Sweetbay Restaurant & Bar
Nice place, good service. Cocktails and food tasty, but crepe brûlée was overcooked :(
We had a wonderful time celebrating our wedding anniversary.
There appears to be minimal sound absorption so that speaking loudly is required. During this pandemic that is not cool.
Was expecting something a bit more upscale. Thought restaurant was noisy, especially coming from the bar. Seemed more like a sports bar atmosphere. Not where I would go for a special/quiet evening.
Thought the hostess was under dressed ( wearing short shorts and tank top).
Food was okay but over priced in my opinion for the atmosphere.
Would recommend but depending on their reason for dining out.
Our first visit and what a great experience we had. The food was very good, portions were good sized and the presentation was excellent.
The service was very, very good. Their special cocktail selection on our Tuesday visit was quite original and very enjoyable.
If you’re in the Leonardtown area, please stop in, relax and enjoy a great Dining experience.
Food was great...but it's a little pricey. The place was quiet and the staff was great but you can tell they are new.
Amazing service. Food was absolutely incredible. Aesthetically very pleasing. We loved it and will be back!
A little on the loud side. Wait staff was excellent
Service was great from the time we walked in and was greeted by the hostess to our server. The restaurant has a refreshing feel, definitely not something we're use to down here. I ordered the Sweet Mary cocktail, and I had to get a second one because it was perfect. We got the fried green tomatoes, I have never had them prepared with black eyed peas on top, but they were so good. I ordered the scallops for dinner. They were cooked perfect, melted in my mouth and the mushroom risotto was so creamy. I didn't want my meal to end. I wish I would have had some aspargus or something with the dish is my only complaint. Overall great experience, ill definitely be back!
Overall very good
Due to pandemic restrictions more difficult to review
Had a birthday at table and that was handled I an excellent manner
Excellent drinks, wonderful food and terrific service. We'll be back!
Nice evening out during Covid
Great restaurant! Food is always so good. The Halibut dinner is my favorite.
Great food and service. You can tell they care about their patrons. We will be back soon!
A very enjoyable dinner and evening. We plan to return next week! 👍
Excellent. Grilling the lettuce wedge was a nice touch. Paella was outstanding for me being one that likes spice in my food. My bride had the scallops for the second time and they are still outstanding! Time between serving could be tightened up and the high price made me select 4 stars for value. We sat inside across from the bar at the windows and as such one of the better locations in the restaurant but the action at the bar was providing a good bit of background noise. The occasion was celebration of birthday and anniversary. Outstanding restaurant for such occasion. Thank you!
The restaurant was very nicely decorated, the wait staff very pleasant and efficient. Their drink menu was very original, and both of our drinks were very good. (Pineapple Mojito & Cucumber Chipolate Margarita
The food we ordered, (Calamari & Crab Cakes) was well presented, and good, but not great. The biggest disappoint was the lack of choices on the menu, particularly since they are so close to the Chesapeake Bay it would have been nice to have local fish and shell fish as an option instead of Halibut.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience.
Great food, well prepared and presented. Highly recommend.
Evening was perfect except the music was a bit loud
We are so glad Sweetbay opened in Leonardtown. It's an excellent addition to the community. The food and service are top notch.
Great food and atmosphere. I would recommend to try.
The food tasted amazing, and the specialty drinks were perfect.
We had excellent service and the food was absolutely amazing! The scallops and risotto was out of this world delicious! I wish I could remember our servers name, as she was super friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
The only downside was there were a few smokers outside the wine shop next door, but they weren’t there the entire time we had dinner, which was nice. We will definitely be back! Love the outdoor seating too!
Great Food, Great Service, Great Go-To Restaurant. Never ad a bad meal or experience here. Highly recommend!
We started off with seriously delicious CALAMARI lightly fried with calabrian aioli, along with martinis. Honestly, perfectly prepared - so light. All four of us had different entrees: BLACK LINGUINE AI FRUITTI DI MARE including LOBSTAH, BONE IN GRILLED PORK CHOP, BURGER and the TROPICAL BLACKENED SHRIMP chicken, sausage and mango served on a pineapple half. All professionally plated, cooked to perfection and delicious. You can imagine that the pineapple entree presentation was spectacular. The taste and flavors matched it. Even the fries with the burger were cooked and flavored to perfection.
We sat inside due to the thunderstorm, but everything was open, airy, inviting and Covid clean and ready.
We will definitely drive to Leonardtown again soon for a delicious night out. And PS - Don't pass up an ESPRESSO MARTINI for dessert. OMG
Perfect for a few friends to have dinner.
You need to get Leonardtown to give you more outdoor space. I know, "Lotsa luck with that". Think about opening a restaurant in LaPlata.
This has become one of my most favorite spots in Leonardtown. The food, the environment, the staff - it’s all amazing. I am so excited to have something very “city” in small St. Mary’s county! I have been a few times and have yet to be disappointed, plus I love their ever evolving menu. Keep up the amazing work, Sweetbay staff!
Overall the food was good, a little pricey for what was offered but the taste was good. I would say this is a typical DC restaurant brought to Leonardtown, which is nice to see. The ambiance was very nice as was the service.
Outstanding restaurant! We discovered Sweetbay right after they opened which was just before the Covid-19 pandemic. Going back was a treat. We shared the Ahi Tuna and roasted cauliflower - both were wonderful. My wife ate light with a great salad; my daughter had the steak that was done to perfection; I had the seared scallops. I just say enough good things about them - fantastic! The staff was excellent taking good care of us in these trying times. Can't wait to go back.
Celebrated our Anniversary there the food was excellent , service excellent I was very impressed with how well the workers and I guess the manager got along . If I had any thing negative was did not like the appetizer selection. The scallops and risotto was excellent so was the duck . Will definitely be going back.
One of the first days of post- Covid closure, service was outside. We order a salad to share as an appetizer and it wound up coming with the main course. We asked to substitute a sauce on one of the entrees with just butter, but after consulting the cook, the waiter said "we have no butter." Surprised, but the olive oil substituted was fine. The salad (kale, strawberries and spiced walnuts ) was great. Wife had halibut with a corn-avocado and tomato salsa; very good. I had Lomo Saltado, and the beef was a bit overcooked/tough, but tasted good. Given they are just "restarting" after the Covid hiatus, I won't ding them too much for a less - than - perfect experience. We'll come again.
Decor was new and enjoyable for the area. The menu is well designed but pricey for the area - wine especially eyebrow raising pricey. The food was excellent so the value is high. Service was friendly.
The music choice was wholly inappropriate for the ambiance and decor - country music both didn't fit and wasn't enjoyable.
Several overly loud bar patrons soured the otherwise quiet restaurant but that can't be blamed on the staff or natural intent but it is a byproduct of a single room establishment.
We will be back, though.
Great food, service, decor, vibe but it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. I was told I was in the quiet section. Don't know if I'll come back on a weekend.
Sweet Bay was amazing! The food was great both times we went there and the service was excellent. We have now been there twice and won’t hesitate to go back again. This most recent time we went, they had a short rib special and it was the best I have ever had, hands down! My wife and I both got it, along with an appetizer of wings and an excellent creme brûlée. They have some great gluten free choices and both times we were there, our waitresses doubled checked with the chef to ensure all items were gluten free for my wife. This place is great and I look forward to continuing to support them.
Our experience was wonderful! The Scallops over Risotto are AMAZING. We tried the Key Lime Dessert, wow oh wow. Delicious. I would definitely recommend.
Delicious dinner and appetizers. Noise level was too high to enjoy conversation in the booths. Front tables were ok for noise. It would be good to add sound control in the booth area .
Second time here. The cocktails are beautifully crafted, as is the menu. I find the menu a tad pricey, but not enough for me to go somewhere else. The noise is an issue, at times. Maybe some sound-absorbing things?
Portions great, calamari perfect could of had whole dinner with just multiple orders of calamari. Wife's salad shrimp was very good. My dinner seafood mix in rice was to spicy which made it intolerable to enjoy. Never order again.
PS; I enjoy Mexican food with hot peppers but that is expected to be hot.
I have eaten here several times. The food is exceptionally good and the service has always been top notch. If you have not been here, you need to go.
