Sfoglina Van Ness
We ate there for our anniversary and were very pleased. The food was excellent and all the staff was friendly and highly competent. We will definitely return.
Delicious food. Very nice atmosphere. And we’ve never been rushed. Great place to gather friends as you can linger and enjoy!
Took out of town guests here to celebrate 65th birthday. Our party of 6 was put in a small private room which was very utilitarian and cold - we had to keep our coats on during dinner. Had lobster linguine, the pasta was delicious but the lobster was chewy. Since I had indicated the occasion on the reservation and mentioned it to our server, I had hoped for some type of celebratory gesture, but there was none.
I regret selecting this restaurant to host our guests - I had the impression that it was a great place to go for a special event and in the end I was embarrassed by my poor choice.
Too expensive for pasta alone, a mixed drink and a glass of wine is about $32 - watch out.
love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The pasta was amazing.
The waiter was intent on pushing various dishes for us to order and did not pay attention to what we had ordered.
Plates were cleared while not everyone had finished eating. Disappointed with the service.
The food is always outstanding at Sfoglina ... we have never had a bad meal..
We had friends in from out it town and there were 6 in our party and we had the good fortune of getting a table ..
You have to order Nonni’s meatballs.. so we got that to share as well as the grilled calamari...smokey and delicious.
It’s truffle season so we shared a big bowl of risotto with freshly grated white truffle ... it was heaven in a bowl. Then all the amazing pastas... carbonara, ravioli, with various fillings and sauces ... unbelievable! All paired with great wine ...
Our fiends loved it .. Another great evening at Sfoglina!
Oh my goodness! What neighborhood gem! Great addition to a location that was so in need of a fine restaurant! Beautiful and tasteful decor, lovely wait staff, bartender is amazing at making a elegant, sophisticated Margarita. Nice selection of wines. We recommend the Barbera for a good red dinner wine. Gluten free pasta options are delicious as was all the other food dishes we ordered: calamari for an appetizer, arugula salad, agli-olio, carbonara and the smoothest cappuccinos to end the evening. You will love this restaurant!
Lunch, dinner and of course, bar snacks and drinks are always incredible. A total "go to , comfort eating destination." And then there is BRUNCH! I have had the good fortune of eating in so many incredible restaurants, Sfoglina Brunch is the BEST BRUNCH and possible meal, I have ever had. I honestly could eat there every Sunday.
Great options, great value, relaxed, welcoming staff.
Anthony made our evening superb! From start to finish, we were made to feel welcome and special! The homemade pasta was like being in a fine Italian restaurant, the fresh fish was prepared to perfection, and the service was impeccable. A gem worth discovering!
Enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Sfoglina. Excellent service and food was amazing. The linguine with lobster was outstanding. Did I mention the service was top notch.... Will definitely return to one of the best Italian restaurants in DC.
The service team was engaging, knowledgeable, professional and fun! The food was fresh and original!
We appreciated manager Aaron chatting with us about the DC dining scene and our dining experience at Sfoglina VN.
Excellent as always!!
The food and ambience were terrific. Jaime, our server, was excellent. He was attentive and made sure our meal was was not rushed and guided us to delicious selections.
I have been coming to Sfoglina several times a year since its opening, and each time its staff has been outstandingly attentive and patient. This time the receptionist was particularly observant and sensitive when she noticed me, an elderly handicapped gentleman, sitting alone by the front door. She left her post behind the reception counter to come and ask me if she could do anything for me, like get me a glass of water. When I told her I was waiting for my luncheon companions, she volunteered to escort me to my table, where I could wait for them in comfort. That comfort was enhanced when I realized that there was no music!! How many dc restaurants are noisy because patrons raise their voices to be heard above pointless music that no one wants to hear? The food and wine were excellent, as always. Unfortunately there are very few innovations on the menu. I know it by heart. Like McDonald’s, I always know what I will get. The actual menu is an unwieldy six pages on a clipboard. The newcomer has to page through it like an old fashioned dictionary to find what he wants. It is an unattractive menu, way below the standard set by this excellent restaurant.
Our visit to Sfoglina was disappointing given how much we loved it the last time. The service was the biggest let-down: courses would come before they cleared away plates from the previous course, and the server stood there awkwardly waiting for us to make space for the new dishes; they didn’t know who ordered what; I didn’t like the way they added salt for you rather than letting you do it yourself and leaving salt at the table upon request. I also found the cacio e pepe mediocre: soupy, too much lemon. Really I could have made it better at home.
The food is so good. We don't usually go for pasta, but it is sublime here.
simply bad food that has nothing of Italian other than the name
Eat there regularly. Always great. Consistently great food and service. Each friend who accompanies me always remarks that they will be back. Enjoy!!
One of my favorite restaurants in DC. It’s beautiful, comfortable and the food is delicious. The service is very professional and the staff makes you feel welcome. But most of all, I love the menu choices and have never had a disappointing dish there! Bravo to the owners!
We went on a holiday nite and it was fairly empty. Food was good except green salad was nothin—very ordinary and blah dressing.
Lovely dinner and ambiance!
The lobster pasta dish is outstanding, which generous amounts of lobster in a delicious creamy sauce. Sfoglina's interpretation of tiramisu is equally unique and delicious. The staff is extremely attentive and gracious. The design of the dining areas and lighting at the Van Ness location only add to the experience.
We dined at Sfoglina for our anniversary and they were so good to us. They really made us feel special. They tried to seat us where we would feel comfortable, offered complementary Prosecco and gelato. It was amazing and I'm sure we'll be back.
While the food was very good — though most of the dishes, even the salads, were rather rich — the evening was marred by the amateurish service. The young hostess was frosty, rather than welcoming and she referred to our companions as “other individuals” rather than guests or diners. Our table had an ever-changing parade of wait staff, resulting in us being asked and told the same things several times over. Neither the drinks nor the food were delivered to all diners at the same time, and most galling — for a restaurant at this price point especially — one diner’s plate was removed while others were still eating. While they nicely provided a complementary birthday treat, it was plunked down in the middle of he table without much finesse. Overall there was not much sense of hospitality and there even seemed to be some sort of issue going on amongst the staff, whispering in corners and the like. On the positive side, it is not too noisy to converse comfortably.
The food was delicious and our server was excellent. It was the perfect place for a ladies’ lunch to celebrate a birthday.
Service was excellent. Manager very welcoming and offered free proceco when found out it was a special occasion.
We went there for lunch, the food was great!
Had a wonderful 10th anniversary dinner at Sfoglina. The food was as always incredible — the orecchiette with squash and sausage was especially delicious, as was the burrata with roasted beets — and the service was very responsive, friendly, and helpful.
Had dinner here with a friend - food was excellent as always. Service on point. This is definitely a neighborhood gem - will miss it! We move to Chicago this week but will pay a visit when we are back in town at one of the Sfoglina locations.
It’s a really fine restaurant with exceptional food. We sat outside on a Sunday evening and it was pleasantly quiet. Inside a little louder but I haven’t experienced it being too noisy.
We tried this restaurant simply because of its location and parking availability and found it to be a fantastic restaurant, one where we can't wait to go back. I built my own pasta: pasta from one side of the menu and the sauce from the other. Both my husband and I loved our meal and the wine was outstanding also. Very reasonably priced in a lovely room.
Delicious food in lovely surroundings with a noise level conducive to conversation.
This Italian restaurant is a jewel. Handmade pasta, fabulous sauces, fresh vegetables and salads. Lovely staff tending to your every need. Great for small or large groups with an open-air patio.
This Italian restaurant reminds you of the fine ragu you find on spaghetti in a Venice trattoria. Best seats are under the canopy or deeper in the back. Ask when you reserve. Servers know their menu to assist your choice . Wine by glass is a tad higher than most places, but the quality justifies the price. Desserts are fanciful fun and full of calories.
What a lovely brunch experience. Everything was perfect. The drinks and food were delicious. This was hands down the best restaurant service I have ever had. A glass was never close to being empty, the food came out swiftly, and the servers check on you often, and even the hostess was incredibly friendly and gave recommendations. 10/10!!
Great vibe and quality of food and wine! Perfect for a birthday !
We enjoyed our aperol spritz and appetizers (grilled calamari over polenta was terrific). The three pasta sampler was a fun way to try several dishes - the squid ink pasta w lobster was our favorite. Lovely service and ambiance!
