Great good , dinner sweet potato crisps, polenta (Should serve with?? It is so liquid ), steak with sauce. Need much bigger sauce servings, please.

We had the tasting menu. They cleverly gave us two different plates for each of the five courses, so we had ten amazing dishes to share. It was a lot of amazing food. A great experience all around! We'll be back.

Living in SD for 2,5 years SEMOLA is certainly the best restaurant we experienced since we left Paris. The CHEF , Daniela, cooks an amazing food with remarquable chosen products.
I recommande the Duck and the Soufflé to end the meal on a greta note !!
Maybe a bit pricey (especially the wine)... but what a hell !!

Loved it! Food was exquisite: interesting, beautifully balanced and beautifully presented. Heaters kept the outdoor space comfortable and the giant sycamore overhead made it feel enchanted. A lovely, lovely place for a special dinner out.

Took the whole family here and everyone loved it. The food is excellent and the wine list is well-curated, basically can’t miss.

Three of four dinners were poor. Small servings for big bucks. First courses took forever and excuse was their “printer was down”. We all looked quizzically at one another! Fettuccine was noodles in milk with zero taste and no cheese. We brought our own wine because their wine prices are in the stratosphere for largely so-so Italian wines. When we got the bill they had charged us twice for one item and tacked on a $30 corkage. When we complained saying other restaurants charge much less they said that’s what the owner set as the fee. In all, it would be hard for you to not do a lot better on food and wine for a lot less. All four of us said we would not go back.

Sauce for amatricana was too sweet. Pesto underwhelming, did not taste like fresh pesto. Very nice presentation and staff was also very nice.

Delicious pastas and desserts. Very nice presentation! Small servings but was actually enough. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly ,sorry forgot his name he was from Brazil.

We love the saffron risotto. The pasta dishes are delicious. The salads are extremely small…not found of the shaved celery, heirloom tomato, it had no taste and stringy.
Overall we are impressed with this new LJ restaurant and will return. We celebrated a birthday…they brought a nice dessert with no charge…which is rare for most fine dinning restaurants today.

I found the menu to be a bit limited per section but everything we ordered tasted good with the exception of the deconstructed tiramisu. Just do an excellent tiramisu. It’s such a classic, it doesn’t need to be messed with.

My wife and I came here with two friends for a get together. We settled in for an al fresco dining experience. The ambiance was great, and they had heat lamp in case the cold La Jolla night dips below 70. lol. We went for the 5 course chef's tasting menu, after starting with a bottle of dry Prosecco (great recommendation from Giacomo). I'll spare you with the details and go straight to the punch line: food was fantastic! And the wine recommended by Giacomo was also excellent.

Although it was a 5 course menu, there really were 10 courses because each course had two separate, complementary dishes. Unlike many higher end restaurants, the portion size was not small. At the end, we were so full and happy.

After all the great dishes crafted from fresh ingredients, we were wowed by the desert. It was a deconstructed key lime pie arranged as a beach scene, complete with sand, ocean, waves and a beach blanket!

Service staff was attentive and knowledgeable. No complaints there.

Overall, one of the most memorable meals we've had in a looonnng time. Just as a point of reference, we recently dined at a Michelin starred restaurant, and frankly we had a better time at Semola, and at a MUCH lower price. All in all, five stars all around. Bravo.

Great upscale modern Italian fusion in a relaxed setting - if you're well traveled you'll appreciate the nuance that this is a very different approach from the red sauce comfort food most Italian restaurants in San Diego offer. Much more like the dishes and presentation you'd find in Milan.

Interesting meal. The chef is really good... kind of reminds me of George's. The plates are pretty small but the food quality is really good. The service is very European, sometimes impeccable sometimes clueless and inattentive. I would suggest that it's not really Italian but eclectic continental... although I did not have pasta or Pizza which I think are on the menu. I would go again since the food is quite good.

Semola provided the BEST dining experience we have had in the San Diego area in years! It was amazing from start to finish! Service was impeccable - the waiters were so friendly and welcoming. The outdoor restaurant is comfortable and heaters are provided so its plenty warm enough, even on a cool evening in La Jolla. The food was beyond delicious - we started with the wagyu carpaccio and it blew us away! The accompaniments of pickled mustard seed, lemon pepper caviar and cured egg yolk were so unusual but really brought the dish up to the top! We then moved to the Panzanella salad which was so good - plenty for both of us and the dressing was out of the world. The Modena Balsamic reduction was exceptional! Our next course was tough to select - there are so many options that sounded so good! We finally chose the Saffron Risotto - OMG! I would eat that every day if I could! As someone who frequently makes risotto dishes, I was so intrigued by the flavor of theirs! The goat cheese wasn't something I would ever think to put in risotto but I will now! Just delicious! We were pretty full but our waiter convinced us to try a dessert since their chef is a pastry chef! We thought, "why not??" and dove into the tiramisu cioccolato freddo! The best without a doubt tiramisu I have ever eaten! Just exceptional! Our waiter then shared that they are getting ready to do a chef's tasting inside in a few weeks and gave us his number to call for a reservation. We can't wait to try that! I highly recommend Semola - we will definitely return & soon!

Very original dishes. Waygu carpaccio amazing. Mi wife had the halibut and was a bit overcooked. I had the duck which was served a bit cold, but flavors were amazing. Andrea was a great host. Will look forward to visiting again and trying some pasta or risotto dishes.
