Just great dinner
New interesting wine/beverage list
the service is amazing...the restaurant is really small, so you need to do a reservation
The food is fantastic. I love the omekase experience.
Very good assortment of fish, everything seemed super fresh. Chef was personable enough and gave good insight on all the fish. We went here a year ago it is has gotten way better since the first time. Excited to go back.
Wonderful people. Insanely good food.
We loved the omakase at Sushi Kaito. The staff was amazing and anticipated our every request. The fish was perfectly fresh and impeccably sliced. We tried some familiar varieties and some unusual ones too! It was very well priced for the value of the food and experience.
We really enjoyed our time here. I went with a good friend and the chef was extremely friendly and welcoming. Of course the food was spectacular and the ingredients were very fresh. One of the best place for a reasonable priced omakaze in the upper west side and I would definitely go again.
There is no better omakase on the UWS. Great chefs and wait staff to boot.
It was great experience for 12 pieces. Service was awesome.
A very special dining experience.
A truly authentic experience. Exquisite!
As usual, it was excellent authentic sushi. Now they have a good selection of Sake, too.
Sushi Kaito is my new favorite place on the UWS!
Everything is fantastic, the food, the service and the ambiance.
Kaito is one of the elite omakase meals in the city, but without the elite price tag. Unfortunately, I was in that sushi bliss state so I can’t remember the details of each piece that was served.
They now offer wine and sake at fair prices.
Chef greg made for a very special night. He answered any question and explained each course throughly. Hands down the best sushi I have had.
New sushi counter omakase in UWS. Great quality fish but rice could be improved.
We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Kaito. My son is 12 and had been asking for an omakase experience for several months. I did some research on more affordable options and settled on Sushi Kaito because of the location and the reviews. I wanted my son to really taste the fish and understand the importance of that quality and freshness before taking him to one of the blowout sushi restaurants. I did let the restaurant know a younger diner would be coming. They were very lovely to both of us. Our chef answered our questions and was wonderful with my son. The rest of the staff were attentive and charming as well. The fish was very, very good. Definitely extremely fresh and well prepared. We liked each course and had a fairly even number of white, silver, and other types. It is a fairly straightforward presentation, none of the fireworks you can get in those very high-end establishments, but I think it is excellent bang for the buck and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Excellent! Prices were 20% higher than online and then we were expecting.
sushi kaito offers great sushi omakase. This was already my third visit since they opened and I always end up getting the 16 piece omakase. I’ve tried sushi omakase from other restaurants in nyc but this is by far the best.
A delicious, authentically Japanese experience...worth every penny
Great place with an excellent fish. A must try for those who like sushi.
Best omakase we have had in New York. Delightful service. Expensive but worth it.
Great sushi, great chef, and great service
Authentic Omakase style sushi now on UWS! Kaito now serves Sake & Wine. Arigato Kaito!
Best Omakase in NYC! Fresh fish and affordable price. Only $120 (including tip) for 16 pcs Omakase.
I have tried multiple high end omakase restaurants in NYC and Sushi Kaito competes with the best of them. High quality fish, excellent service, fun and educational interaction with the chefs. Will definitely be back.
The absolute best sushi restaurant on the upper west side. Better than the UWS branch of Gari and any other contender. It is a must try...after which you will become a regular.
I’ve been here over 4 times now and I love it. It’s my favorite restaurant on the Upper West and some of the best sushi you can get in New York. It is extraordinary and such good value.
The chefs are masterful and watching them is mesmerizing.
I can’t wait to go back.
Everything was amazing until the end. It was my second time to the restaurant, we were so impressed with our first meal we wanted to come back. This time we selected the 16 course sushi menu with sake. The meal was perfect until the very end. We received our tamago, our last course, and I ran to the bathroom. In the 2 minutes I was gone, the waitress told my husband that they needed our seats, brought the check, waited for him to pay, and took away my last course. Mind you, a 16 piece course sushi meal at $120 comes out to $7.50 each course, so the waitress threw out $7.50 worth of food without asking me. And I understand they may have needed the seats, but we were held by the timing of the sushi chef. We ate the fish as soon as it was served to us, there was no lag in timing on our end. I’m beyond disappointed. This place is relatively new, and while the fish is delicious, I can easily spend $300 for a night out with much better service elsewhere. I am appalled and disappointed at the lack of respect we received.
This omakase only restaurant wins compliments for the freshest fish and its classic yet creative combinations.
Truly an exceptional restaurant for exceptional occasions of fine dining when you want (and have the time for) the food as the evening’s entertainment.
Great food, atmosphere isn’t great. They need music, would make it better.
I had read the rave reviews on Yelp, and they weren't exaggerating!! Traditional sushi (no tables, only a counter, as it should be), but with a twist of artistry. You can get two levels of omakase (chef's choice), starting at $90. The price looks steep, but the waitstaff are paid a living wage, so tips for them are effectively included in the price; you can tip the chef, and ours definitely deserved what we gave him. You won't get any fancy dragon rolls, and I didn't see any avocado, thank goodness. I've lived in Japan, and this stacks up with some of the best there. The chef grates fresh wasabi imported from Japan, and puts just a smidgen of soy sauce on the sushi, if that's what it should have (no bottles on the counter). The selection of sake is reasonable. I asked for a chef who spoke Japanese, and he was delightful as well as highly skilled. This is a real dining experience, and I recommend it highly.
Incredible sushi and the chef tailored everything to dietary restrictions & dislikes! Hands down the best sushi experience in Manhattan!
Easily the best sushi i have had in the neighborhood, and maybe in NYC. Phenomenal quality
pretty expensive for UWS neighborhood . had some really loud noisy big people who were abnoxious! Ho HUM! happens.
Great addition to the UWS. This was our 3rd visit since it opened. Continues to be great. At the new higher price of $120 is a bit less good value, but still good price point for the quality. They did reduce to 3 seatings per night, which means you now have more time to enjoy the experience and enjoy the new sake selection which is a welcome addition. Would highly recommend.
List a bit
They are getting famous the fish wasn’t as fresh
Jeff was really hurried
No more byob. BUT THEY ONLY HAVE ONE BEER
Great experience, sushi melts in your mouth. Raised price a bit, but still very affordable
