Portside at Sydney Opera House
Food was not pleasant to eat.
Soup was near cold, beef cheeks were awful.
The fact that I made 3 calls to the restaurant and not one call was returned should have been a red flag. Very disappointing experience we travelled down from rural NSW to meet an international visitor.
Soup was near cold
Potatoes tasted raw
Barramundi tasted like it had dirt on it
Beef cheeks were tough and over cooked
No sauce in the chocolate lava cake and the trifle was really bad it was like eating slop
We dined here as a family group before seeing a show at the Opera House. Great service, delicious meal, lovely atmosphere, beaut view of city lights and harbour bridge.
As always the food is very nice. We had a show to see and our desserts came too late and we had to rush them unfortunately.
We liked the restaurant because as STC subscribers we found it convenient. The noise levels were low, so we could have a conversation with our friends. The food was good but there weren’t enough vegan options to choose from. Service was excellent. Provided more vegan options became available, we would love to come back here.
This was a pre-theatre dinner, so I did not expect anything special. However, I was surprised. The waitress was charming and assisted me and my guests with our choices for food and wine. Although it turned colder, the heaters provided sufficient warmth and ambiance. A pleasant dinner.
Disappointing. Pre-theatre dinner on a very cold evening - so with most of the tables outside why only 1 heater turned on? Asked if tables inside - was told that outside table only was available and that “they were doing their best” - later found that there were tables inside. Charmless service - a disappointing start to an evening at the theatre.
It’s a beautiful spot to show off to visitors
Thank you very much. Enjoyed dinner prior to Freedman Jazz Award evening. The service was very prompt and the meal was well presented. There was adequate time to attend the performance. There is a good range of choices on the menu.
We had a very nice evening at Portside celebrating our wedding anniversary, delicious food, good wine, spectacular views to the Sydney Harbor. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful pre theatre lunch. Service was good and food delicious. We will be back again without hesitation!
Food was very tasty and the wine list was very good
My friend and I both had the truffled orecchiette with cauliflower. It was delicious, and I loved that it was an ample but not unmanageably large serving (I hate leaving delicious food uneaten!). The radicchio salad was also very good, as were my cocktail - the pink margarita - and our coffees.
Awful ! Only people there. Food was cold and very small serves. Staff hurried us so they could close up.
Very unfriendly. Couldn't even have desert so they could close up.
Wouldn't go again or recommend to anybody.
We enjoyed a Pre-theatre 2-course dinner deal. With entree, main and one shared side, this is excellent value considering the location. It may seem strange to speak of the side dish first, but the parsnip with native honey, walnut & truffle pecorino (GF, N, V) was delicious and perfectly prepared. I also found the truffled orechiette with cauliflower polonaise very tasty.
Eat here a lot and the view is unsurpassed and food/drinks and service always good.
The only reason you eat here is because you enjoy the view and/or you have a show at the SOH to attend.
The menu is tired, I don't think it has changed significantly in over a year, it is expensive, the food is at best average and the service is patchy _ strike the right waitstaff as we did and service in prompt and attentive, but the maître de was perhaps the most disinterested hospitality staffer I have met in months. It fails to improve despite our hopeful returns every 6 months or so
We had the pre theatre menu and the choices were good and the quality was good. Service was good and friendly and knowledgeable. Very reasonable sizes and prices. My third visit and it does not disappoint
Have been lots of times before theatre and food always tasty and well presented. Service usually good
Love this restaurant. It's especially perfect for a pre or post theatre meal if you're going to any performance at the Opera House. They have a great selection of food, and given it's prime location, it's quite reasonably priced. The service is always friendly and efficient.
It was brilliant as always. My partner and I always eat at Portside when we come to Sydney. It is our treat to ourselves. Unbelievable view, small but excellent A-La-Carte menu, and great staff.
Perfect spot for a pre theatre meal. Pleasant, polite,Quick and efficient and I always make my shows on time.
Great location for a pre theatre dinner.
Good food but a little expensive though views of the harbour bridge make up for that
I loved it! Great food, service and experience.
There were four of us dining, pre-theatre, but one of our party was delayed. That was handled well - no drama - and the waitress kept her eye on us waiting for our latecomer to arrive. Food was good, though range was limited. Wine served appropriately. An excellent night.
Very pleasant pre-theatre venue for dinner with wine and friends. Will definitely recommend to others.
Service was great and the food delicious. Not much on the plate with the chicken We needed to order several vegetable side dishes to have a meal. The risotto was good
Great customer service - we were seated by the door with lots of foot traffic, asked to move and they kindly accommodated us! INCREDIBLE views and really delicious rhubarb dessert.
I would like to recommend it for the service, however the meal portions were quite small for the pricing and simplicity
We had a lovely waitress, prompt and happy in her work despite being busy with pre-show diners. The beef cheeks were sublime and hubby's chicken amazing (I know, I had it last time) They were a little slow with our food but apologised long before we needed to say anything. and we still got away with plenty of time for Madama Butterfly.
We often eat here before a performance at the Opera House and it was lovely to see some new options on the menu this time.
It was quite cold outside but sitting under a gas heater with the wraps was fine. My lovely waitress (sorry forgot to get her name) brought me a cup of hot water to hold in my freezing hands when I arrived!
Service, as usual, excellent and the soup a fabulous starter.
I have selected Family Meal although only two of us. No other category fits; need a simple 'dinner'.
This is our go to place whenever we go to a show at the Opera House. The pre-theatre menu has delicious options and caters to most. I've never been with anyone who couldn't find something. It is backed up by good service to get you to your show on time. The view is an added bonus. Its also easy to book online, so I make a booking as soon as I know I'm going to a show nearby. Its the perfect set up.
Food was very good.
We told waitress that we are going to the
concert at 8pm. Our main course only arrived
at 7.35pm Delay in the kitchend we were told.
Not good enough.
Convenience to the opera.
Great service from attentive staff.
Warm and friendly atmosphere.
Set menus provided good choices and great value.
Meals were attractively presented.
Staff were conscious of the time our show started and enabled us to have a relaxing meal with plenty of time to make the show.
Overall our dinner contributed strongly to a wonderful night at the opera.
Perfect for pre-theatre dining. Good service; great food. We felt as though we were sitting in a noisy thoroughfare.
A delightful experience before attending the theatre. Good value set menu and very tasty food. Service was attentive but not over the top.
We chose the 3 course pre-theatre menu and were delighted with our choices - pumpkin soup and chicken liver pâté to start, barramundi and orichiette for mains with apple-rhubarb crumble and chocolate fondant for dessert. IMHO the soup bowl used for outdoor service in winter was too wide, causing heat loss during consumption and making access to the last drops of a delicious soup difficult. Our side order of roasted parsnip was delectable and my Barra was superbly cooked and served.
Service, food quality, timing (pre-theatre) - all perfect.
Great peaceful spot to admire the harbour views away from the rowdy mess that is Opera Bar.
Delicious food and excellent service
We just loved our dinner. The whole experience exceeded our expectations.
Service was prompt and efficient and I liked that they had a 2 or 3 course dinner option.
We were going to a show at 7.30pm and our server made a note to ensure our meal was leisurely but enabled us to get to the theatre on time.
My kingfish ceveche was delicious and my husband really enjoyed his large serve of pate. The side dishes were really nice too.
I would definitely book again if we were visiting Sydney again.
