Olive & Basil
Little disappointed for my date. Drink was not good and food took too long.oh they forgot about my drink.
Food was mediocre. Fabulous view of La Jolla. Outdoor seating.
All main dishes overcooked
Amazing dinner for 5 during restaurant week. We ordered the Lamb, NY steak, Salmon, Kabob, and Pasta along with hummus, salad, calamari. The staff were extremely kind to accommodate some birthday candles on their dessert. The ambiance were perfect with the sunset in the cove as a backdrop on a beautiful fall evening. Plenty of shops close by to walk off a wonderful meal.
Food and service were really great. Had an ocean view on top of everything. Definitely coming back.
We had 3 different meals from the restaurant week menu. All 3 needed additional seasoning. All were very bland. Portions were good size. Wine selection is poor. For an expensive place they should have a wine list, they serve one wine for regular varietals. Cheap stuff.. The dessert was great.
Dined for dinner during restaurant week and the food was excellent. The three course pre-fixed restaurant week special consisted of an appetizer, main course and dessert. Their options were the best in every category. I will be coming back soon to try out other dinner options that my girlfriend and I saw looked delicious. It was a busy evening on a Friday night for dinner, but our server made sure we were well taken care of. The overall evening was Outstanding, 5 stars in my book.
Food was horrible. Maybe the worse dinner ever. Shrimp in pasta was raw. Chicken and fish overcooked and dry. Entrees were cold.
Nice waitress but service was slow because she basically had to work the full restaurant, outside and upstairs.
I never leave reviews but this needed to be noted.
Great service and excellent food. Definitely coming back!
I came here last year and was excited to try it again... but unfortunately was left extremely disappointed. This time around the food was rather bland. The calamari I ordered was not crunchy and had no flavor at all, my salmon was also lacking in flavor and the asparagus that came with the entree was extremely over cooked. The gnocchi that came with it however was actually really good. The tiramisu was nice, but totally lacked presentation. Overall not the greatest experience
My friends and I went for restaurant week. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. I hope to return again soon.
The server straight up told us from the beginning that they are very understaffed and that they are behind. So the honesty was appreciated. The entree was kind of bland, but the appetizers were good and the service was amazing.
We have a delightful dinner during San Diego Restaurant Week. We had a nice view of the Ocean from the terrace, and the food was delicious. We will definitely return!
Our waiter kept forgetting us, I think, thankfully another guy jumped in and helped us quite a bit. The food was good but I figured my taco trio would have just a little bit bigger tacos on it. It looked a little stupid coming out on that taco shell holder and the tacos were too small and were drowning on the plate. Only a tiny little serving of guac with the chips. My husbands New York strip was interesting… they tried. The view was nice just overall not a good value and we won’t be beach after the service.
Very good salads, portions and service
Waitress was extremely rude
Food was a bit pricey for the amount you got. We arrived at brunch time but they brought us dinner menus at 11:30 am. Been wanting to try this spot bc of the location but nothing too special about the place so most likely won’t return.
Food is pricey and not impressed. Service was okay but for the type of place I would like to see a little more formal service.
We have been visiting California for a couple of days and so far this was the most disappointing meal we’ve had. I chose their hamburger. Although it had bacon, avocado and other toppings between a Brioche bun the taste was simply meh. No wow factor at all especially for the calories. My brother had the lamb shank which was served atop mashed potatoes with everything covered in a reddish sauce. Again, nothing special about it. The shank was small with limited meat and the mashed potatoes were in desperate need of salt. I wouldn’t go back but I definitely would return for the A-mazimg gelato next door!
Food was bad and service was slow. Bathrooms and overall cleanliness was poor
I do realize restaurants are short staffed but at least let customers know you see them sitting at a table. Food, nothing special. We were disappointed. Would not go back.
Nice outdoor seating. Excellent service. Good food with their willingness to cater to special requests.
I’ve eaten there twice now. The food was ok but the steak was tough. The plexiglass around the patio was just gross and I almost wanted to have a bottle of windex and paper towels.
The floor needed to be swept. This place was one of the few that had reservations available. I usually don’t do bad reviews but it felt like the whole place was dirty. The cushions on the chairs were worn and nasty.
Food was mediocre to bad.
All the restaurant is dirty, floors-windows… even my silverware was badly washed!! On one corner there were chairs piled, which looked bad. The chairs cushions were dirty as well.
The food lacked flavor.
We didn’t like the restaurant at all! And it was my birthday!
My dinner was cold and not fresh and the service wasn’t great either. Don’t go.
Just all around subpar. The food was not great. The ambience is barren. We went there for brunch and they didn’t even have a brunch menu on a Saturday…This was my birthday and it was just blah. This location seems to struggle no matter what restaurant is there. It’s just not worth trying.
So dirty in the outside seating area. Glass and awning are covered in seagull droppings and a couple of the awnings are even burned. Online photos are deceiving.
The pictures of the food advertised are beyond deceiving; everything in the photos look fresh. We ordered the Ahi Tacos, the pictures show several slices of Ahi in each taco, real Avocado slices. there was a sliver of dry Ahi in each of my tacos. There were no slices of Avocado, just a very pale green paste that I could not detect any flavor of avocado. It reminded me of a powdered-add water avocado mix. The Mahi-Mahi was dry like cardboard, must have been frozen and old. Although the restaurant was accommodating with a bowl of salsa it was laced with old dried up cilantro and old diced tomatoes, the salsa tasted seven days from fresh. The shrimp over avocado were so so but what was revolting once again was the fake guacamole below them. I gagged on it while eating a shrimp. At least the tortilla chips were thin and crispy and the wine was fine saving my stomach from a nightmare. The hostess was very pleasant, a real plus for this place. And to think I paid $120, it only cost me $120 to learn I will never revisit this place until a real chef takes over.
Very diverse menu and EVERYTHING we ordered was amazing!
The food is average and overpriced. I ate the pesto pasta and it had nothing but pasta and way too much pesto oil. My husband got the falafel sandwich and it was dry. The cocktails were average. The restaurant looks so inviting from the outside but inside it is small and can be loud with the tables so close together. There are other restaurants near by that are much better.
Very nice restaurant. Above another one that’s below it. We sat at a table outside in the front. Nice view of the ocean from where we were at….our server Tracy was amazing. Very nice lady. Went above and beyond to make our dining experience that night a memorable occasion. The food was great also !!….Mediterranean style……thank you Olive & Basil
Great waitress but the food was decent but not fabulous. Good location but needed to be cleaned.
Dinner w adult kids…excellent service, delicious food.
Guac tastes canned but ceviche was good! Burgers good too!
Food was incredibly disappointing and VERY expensive. My husband’s lamb roast was flavorless, seemed unsalted. My daughter’s shrimp pasta was odd and not at all as described in menu. Taste wasn’t great, I could easily have made better. My surf & turf kabobs were ok but the shrimp was overcooked and they served the basmati rice dry. When I asked for melted butter, they said they didn’t have any, really? Waste of time and money. Clearly lacks a real head chef.
Beautiful setting and good service, but the food lacked significantly. Overpriced for what was received. No flavor I’m the kabobs, tacos were drowned in creamy sauce with little meat. Hummus was good.
Delicious food! Great service! We came with our friends who had two young babies and they were very accommodating. Beautiful views of the ocean too. Highly recommend.
Great place to dine our server was very friendly and attentive, the quality of the food was very good and perfect portion size. Beautiful views of the park and ocean.
Very bad experience!
I am so sad to have this kind of bad experience with our local restaurants. I took a family from out of town thinking it would be a lovely evening and ended it up a disaster. We waited 1 hour for a simple guacamole to start and when our food arrived after the hour it was impossible to eat. Salads were drowned in dressing and very unappealing presentation. I tried to complain to the waitress and manager but ignoring our table was the response. Very disappointing!!
La Jolla is a jewel to have restaurants with this poor quality.
Can’t recommend it at all
