St. Anselm - DC
They did a super job with COVID precautions.
St. Anselm provides an excellent outdoor seating alternative to address Covid-19 concerns and allowed me to feel comfortable enjoying a date night in our "new normal". In addition, I have to eat a gluten free diet and the waitress inspired confidence with her knowledge of what was gluten free or not and ensured she would double check with the kitchen on the items she couldn't hands down confirm the ingredients herself. The meal was delightful with great service time, the steak was cooked to absolute perfection, and I really enjoyed myself. Will come again!
My fiancé and I just recently got engaged and wanted a nice dinner to celebrate. Dominique was so incredible! She got us complimentary champagne, and was spot on with steak & cocktail recommendations. Highly recommend the ribeye!
Our first time eating at a restaurant since COVID and could not have been more pleased. The staff took every precaution to keep us safe in an effortless way that made the evening feel normal. Food was delicious! Biscuits, cucumber salad, and oysters were fresh and the perfect way to prepare for our meal. Tuna steak and the steak with grilled broccoli again cooked to perfection. The 4th of July ice cream was one of the best desserts we’ve had and hope it becomes a regular item and not only a feature. Thank you to everyone for welcoming us back! We had missed you and look forward to returning again soon!
Tom Sietsema doesn't lie - this place is amazing. Definitely plan to go and get Tom's recs - namely, the biscuits, steak, monster prawn, and dessert. Service is top-notch. Highly recommend.
St. Anselm has done a good job to ensure that patrons and are comfortable in their new socially-distanced outdoor seating section; servers were friendly and conscientious, and the food was delicious.
Family birthday dinner at St. Anselm was great. One of the better dinners we have had in DC, and I would say the steaks (and pork) were better than Capital Grill, Prime Rib, Bourbon Steak, etc. Biscuits are outstanding.
Plus, the atmosphere is way hipper.
Some of the best food, and definitely best steak in dc.
thanks for the rare, covid-era night out! our outdoor experience was perfect — from the food (ribeye and prawn) and drinks to the sidewalk social distancing. first time visiting but will be back again!
Great wine list, great sommelier, great service and overall experience.
Menu is a bit limited at the moment but still a great experience.
Trying to do anything I can to keep this place one of the best in DC...
Really great food and atmosphere, the waiter was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Will definitely be returning
Arthur was a fantastic server! He coursed everything perfectly and was the epitome of hospitality. Management and food runners were superb as well!
We always love St Anselm and this time did not disappoint. We went for my fiancé’s birthday and had an amazing meal!! The wait staff was all friendly and considerate and also adhering to all safety standards in a very thorough way! I felt so bad for them when they encountered guests who refused to follow the rules even when asked politely to wear a mask when not dining. Food as usual was A++ and we had a great time!
Very nice evening experience. Food was delicious and service was impeccable. It was nice to dine out and feel safe doing so.
The steak and the crab deviled eggs were amazing
This is a very good restaurant. Everything was excellent. They really know how to comply with pandemic issues. Outside and inside seating.
We are never disappointed. Outstanding and wonderfully yummy food.
It was great overall but would recommend they get umbrellas because the patio was very hot and cold drinks get hot quickly on the iron tables.
Great food and wonderful service.
The food was great service helpful and patient and given the events of the day, the restaurant is very forward thinking.
The atmosphere is different right now because of Covid 19, but the food and service were fantastic. You must try the biscuits.
Always my go-to. I love to enjoy their outdoor dining, while sipping wine and eating the delicious biscuits. The steak is wonderful and the workers are so sweet and attentive.
Our first outdoor dining coming out of the pandemic. Well done! Salmon collar was delicious with a white wine.
The tuna was terrible
For my girlfriend's birthday dinner, we ordered appetizers, drinks, entrees and sides (NY Strip/Ribeye w/ Mac + Cheese and Mashed Potatoes). We received the appetizers and drinks, but not the entrees or sides as the server apparently forgot to place the order.
We waited patiently, but apparently too long as by the time we inquired about our food, the kitchen had closed and, thus, we essentially did not have dinner. While I'm sure this is a rare occurrence, it nonetheless reflects poorly on the establishment, especially with limited tables to pay attention to due to the Phase I limitations.
Had brunch outside during the pandemic. The service was the same as before and the food was equally good.
The staff at St. Anselm were practicing social distance guidelines very well. They did whatever they could to help reduce the amount of contact while also providing excellent customer service. We will be back again!!! Thank you
You have to start with the biscuits and pimento cheese. Great wine selection and reasonable pricing. The steak, especially the ribeye, is phenomenal. Love this place. Can’t go wrong with any of the food.
my favorite go to restaurant in dc. service and food is impeccable every time. also relatively affordable. had dinner for 4 with drinks for $150
My wife and I had:
Cucumber salad - light and fresh
deviled eggs - more rich, but crab on top was good
venison chop - very good
butcher steak - smaller than I expected but was good (asked for medium and got medium rare but no big deal
mushroom side - went well with steak
cauliflower - highlight of the meal - massive portion
carrot cake for desert - walnuts and raisins check
We took my mother-in-law and brother-in-law here the day before they had to shut down the dining room bc of coronavirus and I was impressed with the level of care taken to make sure our experience was still really good. Not only was the food delicious (as always!) but the server was still really friendly and offered lots of suggestions and it was clear cleaning measures were being taken. We love St. Anshelm!
St Anselm really redeemed itself. The brunch was spot on. The king crab omelet, best brunch item in DC. Absolutely superb
Wonder place for dinner, drinks or brunch. The pimento and biscuits cannot be missed. Extremely friendly and lovely staff.
Wow! My wife, daughter and I, had a superb experience from start to finish. We were greeted warmly on arrival and seated immediately (we had a reservation) and our server came over as we were still settling in. The food was delicious. We had the blue crab deviled eggs, cinnamon bread (huge portion), chipped beef and butcher’s steak. We loved our visit and will be back.
All in all, 4/4.5 star rating in my opinion! I went with my boyfriend for a night out. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. I liked the atmosphere; it's a unique combination of classy/bougie speakeasy meets American tavern meets rustic old cabin... food was very good; nothing that stood out among all of the rival DC restaurants except for the cauliflower, but that doesn't mean that everything else we ate was not very good.
Inventive food, great ambiance, and thoughtful service.
For three people, we ordered a $180 60-oz. ax handle of aged steak. It was tasty, but I've never received a fattier piece of steak in my life. More than 30-40% of what we received was bone or fat. The three of us were trying to shave small pieces of beef away from the fat....and I doubt that any of us had more than 8-10 oz. of real beef to eat.
Nice ambiance. Good service. The rest of the side dishes were good. If I go again, I will not order the "shared" axe handle and will instead order my own meal.
I would recommend the restaurant, but not the axe handle ribeye.
Love the food and the ambience. That salmon collar is to die for and the carrot cake is hands down the BEST in D.C.
