Sweet Chili Snapper
candied plantains | mango slaw | sesame | pickled carrot & cucumber
Sunday August 1st 5pm reservations. They where out of she crab soup, we where very disappointed and our waiter didn't know until after we had our appetizers and drinks.
I’m assuming it’s because they were short-staffed, we were pretty much rushed until our food came. We made a reservation for 9:15pm. Shortly after we were seated, we were rushed to order. We had two others coming and were told that they would not be able to be seated or order . We ended up having to try and order for them. It was just an unpleasant experience.
Bar music from next door was unappealing and made conversation difficult. Shrimp was terrible. Other dishes subpar
Server was, however, very good.
Delicious food. I had crab cake sandwich Ángels my friend had grilled tuna sandwich. Great atmosphere and Doug provided excellent service.
Food was amazing!
Just what we wanted. We were outside next to the bar area, on a high top table, plenty of room able to converse and enjoy the evening.
Attentive staff, delicious she-crab soup and Thai mussels. Will definitely return for an entree!
Excellent food, atmosphere and service but pricey.
We had to wait over an hour between our appetizer and main entrees. When they arrived, the potatoes had the texture and appearance of instant potatoes and the veg was cold. Disappointing based off of the good reviews for this place.
The food was relatively good but over-priced. The atmosphere was less upscale than the pictures implied. Overall not bad, but pricey.
Staff was excellent! David, Robert, and Carly were all warm and welcoming, and helpful with suggestions. The food was very good. Lots of interesting choices, with an understandable and enjoyable emphasis on seafood. Nothing disappointed but nothing totally blew us away. Even the space and environment were interesting and cool. The wine program is were it falls apart and is the reason we're unlikely to return (except for maybe some cocktails and oysters with David). First, we sat at 8pm in a mostly empty restaurant and were immediately informed they had "run out" of wine glasses (on a Wednesday night!) and wine would only be served in water glasses. Then--and here it actually gets worse--all their red wine is stored with their whites at the temperature appropriate to white! They didn't have a single bottle of red wine they could sell us that wasn't thoroughly and inappropriately chilled. We ended up going with a lower end red than we would have usually chosen and all spent the meal cupping our (water) glasses trying to bring the red wine to a drinkable temperature. It was a shame the wine program did not live up the excellent service, fine food, and interesting environment.
Got the Rockfish chowder, which was bit salty. Ambiance and overall service was average.
It was a really nice setting. The food was good, but not timely. Some food was served cold, some entrees arrived before appetizers. Meals were mixed up, and pieces of meals were missing. By the time everybody’s meal was corrected, it was late bad we were ready to go. We asked for bread and never received it. The service was mediocre at best. Felt at times we were abandoned. Although our reservations were at 8:30, and we didn’t get there until 9, our table was not ready when we got there, and we were not informed of kitchen hours and/or the limited capabilities of the kitchen.
This was my first time coming and will probably be my last.
The overall experience at the Salting was outstanding. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and couldn't have chosen a better place to have dinner. The service was outstanding. The waiter Doug was very knowledgeable and on top of his game. He was there at the perfect moment each time and never overshadowing. We would highly recommend the Saltine Restaurant for that special occassion and then some.
Great service, great food, and beautiful dinning area. You can park in the garage and get your parking ticket validated. I’ve been there twice and will go again.
Good service and food. Would definitely repeat…even with the hour drive.
Saltine is a very nice restaurant with great ambience. Shane, our waiter was top notch, very knowledgeable of the menu and extremely accommodating. The food is what I call “old school seafood”, in that you are served really good and fresh seafood without masking it with lots of unnecessary spices. Wine selection was adequate.
The Sweet Chili Snapper was great. Chesapeake style Crab Cake was good, but would have been better if the mashed potatoes were replaced by the carmelized plantains. The Chef should really consider that as a counterpoint to the spicy remoulade.
Extremely disappointed. Rude service upon entry. But wait it didn't end there. The waitress was sarcastic and off-putting. No bread was offered. Everyone had attitudes. The food was atrocious. The broccoli was like eating wood. Coming from the DC food scene this was an epic failure. You guys have to do better.
Food was fresh and tasty
Our server, Heather, put the experience over the top!
My wife and I are both "bar flies", so when we got there, we asked if we could sit at the bar instead of a table. And we did. Food was good, but I cannot recommend alcoholic beverages -- VERY high-priced for an almost one and one-half ounce shot, so my gin martini, in which I requested a second comparable shot, cost me $16! So, our recomendation is food, yes, drinks, no.
This was our second visit. First time everything was fantastic!!! This visit was average at best. It’s a shame, we chose to visit again for our anniversary. Left disappointed.
The reason for our visit was a girl get together to catch up. The food was excellent and our server friendly and knowledgeable. We all enjoyed our entrees of crab cakes, fan tailed shrimp, shrimp and grits and my bronzed tile fish was the best seafood I have had in a long time. It is pricey but was worth it. The restaurant itself is elegant and of course the hotel is beautiful.
The waiter was not good
Would never go back. It took about 30 minutes to order drinks. When our white bottle of wine came out it was room temperature. The food took about 1.5 hours to come out. Our server apologized. However, people that came after us got their food long before we did. When the food came out the risotto was bland and my fish was over cooked. This restaurant is not worth the time nor money.
The food here was exquisite. I had the grilled Rockfish, with sweet potato, and a vegetable medley. The flavors were outstanding. Portions were decent, especially since I had had a gastric bypass, and was full before I could finish. That being said, I felt your pricing was a bit high for what I received. ($132, plus tip, for dinner for two, with no drinks). While I enjoyed the meal very much, there are other restaurants that are just as good for half that price.
Tanner was a great server and the food was amazing. Can't wait to go again for a date night.
Great service and ambiance, but the food shouldn’t be THAT high... most expensive date night my husband and I have gone to. Happy hour was great, but need to revisit the prices of your food.
In my opinion, the food is good but this restaurant is overrated.
Great food, great service and a wonderful time. It is not a quiet intimate setting. Loud and full of energy !
Excellent dinner in the board room
Food and service was fantastic and very nice wine list
The food was a bit overpriced for the amount of food received. I got the rockfish chowder and all of the clam and mussels were either empty or had very little meat in them.
Great food and great atmosphere
We had oysters , shrimp and the mussel starter oh and best she crab I have had in a long long time
Great experience for our Anniversary!
We are new to the area and found this restaurant because they have a 2018 Wine Spectator award. We scheduled ahead on Open Table, indicating our celebration of our 25th anniversary and my birthday. I also noted my food allergies. Upon arrival at 5 pm, we were placed by the service area and walkway. It was quiet as many had not arrived yet. We were not given the wine menu. I had to get a new menu as mine was missing and insert and ask for the full wine list. While waiting another server was pouring drinks into glasses in the service area attached to our table! If I had known this when seated, I would have asked for a different table. The server did note my gluten allergy but I asked for bread for my husband- we were never served the bread. The oysters were fantastic. My scallops were over-seared on one side and unremarkable. The sweet potatoes were great with the right amount of salt. The fillet was well prepared and tasty. Nice touch on the sizzling plate. The Belle Gloss Clark and Telephone Pinot Noir was absolutely the highlight of the evening. We were able to take the unfinished portion home, thank you VA for the ABC laws permitting this. And last, the honey creme brûlée was fantastic! Unfortunately, it was not served with the lavender whipped cream, so we will have to imagine what that flavor would have been. I am hoping this less than remarkable experience will improve once they get back into full swing coming out of covid. It’s worth a try again, but have other places to try first.
I really wanted to love this place. Perhaps my expectations were too high. The food sounded good and interesting but arrived cold. The char grilled oysters were just OK. Service not great; kept forgetting things or bringing us the wrong thing. Didn’t check on us. Overall disappointed.
We found the food to be overly salted and over cooked. Not worth the money.
We had an incredible dinner, superior service and all around a great birthday celebration!
