Service was really slow. The menu is limited and we were advised that they were already out of two items so made it even more of a limited selection. This was at 1:00 p.m. and they still had more sitting's coming after us. Dined here a few occasions before their closure and the experience was overall better.
Vraiment bon restaurant avec une superbe plage et emplacement magnifique!!!
It is difficult to communicate with Ocean Grill. We wanted to add 2 people to our reservation but changes could not be handled through Open Table and the email to Ocean Grill was not acknowledged and they did not answer 4 or 5 attempts at phoning.
It's a shame because the location is outstanding and the food is very good.
Unique venue with excellent food and service, a must when in Puerto Vallarta.
The dinner was great but we felt rushed to leave, only there 1.5 hours and the bar was closing up, literally only had time for one cocktail and dessert was never offered. We would have love to stay longer and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The quickest dinner and rush out that I’ve ever experienced. This was our third visit and probably won’t return. We got there at 3pm and was being loaded back onto the boat by 4:30. Ugh not worth the travel. I also stated in my reservations that it was my husbands birthday and that was never even acknowledged. Such a disappointment from our previous visits ☹️
Excelente restaurante y sobre todo una experiencia diferente. La comida y el servicio buenísimo
Sin embargo si no conoces el proceso para llegar y hacer la reservación puede ser un poco complicado. No estás segura si te van a ir a buscar.
En el horario de las 3 te sientes un poco apurado pues están con la presión de cerrar por lo que si quieres hacer una sobremesa es imposible
Aun así vale la pena
It’s great place for that special occasion or unique experience. It can be challenging to get there if traffic is an issue. It took us an 1 1/2 to get there from the Hilton.
It's now 100 pesos / person charged on the bill for the boat that brings you to the restaurant! For the community we are told. What makes 60 people X 100 X 3 services = 18,000 pesos it is 1315 $ CA / day !!! Who's the community? Surely not the waiters who lack courtesy and who do not look happy to be there. The food is just right and the prices always go up each year. That said, it's a beautiful place, it's unfortunate that everything else is not.
Very good over-all! We ate here twice during our stay. The second time I had the chicken which was way over cooked and not very good. Stick with the Fish, Ribs or other items on the menu.
We were greeted by a big beautiful dog , and the not to pleasant gentleman who gave us our table was also our waiter. He was hurried and took our drink order brought it and told us to hurry and order food otherwise the kitchen closes in 30 minutes. The table next to us was not so lucky either. One person ordered a glass of water and he responded with it’s 40 pesos are you sure do still want it! Our meal was hit and miss, drinks were tasty, service not good at all. Panga charged us when we arrived then we told the waiter about our experience, he said yes the year before his boss the owner almost lost the restaurant because of a water taxi had an awful accident and the authorities were ready to shut the business down. He was rude and I asked him to take a photo of us. “I’m to busy” he replied, not sure later. We asked for our check by 4oclock his response was why you can’t leave for another hour. We did say “so why did you hurry us we never got to relax and enjoy our experience. I definitely would NOT recommend this place even though it a good location. Too bad hospitality is not a priority.
Awesome view, very tasty food. Very slow to bring your bill around...we would have liked to go exploring around a bit but ran out of time as a result. He didn't even come near us or to table check so we could ask for the bill. Wondering if they could improve the dock there for easier access on and off the boat for the more elderly clients?
Setting is amazing and food very well presented and delicious. Because seatings are two hours apart they try and get your orders in a little too quickly as we really wanted to take it all in and make it as relaxed as possible. We were there early for our one o’clock sitting and were done by two. That would be my only negative comment. A little less pressure on getting those orders in guys as your kitchen does a great job in getting the food out.
I have been coming to Ocean Grille for many years and the charge for the boat to & fro seems over the top. The meals are expensive enough.
We hiked in, it was about 45 minutes, and it was wonderful! There was a very nice, unaffiliated, beach where we swam, snorkeled, and refreshed ourselves next to the restaurant prior to our reservation. The food and ambiance were fantastic and were treated to two whales that breached repeatedly from our seats at the restaurant. We will return someday!
Love the Ocean Grill and an all time first! A whale surfaced twenty feet from the deck! Simply spellbinding!! Setting here is always wonderful. 3o clock setting was less crowded judging by number of people leaving on our arrival so very relaxed and pleasing day!!
Perfection: great ambience, spectacular location on a cliff overlooking a hidden cove; delicious food and excellent service. Your best bet returning to PV is by local bus for only 10 pesos.
I actually made 2 reservations through OpenTable for the same day just in case there was no communication according to some reviews. However, I was able to send an email stating that there would be 8 of us instead of 6. I also added the 2 confirmation numbers. And I received an email within 24 hours of sending mine. The food was amazing and delicious as our friend had said, "YOU HAVE TO EAT AT OCEAN GRILL VALLARTA!" I had the Grilled Octopus, it was tender and delicious! Some of the others had the special of the day, Grilled Mahi Mahi which was delicious as well. The waiters and staff were friendly and the service was great. The views - fabulous! One of the most enjoyable experiences I have had so far.
What a fabulous to spend the afternoon, absolutely lovely!!
An absolute must!! Excellent food, service and atmosphere!! We will definitely visit again.
Nice boat ride to the restaurant, with scenic views. The Staff and owner are friendly and welcoming. Quick service and fantastic food and cocktails. A must do while in PV.
This was our second visit there, the first one being a couple of years ago. The decor is gone, the Buddha, shells and nice lounge furniture. Very run down looking. The food for 3 people with one appetizer and three main courses and 2 drinks and one pop was $95 Cdn. And the worst part, they now charge 100 pesos a person on your bill extra for the round trip boat. It used to be included free in your visit.
Better places to go for a unique experience, I’m afraid.
Our experience here was perfect all the way around. We had the best ribs I have ever had, but all the food was delicious. The waiters were on top of everything and very friendly. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Probably won’t return. Food was moderately good at high end prices. Charging 40 pesos for a glass of ice water (not a bottle) was the final straw. Also having a Great Dane snooping around your table and belongings lacks appeal even for me as a dog lover. And they now charge 100 pesos per person for the boat ride to the restaurant. Also poor communication ability to make changes to a reservation, for which you must provide a credit card at time of making Overall just too much hassle for the limited quality experience.
So having the privilege of coming here in 2013, then slightly less so in 2014 we found it to be more challenging to get here and less tasty once you’ve gotten here.
Service is very regimented, food was okay, local is spectacular. Come here because it’s soooooo different, so you have to try it, but unless they up their game we’ll come once the entire time we’re here rather than every week.
Unique special place with boat to sweep you there and back and delicious food. I only wish there were a few more return boats scheduled so we had time to stay and swim.
We hiked into Oceans grill. They have a locked gate to get into the restaurant. We could not get any workers attention so we climbed the fence. We were early for our reservations so we were going to have a drink before eating. We were told to leave and come back at our reservations time. It is crazy because they were not busy. We hiked further in and found a wonderful place to eat and drink. I guess Oceans grill didn't want our business.
Second time I have been here and it was great. Little pricey and there was a mixup with the bill, but all in all it’s still great. We did the hike. Next trip I’ll probably come back.
Super ambiance, very good food, friendly service. Quite expensive though... 600 pesos per person for lunch.
We made a reservation at 1pm and came all the way from Bucerias, just to find out that the restaurant was closed because of big waves. We can understand the safety issues but they could at least send an email to let people know about it. When you book a table online you sign up with your email, so this should be possible.
Very impressed with with the quality of the food. The chef does an amazing job under what must be difficult, although spectacularily beautiful, circumstances. I had the grilled octopus served whole with a
light topping of kalamata olive tapenade..best octopus I've ever had...so tender and favouful. My husband's mahi mahi was also perfect with a light sweet garlic sauce and and an arrortment of colourful grilled peppers. Key lime pie was ordinary, but the cake con leche was wonderful. A meal we will always remember.
I feel like Ocean Grill is not as good as it once was. It is much more expensive than on my previous visits, including the boat. I would no longer recommend them as a must do while in Vallarta.
The food is terrific, as is the service. I do not recommend this for someone with a physical ailment that would impair the balance or strength. The water taxi is boarded by a ladder, and the boat is rocking and banging against the pier. You must also climb a ladder from the boat to the dock to go to the restaurant, and the first part of the dock has absolutely no railing, so someone with no balance could easily fall into the water and rocks below. Returning after lunch requires a repeat of the ladder climbing. This hesitation only applies to someone who should not climb the ladder or board a rocking boat. If you are able to do that, then I heartily recommend the restaurant!
We experienced a general drop in food quality and value for dollar. Charging for the boat ride is uncalled for. And 40 pesos for a glass of water! Our waiter did his best to make us comfortable. Your reservation system is hard to use and the fact that this survey is not available in English is poor customer service when clearly most of the patrons were tourists. And lastly you need a working telephone number.
Our table of 6 will probably not return after years of making it an annual event.
Great place for a nice afternoon adventure! Delicious food and great views!
Nice service....food was not great cold and chewy octopus and catch of the day nothing great and very small. The loaction is beautiful and unique. Too expensive for what you get.
My favorite restaurant in all the world. Beautiful, unique setting. The ocean grill sauce the perfect compliment to the fresh seafood.
Wilson is sweet.
Unfortunately our reservation was cancelled due to waves but we didn’t know until we hiked the 45 minutes in and then discovered it was closed. It is a beautiful location and we swam at the beach but we were unable to eat there.
Gorgeous setting and great view. Unique location only accessible by boat overlooking beautiful beach. Food is delicious as are the cocktails. So happy they have reopened.
We chose to hike in, rather than take the water taxi. It took us about 40 minutes and at times could be a bit steep and not exactly well maintained. However, if you are up for an adventure and have reasonably good health, it’s fun!
The food was fantastic, the view equally as impressive. Had the octopus, perfectly prepared. Then we all jumped into the water and had a nice dip before taking the water taxi back.
Highly recommend for something out of the ordinary.
What a fabulous find! From the moment we arrived and were whisked away in the skiff, to dining beside the ocean with the waves beating against the rocks, our experience at Ocean Grill was a 'wow'! Loved the welcome from the owner and the wait-staff were courteous and efficient. The music was fabulous too and made the afternoon all that more enjoyable.
