I had not been to Orso for some time. It has massively changed. From a buzzy, vibrant fun restaurant with an eclectic menu, it is now little more than a second-rate pizza parlour.
The menu was short dreary and unimaginative.
The restaurant was only about half-full: no atmosphere.
Service: ok but lacking the old sparkle.
Food: very modest.
My companion had a steak which was so tough she had to send it back . Mine was little better.
The salad was limp and over-dressed.
All in all a disappointing experience which I will not repeat.
We had a lovely family meal at Orso. We were going on to the theatre and the service was very good and prompt. The meal was beautifully presented and I had the best steak I have a had in a long time at a very reasonable price. The zucchini fries were to die for! Reasonably priced bottle of red wine too! many thanks for a great meal for 3 generations of the Ford family! x
Me and my husband go here for evening dinner every time we visit London about three times a year, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is cosy and romantic, great friendly staff,we always feel welcome,I love the flourless chocolate cake too😀
My husband and I booked for 5.30pm for a pre theatre meal We very much liked the ambience. There were only a few other diners so it was not too noisy. For our main course we both had the sea bass, which was cooked to perfection and the tirimasu was to die for! The service was very good. The only thing which it lacked was windows to the outside as the restaurant is downstairs in a basement. We will definitely go again.
Lovely location and great food. The main waiter was great and really helpful. However trying to get service from the other staff was difficult. However lovely food made up for it and a special thanks for the chef in making a lovely cake for my mother's 70th birthday.
Orzo is an incredible Italian restaurant with authentic Italian food, excellent service and an exciting atmosphere in the heart of Covent Gardens. The very first thing one will notice is the atmosphere which is lively and young. The service is fantastic as we were greeted immediately by the host and soon after the server. The food was amazing, fresh and tasty. The plates are not overly seasoned so the natural flavor of the foods are allowed to permeate and cooked to a perfect temperature where the dishes do not become too dry. On this occasion we ordered the Sea Ream which was perfectly cooked, tender, moist and flaky. The location makes this restaurant perfect for attending any stage show as it is walking distance to all the theaters.
Orso is charming. The setting is a refined basement restaurant that is beautifully lit and laid out. Excellent service, lovely food (especially pulpo carpaccio and the lemon ricotta ravioli) and a good wine list. My friends and I met at 7 and we were still there around 11. It's a great spot tucked away from chain dominated Covent Garden, and definitely worth seeking out if you are looking for a charming lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.
I have been to Orso a few times and took American friends of mine early on s Monday before I took them up the shard for cocktails . I must say I was uber disappointed . One of my guests barely touched what he ordered and his plate was whisked away - at end and nothing said . We were only ones there and the waitress must have seen he did not like his choice . Surely she could have asked if he wanted something else .
I don't think I'll be back for that reason that's bad customer service isn't it ?
Unfortunately I think this place is trading on its reputation. We had such high hopes but they were let down by :
- the hostess that dropped the bottle of water on the table and walked away without pouring it.
- the braised beef that was over cooked
- the packaged pasta that was undercooked so it stuck together
- the negroni that was warm. I guess stirring in ice is not an Italian thing when mixing cocktails
Such a shame. But I guess when you are able to book on a Friday afternoon for prime dinner spot it usually means something.
I usually don't write bad reviews as I feel bad for the business. The wait staff were really nice, but …
We have visited Orso on 4 special occasions over 4 years and have been pleased each time.
The menu has changed, the choices reduced and there seems to be more covers but the food service and ambience remains good.
We will certainly visit again
The staff were really pleasant but the place was half empty - 9pm Saturday night. I was expecting it to be buzzing and much more "special". Apparently it had been the place to go in the 90's which may have been the last time the person who recommended it to me went there!
Really dull, living on its past and really a bit past it - so many more places to in the WE.
A really fantastic surprise...
Orso doesn't look much from the street and I would not be surprised if lots of people just walked by almost without realising it was there, but as you descend into this basement restaurant, you quickly realise that you are in for a treat.
Friendly and attentive staff (even despite us being very late for our booking), fabulous menu and superb wine.
Loved it. Will hopefully return soon.
