Temper Covent Garden
Fri, Sat 11:30–00:00
We went to Temper as a birthday dinner, and enjoyed it so much we almost ended up back for lunch the next day! Mains were delicious, perfectly cooked, and our bar seats were incredible as we could watch the staff do their magic. Strongly recommend leaving room for dessert and having their cookie as it is one of the best desserts I've ever had!
We were taken to the table, to find it wasn’t ready, we had to stand in a busy area whilst the greeter cleaned and reset the table.
My main was cold when it arrived, it didn’t taste particularly great. Food is expensive for what you get, wouldn’t recommend to others.
However, the waitress that served our table was really nice, offered to make recommendations and was friendly.
Really good food, made the mistake of ordering a deep pan pizza each which were beautiful but very rich. Portions were decent size so would recommend ordering different bits and sharing to enjoy all of the flavours!
Turned up at lunch time. Music was so loud. Had to ask for it to be turned down.
Food average - menu obscure.
I expect it is better suited for drinking.
Nice fit out.
This is not the same ambience or service as the Soho or City restaurants. The service is chaotic and un attentive. Table not ready when arrived , but were ushered into crowded bar on one side and left in the way of dinners and servers. No server to order drinks from and not possible to get to the bar as dinners already sat at the bar.
When ordering no advice of feedback and consequently way to many sharing dishes were ordered as some of our party did not realise the dished ordered were for sharing.
Finally the music was is so loud (and dance music! hardly conducive for dinning) you could not talk to the guest opposite.
Food was very good though but sadly would not go here again but would to the city or soho branch.
Loved the counter seating, watching the chefs and chatting with them as well. Would have liked more entree options.
Fun and tasty, we had been to the city one previously and enjoyed that too. Was t entirely convinced by waiters service, they weren’t as bubbly, helpful and exciting as the one we had in the temper City restaurant...nevertheless, we had fun and really enjoyed all the food. Recommend the lamb flatbread, goat tacos and the deep dish pizzas are great!
Amazing food, good atmosphere...but
We were there for a late lunch on the occasion of my husband's 60th birthday. We all loved the food and the vibe. Overall we had a great time. But my gripe is with poorly trained waiting staff and poor communication. I had made requests at the time of booking, for instance where we wanted to sit. Front of house seemingly knew nothing about this. As it wasn't too busy they did manage to sort this. 3 people came in succession to take our order order after we had placed it and considering it was a third full I think the food took a long time to come. We were offered water initially, which was good, but considering there were 5 of us and we were there for 2 hours, I think it's remiss that we were not offered any more after the first bottle of tap water went rapidly. We had cocktails and wine too, but we were too busy in conversation to notice the lack of water, but realised later on we had not drunk enough of the good stuff!
I had informed the restaurant that it was part of a special birthday celebration and would appreciate any extra help they could offer in making it memorable, but they did nothing to make it special in any way.
When we left we were taking pics outside and one lovely member of staff did pop out, unasked, to take a photo for us. Well done that woman!
So to sum up, our experience was average, and only that good because WE made it so. It could be a really fab restaurant if they upped their game with front of house and more kitchen staff.
This was my first time to this branch and absolutely loved it! We ordered the Cheeseburger Tacos, lamb chops, burrata and courgette flat bread, heritage tomato salad and the cookie for dessert which was the perfect amount for 2 people! We had a couple of new waiters serve us, which we could tell as they didn’t know about the wines and couldn’t explain how it worked with ordering. However, the main waiter (lady with the blonde hair and glasses) soon took over and was extremely warm, welcoming and knowledgable. I also didn’t give 5 stars overall as there is nowhere to out your coats if you’re sitting around the bar so had to put my expensive coat on the floor at one point as it’s really low which I was not impressed with. However the food totally makes up for any of this and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening!!!
Good vibe, loud music busy Saturday night. Good atmosphere. Food was tasty but quality wasn’t consistently great - some of the meat wasn’t great and quantity of meat was low for prices. Good level of heat/ spice.
Service was the real issue - waited an exceptionally long time for drinks, the. To order, then a main course was forgotten (in a party of 3). Waiting staff were manic so nobody even noticed we didn’t have plates or drinks. The missing meal was taken from the bill as they tried to make amends. Suspect much of this was down to a busy Saturday night - but it did ruin the experience and I wouldn’t go back as a result.
Overpriced average food. Despite being in list of best West End restaurrants it did not live up to same. Disappointing.
Fantastic food, the pizza's were delicious, great goat tacos! Good drinks list.
Great food and customer service, will definitely go back again.
Temper in Covent Garden is a great looking venue but the warm beer and overly seasoned mains disappointed.
Our starters of wagyu and cheese taquitos and burnt aubergine tacos were delicious and spicy, but our fish or the day (sole) and steak mains underwhelmed. I was particularly surprised to not be given a side plate to place the bones and skin from my fish onto, half way through the meal I lost my appetite as my plate looked like a scene from a long lost biology class!
Great food, wine and service, nice atmosphere too. Great recommendations from our friendly waitress. I’m sure I will return again!
Was drawn to this particular restaurant because of the reviews of their cheeseburger pizza. I let a pescatarian ultimately decide because the menu has to be good for them. They went for the tacos and weren't disappointed. The soft shell crab was a highlight and the cheeseburger pizza itself was smaller than I thought but certainly was enough to fill. Was pretty much what you would expect from a cheeseburger pizza although the American mustard was slightly sweet. Atmosphere was nice and the staff attentive. Would recommend if in the area. We went at around 5.30pm, so was not too busy but can imagine it fills up. Would go back to try the selection of meats they offer.
Worst service I've had in a restaurant. The food was ok, kind of pricey.
Excellent service. Great food. Definitely worth a visit
We were group of 6, including two children, pre-show supper. It was a mixed experience. There's no question that the menu and preparation of the food is something different, and that's refreshing. But we did think some of the plates were unexceptional, such as the beef fat potatoes. Our main challenge were the 'cheeseburgers' which we knew from Timeout review were not burgers, but a small ragu of meat - and in a taco wrap. The meat was very rare, had raw chili so not child friendly. In fairness the staff did bring another cooked through, which was more digestible for the child, but we'd run out of time. The initial slow service did improve a lot. Salads were delicious. Overall it's something different, and a nice place to be, but not really family friendly. Great for couples and groups, but select your menu options carefully.
Sunday set lunch with friends. Food was great but service was terrible. No one seemed to know what they were doing apart from the manager which was worrying as it was a set menu, so you would presume it would be easy.
Food arrived at different times which is far from ideal with a group of friends and cocktails were served in the smallest glass I’ve ever seen and for £10 a pop, it felt like a rip off!
Such a pity as the food was good.
We went for the whole lamb barbacoa on Sunday. The lamb was amazing, as were the sides. The peanut butter desert thing was amazing, almost too rich.
My only quibbles were with the starters. None were great, the anchovy, pickle and cheese tostaditos were genuinely horrible - the flavours didn't work together at all. And, weirdly given that tacos are a big feature of the menu, all the tacos were mealy and kind of unpleasant.
The service is quite slow and they tended to forget our orders (twice..). Unfortunately this is not the first time. Last time when I went to the place they also forgot our orders and we waited for long... Hope the service improves!
The service was incredibly poor and the wait staff in general seemed confused and disorganised. It took us ages to place a drink order and even then was only taken for half our party. There was then another large wait to place our food order and the waiter seemed annoyed we asked to place our order.
When the food finally arrived it was the wrong order.
We were seated at the counter and the main chef noticed we we annoyed with the service so did give us a complementary side order which was nice.
When we asked for the bill it again took ages and no one asked if we would like desert or anything else. We then waited so long to pay that we just went up to the main serving station as no one was coming to attend to us.
Will not be returning.
The service was not at the level you could expect from a place like this. The server did not hive any greeting, information or check up on the table during the meal. Another male waiter with good energy took over the table towards the end of the meal and did well. Food was ok
Love this place; food, atmosphere and service all brilliant. Had a great time.
Great food, great service, great location. Temper is always a winner.
Mexican? No quasidallias or enchiladas or tacos with chicken. Nice atmosphere but not a Mexican
We'd been really excited about coming to temper as it was my fiancè's birthday and our engagement celebration. Unfortunately it felt like from the moment we arrived we were neglected. We waited 15 minutes to be seated despite reserving, we waited at the bar for our table but weren't offered drinks or menus. Starters took an hour to arrive, (one of which was a bar snack) and the other was wrong. I ordered a steak and as we had an open view of the kitchen I could see a steak being prepared and was then kept warm for about 45 minutes (I was fairly certain it was mine as when it disappeared a steak shortly arrived at our table, and it was tough). The sides didn't arrive and nor did a glass of wine which had been ordered 20 mins previously. Overall incredibly disappointing.
Outstanding, helpful and attentive service. Food that I can't stop thinking about. A cracking combination of cheese, meat and veges and I will definitely be going back when we're next in London
Great food, service and atmosphere. Cool place to enjoy.
It music was SO loud we had to ask to move tables downstairs, which wasn't any better. I'm 32, I'm gay, I like to dance, but at 8pm whilst it's too loud to even concentrate on the menu. Also, two of the four flat breads we ordered weren't what we ordered. It was too loud to consider complaining and tbf what we had was lovely, it just wasn't what we ordered. Luckily none of us were veggie as two of what we ordered weren't veggie but all of what we got we're meat! Staff were amazing though. Would definitely think twice before popping along again
I had a great dinner at the restaurant. The ambience was vibey, good music, busy, and delicious meals. We will be back!
Great food and friendly staff with a fun atmosphere. Would go again.
Nice restaurant and food with attentive staff. Two challenges - some things dont make sense guacamole with no chips? Plus price v quantity isn't great - flatbread are tasty but expensive for what you get. That being said I would go back
First visit to this great restaurant. Six of us shared quite a range of dishes. All were really tasty. I look forward to choosing my favourites to enjoy on my own next time. Service was very good. Helpful friendly and professional.
Tasty tacos for £5. Good portions per serving. Mains were flavourful. Shared toilets but nice and clean.
We had seats at the bar which I’d really recommend as we got see and smell the food going in and out of the clay oven. Delicious food and very helpful service. Especially loved the steak, octopus taco and the really good house red
My wife and I both loved the mix of foods that Temper offered. They were beautifully spiced, and absolutely delicious. Service was also fast, friendly and efficient. Will definitely go again. It was the best Halibut I have had in ages!
We enjoyed the meal but found the music level far too loud to be able to able to talk to one another. We did request it be turned down a little but this wasn't done.
So impressed with the food! Service was a little slow and felt untrained however in general he experience was fantastic.
