Enjoyed a nice lunch at Rocks 21. Food was tasty, service was excellent, beautiful view
Great time at ROCKS21! There was a band playing and we were sitting nearby so obviously loud but we were offered a quieter seat in the dining room area so no worries there. Great food, drinks, and service! Definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Mystic!
I live in the area and enjoy going here to relax and enjoy the food and music
Wonderful staff and food is so good
We had reservations for dinner. We weren't permitted to eat in the dining room. The tavern had a guy playing guitar (terrible) at way too high a volume. We were seated in another "dining room" that was more like a hallway with very bright can lighting. It was cold (a door opens to the deck and the weather was just cold enough to be unpleasant. The room didn't feel heated.
We ordered an appetizer (artichoke dip) that came out cold (never fully heated). We sent it back. It returned no better (and not new). Little in the way of apology. My daughters flat bread pizza was burned and she didn't enjoy it. My seafood dish had overcooked shrimp and lobster.
They discounted our meal by half the cost of the appetizer. Really? Just eat the cost!
We will be returning to the area many times in the next four years. We'll never go back here. You shouldn't either.
Went there for dinner on annual college visit with daughter. They are definitely in a state of transition from what was once fine dining to a more contemporary vibe. They haven't hit it quite right yet. It's been revamped since it was Harbor House. More casual, with a focus on the large bar. We sat in the dining area which lacks ambiance but has a great view. Food was OK, but not great. They do seafood well. I had NE clam chowder and a scallops and risotto special. The scallops were great, the risotto under cooked. My family enjoyed their meal, but we were glad we sat in the dining area because there was live music in the bar and we would not have been able to talk to each other otherwise. They seem to be the happening place in Mystic. My family enjoyed their meals, flatbread pizza (ok, a little burnt), chicken wrap sandwich, fish and chips. Large portions. Desert was key lime pie with an odd blueberry drizzle. Coffee at end was luke warm. Go for the bar and the nightlife, not the food.
Drinks where very good
Huge array of craft beers on tap
Rocks 21 offers a beautiful setting, great food and drink and live music on the weekends. We had several appetizers that were all delicious and the manager came over several times to make sure we were all happy. Our server, April, was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere with an acoustic duo playing, outdoor dining and fire pits after sunset. A perfect spot to spend a beautiful night at the end of a great summer. Highly recommend!
Very strange outdoor area.
Delicious food, good service.
The waiter was great - professional, helpful, pleasant. The food was not very tasty. My son who loves pizza and was excited to have the flat bread, would not have more then two bites. Great location, but the food needs improvements. As we were walking out, one of the cooks was outside of the kitchen door smoking - not want you want to see.
Menu- I looked at the menu on their website and saw a few good options and decided to go, but when we got there NONE of those options were available. The available menu is mediocre at bet, although it what we eventually settled on was well prepared. Outside deck is nice and our server was friendly. As a local, I would have to say that there are far better options in Mystic for the money and very basic fare.
At one point, this was an upscale establishment.. lodging and dining. The place seems a little run down and showing it’s age. The servers were young and inexperienced, showing little to no concern about whether or not we had what we needed, and the food was just okay. But the outdoor dining area is nice.
Steve our waiter was wonderful
Pleasant and professional
Thank you Steve!
Will definitely be back as I’m from thenarea
Very happy to hear that Steve made a great impression- he is an outstanding guy/server (this is not Steve writing this...). We'll look for you soon.
I actually felt bad for this establishment. They have a decent location and potentially great ambiance. However, the food was so abysmal that I can't even begin to properly describe it. Soggy "crab" cakes that were mostly filler. The completely wrong wine. A "salad" that supposedly had leeks in it. No leeks. We eventually got the right wine, drank that and left the rest of the food there. The manager did try to ask if anything was wrong. I didn't even have the heart at the time to say anything. I simply paid and left. I hope for their sakes that they can improve. But you might want to just avoid this place for now. Alas.
Dinner was really good, appreciated the chef accommodated our vegetarian friends special request. We will definitely returning and look forward to the new menu.
We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. Hope to see you and your friends again soon.
You can’t beat the view off their deck and the bar downstairs is fun! A little more attention to detail on the final execution of the food & they’ll be hitting a home run here!!
Thank you for your comments- they are certainly being taken to heart. Hopefully we'll see you again soon and can impress you with the last few items you felt were missing.
My husband and I booked reservations for our wedding anniversary. The first thing we see when we walked in the restaurant was a lit up raindeer, lit up Christmas tree and lit up Christmas wreath on the wall. This is July! Just strange. The food was prepared well and our waiter was professional. However, there were bread dishes on the table but no bread was served. I have never experienced that ever in a restaurant. Water was not on the table either or offered. Also, no dinner music was playing over head and the table next to us was very loud. A little music over head would have made it better. There were some candles on some of the tables but none were lit and our table had none. There was also two big lanterns on the fireplace mantel that also was not lit. It's the little things like ambiance that would have made a special night much nicer and worth the money. I feel like the employees were there to do a job and serve a meal but didn't care about the customer expirience. For the price of the dinner I just don't feel like it was worth the experience.
We had dined at this restaurant prior to the new management. The restaurant service staff tried to offset the poor menu availability, service time for food and the total poor communication between the kitchen and wait staff. We will never return - the $400+ price tag was not worth the experience.
This restaurant does not rise to the top in the Mystic CT. Area. The lobster rolls were good but the steaks were not that good. Quite stringy.
Sitting on the deck offers beautiful views of the water. Food was ok, would not recommend the filet steak, very tough. Shrimp scampi with pasta was very good.
Nice location. The food was only fair to good. And the chairs and tables were very beat and wobbly. They can do so much better than this. The sign was all the restaurants in Mystic were booked solid, but this place was very empty.
Awesome location and patio. Great view. Scallops were good, but not amazing. Fig prosciuto Pizza was amazing. Outside bar was really cool but needs some finer touches. Seems like a new place with phenomenal views that needs just a touch more finesse to be great
Excellent meal, unbeatable location, fun live music - what more could one ask for?
Very disappointed in what could have been a good experience. Location was excellent as views of the harbor from all points of the restaurant were quite attractive. Messed up orders, soggy salads, over cooked yet cool to the touch grilled fish among a multitude of other food maladies. Much of this stemmed from extraordinarily poor service. I am certain my meal would have good were it not sitting out for who knows how long. They took away service ware with appetizer and never replaced it. We scavenged from other tables that were unoccupied because we could not find a server. I chased down the bartender to get our bill because the server was off covering some other area of the restaurant.
I would not waste a moment thinking about giving the place your money unless you were planning on sitting at the bar. The bartender seemed quite capable.
The only positive was the calamari which was properly prepared and hot. The sauce was also enjoyable.
Other than that save your money and go back into town and enjoy another establishment.
Food was very good. The menu however could have had a few more options
Food was very good, outside seating has such a great view.
Expensive, beautiful location and so much potential, but the food is okay, nothing great and although I wanted to love it there, I’ll probably not go back. Asked to sit outside, was told outside was closed, people behind us five minutes later got seated outside. We were the only customers for the bar and our order got screwed up. They just don’t completely have it together there yet
There are three places to sit but when making a reservation, no choices were offered. It took a while to get our drinks. Entres came out while we were still eating our salads. Pizza had no tomato sauce. No tartar sauce for the fish and chips. Rib eye had lots of fat gristle.
We went to Rocks 21 for our anniversary. We were highly disapointed in the change since the Harbor House. The food was bland and greasy. The atmosphere was lack luster and overall experience was not near the quality of our previous visits.
Glad we sat in the lower dining room away from the bar. It was quiet and more relaxing. Our meal was good, however, my husband's petite filet was a bit undercooked & was chewy. I had the salmon which was good but probably will not order again. The nachos were very good as an appetizer.
We probably will return one more time but not order the same entrees. We will give it a second try just to be fair..
Thai chili wings could have been warmer. No celery or carrot sticks. Vermont burger was delicious
Possibly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.
Went with a party of 8 & was told we had to wait a half hour to be seated even with our reservation.
Food was decent. My daughters Mac N Cheese was way overpriced & tasted like they were from a box. Pizza was comparable to something from the frozen section of a grocery store.
Our drinks took forever & were comped but the waitress reminded me of this forgetting that we had to wait forever & we had to flag the manager to finally get them.
I did like my wings & would try again if I heard they improve on their customer service. Opening on Memorial Day Weekend is challenging but still no excuse for horrible service & subpar food.
We had a reservation for a restaurant that ended up not existing for Mother’s Day it was a huge letdown
