now and we will be coming back. My only complaint is I do not believe people know what business casual dress. However that being said it will not stop me from coming again!
Great wait staff, food, and cocktails.
There were a lot of flies but other than that everything was lovely!
had family dinner at The Blackwall Barn and Lodge on Wednesday evening. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very "country chic".
The ambiance at this restaurant is very elegant yet inviting. The appetizers I had were very tasty. My linguini entree was lacking in seasoning but my friends' fish dishes were very good. This is a great restaurant for an upscale evening out!
Food was delicious, with plenty of healthy options for a Type 1 diabetic. Server was very attentive and kind. I will return!
This is definitely a place to add to visit. Staff was very friendly with lots of smiles. Very friendly environment. I will be back again
Food wasn’t as tasty as my first visit. Smoked Sugar Old fashioned made with regular ice vs. one solid ice cube and didn’t taste smoked flavor. Sitting outside near the bar area had a lot of insects and flies landing on our food and around patrons.
Had a dinner reservation for 2. Arrived on time and we were placed at a high top at the bar that was so small dinner was difficult. We accepted this table figuring they would be busy and this was our option. They were at about 40% capacity and we could have had a nice table with some room to move. The saving grace was that the 2 bartenders serving us were great, very attentive and personable. We will go back just won’t accept a high top again.
Great place to dine and amazing atmosphere! I recommend
Good food and service as usual. Love the ambience. Had the short ribs (loved) and Chesapeake pasta -- the sauce was bit runny, but flavorful.
First time eating here with my girlfriend for her birthday. Very nice, relaxing spot. Food is brought out in good timing once you order and it's freshly made. Service was great. I'd recommend for sure.
Nice ambiance, menu selection, and quality. Cocktail prices are on average to a little higher than other similar level restaurants.
Best meal out in a long time, everything about the restaurant was top notch.
