We had a reservation on Sunday at noon. This was our first time there. Because we were a table of 2 and the music was loud in the patio, they put us at a high top in the bar area. The bartender was our waiter. He came over initially but then the bar filled up and we were forgotten. We waited a long time, complained to the hostess, still waited, and then by the time we gave our order we didn't have our food until 1:20. We ordered the Carne Asada which came with 2 small corn tortillas. I was splitting this with my friend along with another dish. We asked for additional tortillas. The waiter said they charge for that. Seriously? We didn't order them of course. That dish was good but the farro grain bowl we got wasn't worthy. They made no effort to accommodate us considering how long the wait time was. We wouldn't go back.
Love Playa! You should ALWAYS order the hatch chili spaghetti. It’s to die for. The mussels were phenomenal and the homemade tortillas are so good!
Celebrated Mother’s Day, with the boyfriends mom. Vibe was good, drinks were tasty and food was delicious. The slow braised carnitas is a must try, when there.
Delicious! The potato taquitos are the best I have ever tasted. If I had to pick my favorite cocktail served anywhere, then it would easily be the El Chapo cocktail.
The service was fantastic
This restaurants food is so unbelievable good . Nothing can come close to how good it is . We drive 30 minutes to dine here. However the plastic shades that protect from the wind need to be taken down or cleaned . It's getting harder and harder to eat in an area that looks very dirty. I begin to wonder what the kitchen looks like. Please address this problem .
Caesar was amazing as our server fast, good advice, super nice and helpful! Made it an amazing dining experience
First time at Playa Amore. Service and food was great. I will be back.
Came here for a birthday celebration. A couple of generations represented. One woman is a 2nd generation Mexican and was very excited to see traditional (and rare) items on the menu. The food was unique and excellent.
Stopped here while vacationing in Seal Beach. Fresh tortillas made to order, unique drinks and not the usual Ca-Mexican food. Husband had the clam chowder which he claims to be one of the best he’s ever had, picky child had Carnitas which he devoured. The adventurous child had a shrimp plate cooked to perfection and I decided on the spaghetti with shrimp. My meal was amazing, light yet flavorful sauce, enough for leftovers too. This is definitely a place for sea food lovers and those that appreciate eclectic flavors.
They place was very cold with the wind blowing that day and it was a challenge for them to accommodate us and my 78yo mother. The place was not even close to being full
Real good food for a real good price. Portions are good to share. Lots of choices and more authentic taste than the typical Mexican restaurant. Would consider returning. Good service.
We were very disappointed with the food. The chef has a great resume, and it gets lots of good reviews but the food was unexciting. It reads well on the menu, but is bland on the plate. We had the ceviche which was some shrimp with mayonnaise on a bed of cabbage, the octopus tasted like it had spaghetti sauce on top. Potato taquitos, salmon, corn and brusell sprouts were ok, but really nothing special.
Wouldn't go back.
Playa Amor is a very good restaurant with creative upscale Mexican foods. The only negative was that it is not well insulated , hence we were very cold throughout dinner and were eager to leave in order to warm up. I recommend this restaurant and also recommend sitting completely inside.
The food is imaginative and tasty. It’s very reasonably priced for the quality, and they ALWAYS deliver consistently good dining experiences.
A group of 4 of us went to dinner at Playa Amor on a friday evening were we had reservations and were promptly seated at 6:00 PM. The food was OK, nothing exceptional. Service was decent and polite.
Took a while to slow down the server. Once he got it, it went extremely well.
Great customer service but the food was a non factor.
Amazing food, great service, love the mezcal mule
The performer was amazing, everything else was a little disheveled
What a great find - FANTASTIC food! Every dish we tried was flavorful, out of the ordinary, cooked to perfection and served by our friendly and helpful waiter. It's pretty noisy, so not a place if you want a quiet, intimate dinner, but if you want food that you'll talk about for days, this is the place for you.
Why don’t you add candles to the all tables - especially the patio table - they need sine ambiance help- candles make a big difference and are a cheap way to enhance atmosphere
Keep up great work - we will definitely be back!!!!
We sat on the patio and it was SO NOISY. Also the lights are not on a dimmer. We asked them to turn down the music three times to no avail. We tried to have a dinner conversation with our guests but it was impossible. We quickly left due to the noise and bright lights....our guests texted me afterwards to thank us and said they felt assaulted by the noise.
Food had great depth of flavor, it was busy, but service was excellent. We tried many of the vegetable items, and everything was excellent, great salsa and guacamole as well. Would definitely go back again!
The menu looked creative and chef focused. The food seemed dry and more Tex mex than quality Mexican seafood that I hoped for. Servers seemed impatient at times.
Delicious food! Amazing staff! Do not skip the guac!
They have lots of gluten free options, but then cook in soybean oil. Poor choice by chef.
The food is always sooo good and the service very friendly. I have ordered the same two dishes many times because I love them and I have never been disappointed. The kitchen is very consistent and delivers what you expect over and over again.
We tried a variety of food, the guacamole, mole tots, octopus, enchiladas, short rib tacos, salmon...everything was flavorful and good. The margaritas were good too. I was disappointed with the wine options, but the margaritas made up for it. The wait staff was friendly, informative and attentive. We will be back to try more menu selections.
Attended a business meeting. We’re able to enjoy our food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere without it feeling too much like work. Not too crowded, not loud, good food, and great drinks.
Always reminding you they have a2 hour limit for dining..... what time they r going to close. Very unwelcoming. Feels like they r trying to get rid of you
Liked that the person who seated us told us that if we had allergies or had any food problems to tell our server and that we would be taken care of.
The 16 oz. Playa Margarita was outstanding! The addition of all 3 citrus rinds, lime, lemon, and orange, made it a special taste treat.
This is our local go-to restaurant when we want good Latin food and drinks. Usually we just walk in, but this time we used Open Table. We love the food and the the staff is awesome. The bartenders are very informative and more than willing to take time with us to make sure we get the perfect drink with the right tequila or mescal. No matter how busy it gets, the staff always keeps a light-hearted disposition.
Unfortunately Playa Amor canceled our reservation as they made a last minute decision to close the restaurant early on Christmas Eve. Since we didn't eat there - the review should not show 1 star - however in order to write the review we had to select a rating. Sorry Playa Amor. Our review just reflects our disappointment that the management did not make an earlier decision to not open on Christmas Eve as we had to scramble to find another place to spend the evening. We were traveling from out of town and would have appreciated it if they had made a decision to close the restaurant and not advertised it as open for business on Christmas Eve. Since we were in Long Beach for a special occasion it is doubtful that we'll return to Long Beach another time.
The shrimp ceviche is a must!! They also have live entertainment on Saturday evenings.
Four of us come here a few times a year. Food is always good. This visit one of the entrée orders was wrong and the guest had to wait quite a while before his correct dish came out. To their credit, the entrée was taken off the tab. Very good business move!!! No doubt one of my favorite Mexican restaurants!!!
Menu was a great variety very fresh
Food was exceptional, just disappointed in the service. I had a RSVP for 7pm, when we arrived, the host was on the phone and just gave us the "Hold on one sec" gesture.... that one sec ended up being 5 minutes at that point we were not even addressed by him, someone else had to come and escort us to the table. Despite our request for seats inside, we were placed on the patio under harsh lighting and heat lamps (I was really looking forward to eating inside)...
As mentioned, food was delicious, however my only concern is how rushed we felt while trying to decide on what to order, and when we finally received our food, felt rushed to eat. We hadn't had our food for more than 20 min when we were asked if we wanted boxes already TO GO. And I recommend that the servers ask before reaching for the plates, especially when there is clearly plenty of food left our dishes (some people do not like their plates being touched or being reached over while eating). After a long day, it would have been nice to relax and unwind over the fantastic meal.
I understand that waiting on tables can be crazy/busy, but I urge the management to remind their workers that people do not pay $100 tabs to feel rushed. Our waitress was even speaking rapidly, which added to the chaos.
I was pretty disappointed with the service, perhaps you were short-staffed, but the crowd honestly did not appear to be an a high census. I frequent Amor y Tacos in Cerritos often, and perhaps Playa Amor staff could take some notes from their servers.
Spaghetti in Mexican food? Why yes. Great hospitality. Wait staff was excellent. Food service fast. Very tasty Mexico food. I was not a fan of the mango con chile cocktail (I tend not to like spicy drinks), but enjoyed my margarita. The carnitas melted in my mouth. And the churros...I believe they made them fresh as that was the one item that took a little longer to get to our table. They came piping hot. I loved that I could find parking easily, but the restaurant does not have any view. At least the drinks and food allow you to forget the location is in a strip mall location.
The food and margaritas were unique and delicious. Service was great, too.
Food was amazing and service was great! Will definitely be going back. I also appreciated the gluten free labeling.
