Excellent dinner and service, as always. A little quieter than usual with many people out of town for the Labor Day weekend.

We had a very nice family dinner at Saola. Staff, location, ambiance and decor were all great. Fantastic menu....not too big or small, choices for everyone and a great wine and beer menu as well. My one issue was I had the signature dish, the Chilean Sea Bass and it was very bland. It might as well have been tofu. A bit pricey for tasteless. Besides that we had a nice time. I recommend it but would personally order something else next time.

We had a reservation and I called ahead to adjust the number and confirm. Restaurant was not remotely busy yet we waited a bit for them to set up the table. The chairs were awful skinny rod iron chairs-we had to ask for cushions. Food was good and reasonably priced for what I ordered. My friend did not like their food. Drink was fancy but overpriced. Cute decor and ambiance.

I recently enjoyed pho for lunch at Pho Thin, which is a “pop-up” pho restaurant within SAOLA. After speaking with the lunchtime host for both restaurants, I HAD to return for dinner at SAOLA. I arranged a business dinner for a party of six. We ended up being a party of five, but our server never missed a beat. I’m sorry that I don’t remember her name; Atina, perhaps? We started with cocktails. I ordered a Ginger Fairy and our server asked for my gin preference. When someone else ordered a Sazz, she knew that they meant a Sazerac and asked for their whiskey preference. When someone else ordered a Cosmopolitan, she asked for their vodka preference. Our server really knew her drinks. And they were all delicious. We ate family-style and started with a bunch of appetizers; Calamari, Shrimp Spring Rolls, Sichuan Dumplings and a Side Plate of Japanese Eggplant. Everything was quite good. I’ve always been a fan of chow fun, which is Chinese wok-fried handmade flat rice noodles, but prefer them “dry” or with very little sauce, which is often hard to find. When we inquired about the flat noodles, our server told us that they had three different dishes with them, the first of which was “wet” and the other two of which were dry. Hallelujah! The Chow Fun Flat Rice Noodles were terrific! I’ll be back for more of those. We also had the Vermicelli Herb Salad with Shrimp, which was light and refreshing. I had mentioned in my Open Table reservation that we wanted to try the Peking Duck with both steamed buns and steamed crepes, and our server was aware of my request. The duck was terrific. I think the consensus was that crepes are better. We ended up skipping dessert, but if I had known that panna cotta was an option, I would have ordered it. If you’re looking for a fancier East Asian restaurant with terrific food and drinks, SAOLA fits the bill. I’m looking forward to returning for another meal. . . and the panna cotta!

The food was delicious. Service was attentive. For me the music was a little distracting. Overall a nice experience.

Just what we wanted! The food was delicious, imaginative and cooked well. Presentation was great, service attentive. It was perfect to have a combo of small and large plates for a sharing meal, portions were generous on both.
