Had a wonderful dinner with my friend. We ordered first courses to share. Loved the white shrimp and beans! Also the tequila oysters were really good. We asked for a not spicy version and it was perfect for us! We were hoping for a grilled cheesy oyster like served in New Orleans but version here is spicy but still very good. Its a bit expensive for a frequent local "go to" but will definitely return for more special dinners. Its so nice to have upscale restaurant in the neighborhood!
Nice outdoor patio dining, but was a bit loud and dimly lit. The food was really good, but the wine could have been better, perhaps we should have bought a higher priced bottle than the $33. Cocktails were exceptional.
Love everything about this place
We were really disappointed by the staff and their lack of organization.
Also lack of staff wearing masks.
The girls seemed more organized but they were inside!
but they only had one server on the patio and he seemed overwhelmed.
Granted that massive party before us seemed horrible and just loud
But the Busser could’ve been more helpful:
No shared plates
Waited well over 20 mins for our cocktails (a margarita & beer)
They brought us someone’s returned brisket tacos & then brought our order 10 mins later
The bread and butter was decent. Butter was not “churned”
The ceviche was in orange juice and had fully cherry tomatoes in it. I’m not Latina but I know ceviche. That was not it.
And the clam pasta took so long to come out we just got it to go because we were exhausted from the waiting.
And to top it off! I realized once we had left they still charged us for the ceviche even though we sent it back after looking at it. Didn’t take one bite. But I paid cash and don’t live in the area so will take the bullet but…
Take a deep breath and reconfigure the system.
Explain to your staff what every table should have prior to the guest sitting down.
Communicate better and maybe make the cocktails less complex so that they take less time to make.
Excellent service & food. Good choices of wine & beer also available.
Hidden gem with Excellent food! Patio could use a bit more of ambiance - some market string lights and candle on the table would be nice.
Great spot, food tasty, slightly pricey for every day meal out (for us). Nice date spot. Went for wedding anniversary which I noted in reservation, wish they had at least said happy anniversary for a slight personal touch.
Service was great! Our server was so kind and attentive, the atmosphere was cozy, but the food was lacking in so many ways. We ordered:
~ Fried oysters, which looked like 2 medium sized oysters chopped into eight small pieces (and overly salted)
~ Broccolini, which was hard as a rock (needed another five minutes in the steamer)
~ Potato wedges, which were the best thing that we had!
It just wasn’t worth what we paid for appetizers and drinks. Not sure if there was a shortage on the oysters last weekend, but we won’t be returning.
It was my birthday and the attention was there for our party of 10. Food was very well presented and tasty. I had the Salmon and it was really really good!! Others had the short ribs , mac and cheese, Coconut soup, salad was all great!! Awesome little gem of a restaurant right here in La Mesa!
Tacos were excellent for late evening appetizers and pasta was good. Service was outstanding!
The food is great. Beautiful wedge salad. The Sea Bass is amazing!
Very impressed with this hidden treasure. Everything was delicious from the shishito peppers to kale cesar to truffle dessert.
Would definitely return.
Check out their happy hour deals. Worth it.
Great experience We would definitely visit again
Great service, great food. Diners should be advised that this is not a gluten-friendly restaurant. No notifications on the menu, and no GF menu. I emailed to ask about that 2 days before our reservation but received no reply. The server told me they have GF pasta that could be substituted for many of the pasta dishes. Anything else is a gamble w/o asking the chef about everything. I had salmon snd substituted the farro for roasted veggies and it was all fabulous!
Our new fave in San Carlos/La Mesa area. Delicious food, great service, perfect ambiance
Our experience was really nice. The food was very good and dessert was divine.
Delicious food, attentive and friendly service, excellent menu selections. Love being able to eat on the patio, it's a little noisy from Lake Murray Blvd but didn't mind at all.
Our server was awesome and very attentive. In fact, all of the staff that we interacted with were wonderful. Unfortunately, the food was subpar. We had oysters on the 1/2 shell that said they came with two homemade salsas, but it was tabasco and another dark vinegary liquid that wasn't very good. The oysters were also some of the smallest I've ever seen.
Next, we had the short rib rigatoni. It had the potential to be a really great dish, but just missed the mark entirely. The sauce was weird and there was hardly any short rib in it.
Tried out this place this evening and was disappointed. Not by staff who were friendly and helpful. Not by the atmosphere or the taste of the food. However, when your restaurant name identifies what you expect on the menu, it can be quite disappointing when the oysters on the half shell are so tiny they almost slip through the tangs of the fork. Its kinda like ordering shrimp on your salad to have a spoonful of tiny bay shrimp added to the salad. I suggest this place take a hard look at sourcing some quality oysters if they want to purport themselves as an oyster bar. Look at that little tiny oyster at the far end of the plate. Was that even legal to harvest. C'mon Oyster and Pearl Bar, do better please.
Food was excellent and had a good selection of salads, pasta, and entrees. I think our server may have been newish because he was a little uncertain about on some items (how long the wine had been open in the bottle, and failing to bring a small fork and bowl for mussel shells) but, on the other hand, he was very polite and obliging and made sure our order was correct. Restaurant is small but very pleasant. I know their limited hours are probably not of their choice, but I'd love to be able to come here for lunch. Rare for this area, they have a nice bar area that we didn't explore but seemed well stocked. I would come back.
Good was fantastic. We were a party of four and had shishitos and Mac n cheese for apps and seabass, steak, crab pasta for our entrees. Everything was fantastic. The seabass was perfectly cooked and buttery. The didr was Israeli couscous and great, every few bites you had some heat. Will definitely go back.
Wonderful meal. We love this spot! Our waitress Linda was great and very tolerant of our antics!
Celebrated a Birthday with my co-workers. Our server was very friendly and attentive, made sure our experience was special. Food was also delicious.
Wasn't expecting much at this out-of-the-way place. Food was quite good. Service was slow, but some of that is due to staffing issues during the pandemic. Of course, one very loud a-hole kept complaining loudly about the service and the pandemic and the president and his "right" to not wear a mask... so unfortunately, this restaurant attracts some idiots as well as those who appreciate a fine meal.
Wonderful cheese board, salads, shishito peppers. Old-fashioned cocktail could have been better if it had a good lcherry. Waiter was very attentive.
Disappointed on the charred octopus. 1 tentacle. Kale Caesar not as tasty as it should have been
Service extremely slow.
Food was pedestrian at best.
Do Not waste money on the oysters.
We really enjoyed the food. Definitely going back to try more items on the menu. Our server Barbara really knew the menu and made great suggestions. Great menu for wine and beer!!! I had seen where some other reviewers stated "not fine dining" and I now realize they meant not a luxurious ambience. Not important to us, we frequent restaurants for the food.
Slow service and bland food
I've been going to this location for a very long time. When it was the Vine Cottage, they had great Flatbreads. They are no longer on the menu. I think that is a great loss especially when I'm not there for an expensive, dinner meal, but a nice meal with happy hour. I think their food is superb, but has become too expensive!!!
We had a pleasant meal but it was very expensive for what it was. The food was ok. The service and staff were great.
Food look “good” on paper but the execution was not there. Bone marrow was undercooked and had no flavor. The duck confit was dry. The book was really basic and everything came with the same salad.
The menu was incredible, we had the oysters, branzino and duck pasta. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a new dinner spot, they don’t have to live in the area, it’s worth traveling to la mesa for this.
Food was outstanding.
Easy seating friendly staff and fast service loved it all
The shrimp with Garganelli was delicious. I would highly recommend this dish.
Honestly, I was so excited to try this place for my 40th birthday but was disappointed by the service. I worked in the industry for 12 years and I'm pretty understanding but he was just bad... From getting the incorrect drinks, not having plates for apps, not getting drinks in a timely manner, and lastly when ordering my birthday dessert there was no candle. When another server happened to have one in his apron he stuck the dirty candle in it... I still left a good tip but I don't know if I'll ever be back again. Hopefully you have a better experience.
Absolutely LOVED THE FOOD! SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. DEFINITELY GOING BACK
It is too pricey for its location. Prices seemed comparable to restaurants in the harbor with gorgeous views. Our view was busy Lake Murray Blvd and Big Lots. Food fantastic.
Other than my fiancé’s burger coming out close to well done, after being ordered medium rare, everything else was good.
