Porter House Bar and Grill
Our food was cooked perfectly and the waitstaff was very professional, as usual.
First time at this restaurant. I had the 9oz Filet medium rare. Cooked to perfection. I also had a side of asparagus. Very quick service and attention to detail. I will definitely return next time I am in town for business.
This restaurant is nothing like the photos you see. It has a very hotel like atmosphere, drab and overcrowded. The views for 90% of the guests are of some office right across the street. If you know this, I guess you'll dress accordingly because the majority of the diners were wearing t shirts and either jeans or shorts. I didn't expect it at all. Also lots of reviews talk about the great service, of which we had none. Our server frowned the entire time, was cold, and forgot to put our side orders in so we had the sides after the mains. The bread guy knocked a glass of water onto one of our party and just grumpily walked off. The sommelier was a tad nicer, but just a tad in that I think she smiled once when she brought the wine. Everyone just seemed miserable to be there. As for the food, the starters were fine except for the salads, which are boring. The mains were for the most part fine, but pretty standard fare in New York. The sides, once they arrived, were good. Desserts were terrible, the worst coconut cake I've ever had, extremely dry and tasteless, which defeats the whole purpose of this usually very dense, very moist cake. Cocktails were good and wine list extensive. And as for value, our bill came to roughly what I'd spend at a NYC michelin star restaurant. But since this restaurant rightfully has no stars, it seems overpriced.
"I love the location and views of Porter House at Columbus Circle. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The 3 course lunch choices were amazing and the Beet salad was refreshing. Service was well-timed and friendly, drinks were affordable.
Food was amazing, service also incredible.
Consistently excellent... visit after visit... year after year
Didn’t like the atmosphere people wore T-shirt’s shorts etc. felt like a hotel restaurant. Food was good.
We had booked a month in advance and when we got there we were told we had to wait half an hour because there was no table available
Outstanding porterhouse ; great Malbec , excellent service
For the most expensive steak house in Manhattan, Porter House proved to be a disappointment. The restaurant's design is not at all memorable and many/most of the seats have a view of an office building across 60th St. Nothing stood out in terms of ambience. Service was serviceable but not notably warm, friendly, or helpful. My wife enjoyed her sirloin strip steak and shrimp cocktail. I had a nicely done hanger steak. But the steaks did not stand out as any better than at comparable steak houses, just 20% more expensive. The sides were tasty. So basically, if you're going to pay that much more than at competing restaurants, you would expect something to stand out as head and shoulders above the others.
I never leave reviews, but I do read others to help me choose a restaurant. Based on my amazing experience, I wanted to add my feedback. Because of the location and an assessment of mixed reviews, I decided book a lunch for 6 at Porter House Bar and Grill last Sunday. We were celebrating my Irish cousin’s wedding, and I said so in my notes on Open Table when I booked. I also asked if we could have a table with a park view as I read in a review that might be an option. When we arrived, our table was right by the window with a direct view of the park. More importantly, the food was fantastic - most of us had Caesar salads, steaks, and cheesecake for dessert. We shared the onion rings, which were very good too. When the waiter brought our desserts, my cousin and his wife had their plates amended with “Congratulations” written in chocolate. The waiter never said a word to me about this, they simply took the initiative from the note I left. Very classy, Porter House. I’d definitely recommend lunch or dinner here.
I was expecting something alongside the incredible reviews, the photos on the website and in all honesty, the best steak of my life.
Whereas I enjoyed the dirty martini at the bar (immensely), I felt that the experience wasn’t stellar. The room itself was odd - the lighting wasn’t great.
We shared a porterhouse and a Wagyu between 3 and it was ‘ok’. Service felt rushed, and nothing special. We paid $250/head and it it wasn’t twice as nice as any other NY steakhouse.
Always a pleasure to dine at Porter House. Food wonderful. Service excellent. Managers always attentive and dedicated. Easy to return for another great meal.
I truly enjoyed my birthday dinner at Porter House. The appetizers - shrimp cocktail and burrata - were delicious. My entree, the butter poached lobster, was amazing as well. The piece de resistance, however, was the South Carolina Coconut cake, was truly spectacular. All in all, it was a great experience!
Perhaps the best steak I have ever had. I will definitely be back.
Porter house steak. THE steak in Manhattan! Expensive but worthy.
Delicious but extremely expensive. Good for a special night out!
The best ever crab cakes and steak I have ever tasted.
Beautiful space! Very good service
Wasn’t my first time at porter house, but knowing how amazing the food is, I decided to go back for my 10yr anniversary with my wife. Everything was absolutely delicious! The poached lobster with truffles mash is to die for! I had the skirt steak with truffle mashed potatoes, loved every bite! The service was as good as the food, definitely worth the money, and the view of Central Park is the added bonus. We will definitely be returning.
The Côte de Boeuf was excellent!
Delicious onion rings and fries.
The thick cut bacon was tasty, but too much fat.
Service and ambience were both excellent
Our experience here was absolutely perfect from the moment we walked in; romantic ambiance, amazing service and the food was the best we’ve ever had. Things can get a little pricey so save this spot for a very special occasion!
Very enjoyable place to eat for a special occasion.
Would definitely try again
What a delightful lunch experience! The service was impeccable and the food divine! We thoroughly enjoyed the view as well. I am looking forward to returning very soon.
Wonderful food, service and an extraordinary bargain for the lunch pre-fixed price mine. Bravo!
Best steak I ever ate not kidding
Great location very cool place
Everything at this restaurant is beautiful except the food. T-bone was chewy and dry even ordered rare. The skirt steak was the only food that was truly delicious. Gazpacho was bland, shrimp were chewy and flavorless, tomatoes didn’t taste fresh and the percentage of burrata to tomato was too light on the tomato. The desserts were the worst, for $14+ the size was HUGE but the coconut cake was super dry, banana cream pie had no flavor. The quality of food doesn’t justify the price.
We enjoyed the meal, the service and the view! It was a great place for lunch.
Great service great table and delicious food. Just moved into neighborhood and looking forward to coming back
Excellent food and service.
Beautiful spot at any time of day. Service and food are superb. Great place to dine.
what an amazing experience at this hidden jewel
-they took every opportunity to make it a special dinner
--not cheap; but, quality isn't cheap
This used to be a very high end restaraunt that has now turned into....something else. The chicken breast was dry...the kids meal for my niece was chicken fingers that literally only came with ketchup and they had NO other sauce in the back..kids..ketchup? Wow the variety...no good Fish..Just a disappointment
We did not enjoy it at all due to the fact that the restaurant cancelled our reservation. Despite my requests and complaints that I called its phone while I was lost inside the building trying to find its location inside.
We were treated in a very polite way by one of the managers and he indicated another place for us to have dinner but what we really wanted was to enjoy Porter House specials...
Next time maybe...
I had a reservation at 9:15pm . Had to wait by the bar for 25 minutes .
We had a wonderful time at PH. The steak was phenomenal. The broccoli with oil and garlic was superb. The baked potato however, tasted like it was from a local 7-11. It was lacking a certain kick. The waiter was okay, he helped pick out a nice wine. It was somewhat loud, but that just means folks were having a good time. The only complaint other than the bland potato was that I didn’t get our window seat as requested. With that, an 8/10 for me. :)
I have been an Open Table Member for Over 15 Years. I am supposedly a VIP member. My question is why does it seem often times I/We get seated in the WORST TABLE in the Restaurant??? As we where brought to the awful table I notice at least 5 open tables by the windows that where available. When I asked the person seating us if we could be seated elsewhere she said she would check. After standing in the dining room for a little bit she returned and moved us to a Proper Table by the windows. WHY Didn’t they put us there to begin with?? The server was nice but I think overwhelmed. The service was Sub Par for such a Great Restaurant.. The Food was AMAZING. I will return but I Will Not Allow This To Happen Again!!!
Ordered the porterhouse steak. First round came almost well done when we asked for medium. Second time around was borderline OK - but not the quality of meet expected for the price that is charged. My son had a hamburger which was great.
