Our dining experience at L’Ostal was *fantastique*. Servers were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. Food was remarkable—we started with the three cheeses, each had a pasta dish, and finished with an affogato. Highly recommend 🤩
This restaurant is an excellent, new addition to our choices in Darien. The chef is creative, food interesting. That being said, it’s fairly expensive, so not an everyday choice for us. Rain can come in on the sides of outdoor tent, on occasion, but nice to have the outdoor option. Staff is professional and attention. 👍🏻
Delicious food with amiable service! We'll certainly be back.
Great food. Great service. Very expensive. Would only go for a special occassion
All good. Outstanding restaurant with an extremely nice knowledgeable sommelier/owner
Awesome spot hands down one of the best places around
I loved it! The food was super fresh and delicious. Such a welcome addition to CT.
Incredible new spot in Darien. Perfect for date night!
This was our second visit and this experience was even better than the first. A truly unique menu, and a wonderful alternative to a sea of sameness in Darien. Highly recommend, and well worth the trip!
Great all around. Our friends loved it too.
Best in Darien, great addition to the Fairfield county dinning scene.
This is a gem that rivals the best of Paris New York or Rome. Polished service, interesting and excellent menu, and an impressive wine list
Though the menu is short, it is beautifully designed for sharing. There is a special for each of the 4 categories, and the ideal experience is found by sharing 1 dish per couple for each category. Everything was delicious and beautifully prepared, and the service was attentive and skilled. The chef's team has been with him for years, and it is apparent in the teamwork that is very visible here.
One of the best meals we have had in a long time! Wine list, hospitality, and food are insane. Do not miss!
As usual great all around. Food, wine and service is stellar. Consistently excellent.
One tiny issue for us was the music choice and speaker which was very loud, right near our table. I’m not sure who picks the music but it did not seem to enhance the atmosphere.
But I’ll be back for sure!
Excellent restaurant. The menu, food, service, wine list are all really outstanding. The chef and general manager have really thought out how they want the dining experience to work and they have done so really successfully. The food is that extra level of good. We had a lobster special for example that was cooked in a hard pastry shell and had a light red sauce. Lots of flavor. My son had a fluke crudo as a starter that was also really good. The pacing and service were just right. Places that have 2 seatings can rush the early dinners. Not the case here. The wine list covers a lot of ground and provides a lot of good choices at a broad price range. This is one of the best restaurants in Fairfield County. Great to have it in Darien. This is a special place. Hope they can sustain it and hope they develop a strong following.
L'Ostal brings NYC quality, innovation, and chic to Darien. A delightful little place with warm, attentive service and a menu that intrigues and ultimately delights.
Had a wonderful dining experience. Absolutely no complaints.
L'Ostal is a real find in Darien, management and ownership have done a good thing for residents by providing a unique relais for those seeking a little bit of learned French technique in the kitchen and creativity in the menu planning. We dined on the Escargot, marinated olives, a rare fluke crudo (think French version of prime sushi), one of the smoothest duck pate's I've had anywhere, gazpacho, provencale garden veggies, lightly seasoned creamy potato gnocchi, tagliatelle with roasted mushrooms, asparagus, and grana pandana, along with a perfectly prepared and served Colorado lamb shank confit.
The staff and the owner couldn't have been more helpful, and all but a lobster special were priced moderately and competitively with other local quality dinner spots. Both popular and Fair, along with a hefty list of exotic selections, complement the wine list.
As a commercial enterprise, couldn't think of anything they should have done or could have done to make dining at L'Ostal any better.
A must do in Darien.
We had a wonderful meat at L’Ostal. The food was delicious and they went out of their way to accommodate some oddball requests in celebration of a 50th birthday. Cannot say enough good things about both the restaurant and staff.
Service was impeccable - warm, friendly, and attentive. Food was fresh and inventive. The only thing missing was a chocolate dessert!
The service was friendly and professional, the wine list interesting - I particularly liked the Wine Pour of the Night (a Sancerre Pinot Noir), the menu fascinating, the food outstanding - I particularly liked the Moroccan style trout, the ambience was as good as one can expect when it's raining, and the experience outstanding. I will be returning. It is extremely heartening to have a restaurant the caliber of L'Ostal in Darien!
The food was excellent but our server seemed to be struggling with getting our order down and we had to ask other waitstaff to confirm or help. When you are going out for a dinner at this price point you expect the service to get top notch.
It was a wonderful experience and the food is exceptional!
L'Ostal was terrific! The menu was thoughtful, the ingredients and dishes superb. They have a wonderful wine list and delicious cocktails. The service was spot on. It is a breath of fresh air to have a restaurant of this quality in the suburbs.
Small but well curated menu. Terrific service and delicious food. My only complaint was the challenge of securing a reservation!
The food and service were top-notch save for the vichysoisse, which although quite good, tasted nothing like classic vichysoisse. It was rather thin and a pretty shade of green with an herbal flavor, thus it did not resemble vichysoisse. This was surprising given that the oeufs mayonnaise tasted exactly like the dish served in every French bistrot—delicious! The rest of the meal was excellent as well: the trout with white asparagus and the tagliatelle with wild mushrooms. Also impressive was the “Nightly Pour,” the wine special of the night (a lovely, complex rosé, darker in color than most and perfectly chilled).
Very sophisticated eating in our backyard. The appetizers and entrees were great.
This is a place if you want a very good meal in a more casual setting and don't mind a more expensive night out. I couldn't fault any of the items we ate (salad and daily fish special for me, onion tart and pasta for my wife). Service was slow, but that's likely just a function of the difficulty many restaurants are currently having finding service professionals. Wine list is varied and eclectic with good choices across the whole price spectrum. Menu is limited, but that is by design. They were especially attentive to allergies, which was much appreciated. I'd return.
Awesome to have a high quality restaurant in the area especially in Darien like Graybarns. One small thing is that both my friend and I felt the waiter was trying to “sell” us on more food. I’ve never felt like that at a restaurant…it was kind of weird.
Good wine, nice starters and delicious pasta. The entrees we saw looked very intriguing. We can't wait to go back and sample more of the items on the menu.
The best new spot in Connecticut. Service, courses, and teamwork were all five star execution in a very unassuming setting. Such an easy and charming evening. The staff balanced the perfect blend of engagement with invisibleness, and brought the best of Manhattan dining to Darien. On weekends, we live at our house in Westchester / Bedford, NY and one of the best parts of living in Bedford is being steps away from Greenwich, New Canaan, and Darien. We can’t wait to return to L’Ostal as all of the courses were farm-to-table peak season and all of the plating was memorable. Everything was perfect, down to the dishware and stainless steel straw.
We dined here twice in the past 6 months. The service is exceptional and the food is quite good. Nice wine list and champagnes. Full bar. The staff is very well trained and they take the food seriously. The whole experience is worth a visit.
Great new addition to Darien! Food was delicious, service was great. Not many bottles on the wine list that were less than $100 which was a little disappointing, otherwise great overall experience.
Hello, thank you so much for dining with us at L'Ostal. We appreciate your compliments on the food and service. I just wanted to point out that we have lots of wine bottles on our list ranging from $45 for sparkling, white, rose, and red. We also offer delicious wine on tap in our "vino di tavola" section where you can get a liter of white, rose, or red wine from SCARPETTA winery for $40 for a liter carafe. Please come back and try these great values on your next visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at L'Ostal. The service was excellence and the food delicious; it was a perfect night to sit outside.
Great new restaurant in Darien. Excellent food although small portions and pricey.
Food is amazing. Truly amazing service and really - again - superb quality food. From Outstanding San Daniele prosciutto, unbelievable Vichyssoise, spectacular escargots to most fantastic steak - rib eye, which was last night special. Fantastic drinks and great wine selection.
The only thing I will mention on a negative note was the fact that it was extremely hot evening and if your table is outdoor - there are no fans. It was super super hot. But the 90F heat was a bit unexpected for a May so I’m taking anything against the restaurant’s overall note.
Extremely professional and accommodating GM. Well done, crew l’Ostal!
The food and wine were both amazing. Really great meal. Can’t wait to go back. The stand outs were the seasonal vegetables, all of the pasta but especially the gnocchi and the stripe bass special. Must try!
We loved our dinner at L’Ostal. Amazing service - we were offered a glass of champagne for our anniversary by the manager who checked in periodically. The servers were on top of everything. The patio was beautiful and the food was really great. My favorite was the scallops but everything was wonderful. Would definitely recommend!
