It was really nice atmosphere. Excellent for hanging out with friends. My waitress was the absolute best!
Not just terrible, but HORRIBLE. Let me start by saying that this USED to be my favorite restaurant. We have eaten here probably 15-20 times since they opened. A friend gave me a $100 gift card for my birthday back in August of 2020 and tonight 1/2/2021 I tried to use my birthday present to only be told “we don’t do gift cards, we have new owners... with a flippant, I’m sorry”. The food was average at best and to be handed a $125 bill at the end... well let’s just say, CON ARTISTS serving mediocre food and they didn’t even have beer on a Saturday night. How is this my fault? You should be ashamed of yourselves, horrible customer service and horrible business. I will tell everyone I know.
I just wanted to reach out to provide a better explanation for your experience. First let me say that a previous manager loaded over $13,000 onto gift cards the day before we shut down for Covid in March, so we haven't honored those or issued new ones since. I'm unsure how your friend could have acquired one to give to you one in August. As for the beer, we have plenty, but the CO2 line leaked and the beer company hasn't been out to repair the problem over the Christmas and New Years holidays.
We attended for dinner on New Years Eve. Upon arriving we saw they were doing a 4 course set price menu, which was not indicated in advance. $80 per person. The food was tasty, but small portions, poor/slow service, and incredibly overpriced. Dinner for 2 with 2 drinks each cost ~$300.
The staff was incredible and very knowledgeable. The food was outstanding!!
Our server was amazing! Open Table did not show that there was a preset menu so I was completely taken off guard with the $80 a person menu. I also didn’t care for most of the food offered. The filet was undercooked a d under seasoned. The dessert was amazing and I loved the mushroom soup. The beef arugula course was not good at all. I will say the service was great. Our server was so kind and attentive. The restaurant is beautiful. My bill was $245 with tip which in no way reflected what we had. Disappointed.
Service, food and atmosphere were great. Wanted to order just about everything on the menu.
Our waiter was very helpful with selections of both food and drinks and he was also very entertaining and pleasant. I believe his name was Jacob.
Just decided to treat myself and I enjoy the service
This is a really nice place. I have been here several times and will return again. The food was very good with beautiful presentation. For fine dining the meal was priced reasonably. We had some of everything: starters, drinks, entrees and desert. It was all good. Even with a party in the banquet hall the restaurant was still quite quiet. The service was very good and the service was extremely helpful in choosing from the menu. I look forward to my next dinning experience there.
We have been here multiple times. This was the worst experience. First of all it was “brunch” and the restaurant had no champagne. We were there almost 3 hours and left sober. The waiter was slow. Food was great but service was the most horrific. We had to beg for beverage service. Seemed super short staffed. Never got food back we asked for to be boxed for to go. This experience left me less than desired to return. Had friends in town and brought them for the first time and they hated the service. It was the most drawn out and slowest service I’ve ever had at brunch.
My dream came true tonight. I booked RandR for my husband’s 39th birthday on a Tuesday night right after Thanksgiving and the Iron Bowl and we were the only patrons there! Instead of canceling our reservation or closing early, they treated us like royalty! Jason, our amazing server, greater us at the door and showed us to our perfect table. He was attentive, kind and made excellent recommendations. We celebrated Witt specialty drinks and Prosecco. Both were amazing. We ordered the beef carpaccio and conecuh dip as appetizers. Both were delicious and prepared wonderfully. For our main courses we got the rabbit (pasta dish) and the scallops. The rabbit was such a glorious southern, soul, comfort dish. On a very cold night it was heaven in your belly! The scallops were seared to perfection and sat on a pillow of cheese grits with bursting tomatoes and artichoke hearts. After the meal we enjoyed chatting with Jason and Brian. They gave us the history of the building and a tour! If only this place had been opened when we got married in 2011! Every bride should visit this venue for a wedding or even rehearsal dinner. Brian said they did a Mardi Gras party last year and it sounded amazing! If he can have it this year we will definitely attend. Their outdoor patio is spacious, beautiful and has heaters! The staff was masked, as were we, and we felt very covid safe. What a gem! Thank y’all for such a memorable night!!!
Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate y'all and I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience. I guess you got the name Brian from the website, but he hasn't been an owner since the end of March. I (Robert Lynn) am the Chef/Owner and I was who spoke to you last night. Your comments reminded me to have the website updated though. I hope y'all will come back soon.
Interesting brunch menu! I had the seafood omlette and my daughter had the salmon both came with a side of mixed greens. She said the salmon was a little more salty than she liked but otherwise both were good. Our server was great; he even made her fresh squeezed oj!
We ordered what we thought was a desert portion of the beignets but was actually the brunch entree portion so was about $15.00, not what we had expected. Otherwise, very good visit and will return to sit on the outdoor deck for dining.
Had high hopes for this place but the food was just not up to par. Entrees are overpriced for the quality. The place has potential but the food needs work. The beet salad was an exception and was very good.
Our server was nice enough but not professional. The cleaning supplies were visible (bleach buckets, rags, etc.) and our to go food was placed right next to it. Kept having to look around for our sever, but at the same time felt rushed. Food took awhile. I do appreciate the social distancing, mask wearing and other covid precautions taken by staff.
Service was extremely poor. There weren't many people there and the servers never would fulfill request in a timely manner. We asked two different servers (ours included) for a condiment for a biscuit (honey or jelly). We waited 20 minutes and by that time... it was too cold to eat. The food was not worth it... we left only to go to another restaurant to be full. We rarely complain about service but this was the poorest experience we have had in a long time. I wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone... especially when entertaining out of town guest and wanting to impress.
We had a great time at Roots and Revelry! We enjoyed the food and the experience was awesome! We will definitely be back!
This was a relatively nice experience with a few exceptions. The server was very nice and accommodating if a bit slow. The food options were great and when they were out of one food option the kids wanted they brought out hamburgers there weren’t on the menu just to accommodate them which was very nice and considerate.
A few things that needed addressing:
1. We specifically reserved am outside table and I even went the extra mile to put in the notes that an outside table is REQUIRED for us. However when we got there they told us there was no outside seating and wouldn’t budge until we told them we would have to go somewhere else. If they didn’t want to offer outside seating they needed to take the option off and call with the change when the reservation was made. Otherwise they would have displaced a party of 7. It felt like a bait and switch.
2. The food was subpar for the value. At the prices charged, I’d except the food to be well cooked with exceptional taste. The poached eggs were over done and so was the chicken and waffles. Don’t get me wrong the food wasn’t terrible and we all left with full stomachs the same way at we would have at any average restaurant but at the prices they charge I would expect a bit more quality.
The overall experience was enjoyable, but we’re a chill group with half of us having a background in the service industry. I probably wouldn’t go back to this restaurant again for the food but might visit the bar to meet friends as it’s a really beautiful locale and the staff very nice.
Anniversary
The brunch menu is interesting; we went with traditional breakfast food; the biscuits were cold and the grits are loaded with garlic. The price is high for a standard breakfast. EXCELLENT SERVICE - outstanding in fact. But they could reduce the prices somewhat; $50 for breakfast with no alcohol. Kind of high.
The food and atmosphere was amazing, but the service and food delivery was a little slow.
Fantastic! Food, service and presentation were amazing. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I highly suggest the avocado toast with crab meat as a starter. Scallops were delish.
Everything was perfect! We started with the golden beet salad and the ancho salad, and they were perfection. I had the Duck and my wife had the mussels and it couldn’t have tasted any better. We sat on the terrace and our server, Jason, was wonderful! He was very attentive and even took us on a tour of the recent renovation of the building. We couldn’t have asked for a better night out! Oh yeah, the cocktails took the cake!
Birthday food was excellent. Server Was delightful when attending but was drawn between the other five tables in the restaurant.
I made reservations for my birthday brunch. While the building and decor is beautiful, that was the only positive aspect of our experience. We requested and they ok’d outdoor reservations, but then sat us inside due to all the tables outside being dirty. We received the worst customer service. Literally had to chase the server down for anything. It was 15 minutes before we were even able to ask for water or drinks. Then it was another 15- 20 minutes of waiting before anything was received. We were one of maybe three other tables there, with about 6- 8 servers on the floor. Half the table received their food 15 minutes prior to the other half of the table. When the rest of my guest received their food it was iced cold and brought out by the chef at that. It was another ordeal to checkout and had to individually ask for our check multiple times. Everyone was extremely rude, unfriendly, unhelpful, and the food or drinks weren’t that good either. A very sour and bad experience. I really regret spending my birthday here, as there are some incredible restaurants in Birmingham. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was decent but the prices were very high and the service was very slow. It took us about 3 hours to get brunch and cost over $100 for 2 people with a few drinks.
Nice atmosphere. Staff did there best considering the number of people during brunch hours. Food was not fresh nor hot and the menu is very limited
Jason was awesome! Great for brunch!
Met the kids for brunch, quickly seated, drink orders taken and off to the races. The menu was well conceived with something to please everyone-salads,gumbo, eggs, very wide range. Food was served promptly and staff paid attention to our table even as the brunch crowd started filing in.Lots of energy and noise, super way to get the day started.
Food was mediocre at best. This is the 2nd time I’ve tried it and equally disappointed in the food.
AWESOME! My friends and I enjoyed our brunch experience. The service was timely and friendly. The food was superb.
My boyfriend and I came here for an early birthday celebration and loved it. We were able to sit outside, had great service and wonderful food. We came for brunch would definitely return for brunch or another meal.
We felt the food was excellent on all counts with the exception of the fried whole okra. Nothing special about that. Breading was average. Not that good.
However, everyone enjoyed the main courses. They were fantastic. Ambiance is nice too.
Excellent food, drinks, service. and overall experience. Appreciate the terrace dining as our outdoor options are fairly limited in BHM. Look forward to returning.
Always great service and food. I had the lamb and it was cooked perfectly. The accompanying stuffed tomato and potatoes almost upstaged the lamn, but not quite. We eat downtown frequently and this is in top 3.
Roots and Revelry always grants an amazing experience! The staff makes you feel like family! My mother and I enjoyed this visit! I also enjoyed the visit the weekend before, and I have an upcoming visit this week!
Our first experience and it was memorable!!! We will return soon. Our server Jason was amazing
My girlfriend and I decided to visit R&R for her birthday this past Saturday and there just so happened to be a wedding in the event space while the alabama game was ongoing. As you might expect this brought its own level of croud noise with it, though it would be a disservice to say that affected the experience. The food wait staff and environment is as exceptional as they come in birmingham. R&R will continue to be a favorite for me regardless of volume. We even had the pleasure of being waited on by Jason, do ask for him he will make you feel welcomed and at home even in a high class restaurant. The service manager Phillip took the time to stop by and shake hands and went above and beyond for our table, and when we thought it couldn't get any better Junior one of the chefs took his time to come out of the kitchen and speak with us. I cant say enough about the quality of food quality of service and purely the quality of people involved in Roots and Revelry, if you have not stopped by you are missing one of the hottest spots in bham!
Overall great lunch, cool vibe, excellent bloody mary's. Only watchout is weird location, and parking is sketchy.
Food was amazing! Patio seating was perfect with the weather, and the building looks gorgeous from there too! Our food order was misplaced in the system and so we had a long wait until the new order was made. To make up for that our server brought us a bottle of champagne and strawberry purée for mimosas on the house! Excellent service! We will be back next time we visit Birmingham!
Food was great. Patio is perfect for the current "pandemic" season.
Problem was servers....took over 15 min to get water...longer for everything.
They clearly did not have enough people working.
Will go back...will expect better.
