Mimmo's Italian Village
Mussels, shrimp, calamari, mushrooms, scallions, lemon, white wine cream sauce
Our homemade beef meatballs oven baked with whipped oregano ricotta
My friends and I came here for lunch. We sat outdoors, which had a great view of the Little Italy sign and the big red chair.
The food was fantastic. We loved everything we ordered, including the risotto balls, burrata ball, meatballs, sausage pasta and the house focaccia. It was exactly the meal we were hoping to get in Little Italy.
Despite the website saying there is plenty of parking, we circled fruitlessly for 60 minutes in a very frustrating effort to find parking. The restaurant told our kids - who were waiting there - nothing to help. Bummer. Won’t try again. Impossible to even try.
From the 1st time eating here it was decided that this was, without a doubt, our favorite Italian RR. Portions are more than adequate and haven’t had a bad dish there. The Greek salad deserves 5+ stars. It’s a must have.
We drive 2 hrs to come visit and never regret it. Out of all the restaurants in Little Italy Mimmo’s ranks best in our book!
I am very conflicted with this review. The food and service were GREAT. The restaurant itself is very cute. It feels like a piazza in Italy with changing vibes as you walk through and lovely private rooms for more intimate dining. We requested indoor seating because of the unusually hot weather and herein lies the problem and reason for the review. The restaurant inside has no windows, no ceiling fans and NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! I get that a lot of places do not have a/c. I myself lived in SD for six years without it before investing, HOWEVER you would think that a business that has been here so long would realize that there are a number of very hot days during the year and those are getting more and more due to climate change. The restaurant has beautiful high ceilings so ceiling fans would be a wise investment. It was uncomfortably hot!! Several tables complained and the restaurant offered nothing to make it up to those of us suffering. They did bring out some fans which at least helped with circulation but were pointed towards the large party tables which still left most of us with nothing but discomfort and sweat dripping down our backs. The food was delicious but when the hot plates were brought our it was hard to eat. Needless to say we did not stay for dessert and were relieved to walk out the doors to cooler evening temps and a breeze that did not make it inside. Disappointing because I’ve been waiting to try this place for a while.
This was my first time dining at Mimmo's. The service was great and the food was good. It was a date dinner and I was very pleased with the dining experience at Mimmo's. I would recommend this restaurant and dine out there again.
We hoped to dine on the lovely back patio featured on their website.
We learned that they no longer use that patio - so our options were to dine street-side or inside. Inside was fine - tables were socially distanced . But they should remove that back patio picture from their website.
Great food and service. One of the better Little Italy spots!
Large portion. Delicious food. Recommend.
very good italian food and environment. Not too expensive for the quality of the food. 10/10
Everything was lovely! The sauces and homemade pasta was outstanding as well as the service. The Tiramisu, made in house, was worth the trip alone!
Guests visiting us
Excelente comida! Excellent food!!
Outstanding in every way! The Pasta Pescatore was Fantastic! Service was stellar also!
Food overall was good. It was a beautiful night and little Italy was very busy. We were disappointed to see that even with a reservation our party of 4 was sat at a small table that would more comfortably fit 2-3. The most frustrating part was that a party of 2 had been sat at a 4 top shortly before we arrived (based on where they were in meal). That really was unfortunate because we barely could fit our plates and sit comfortably. Had this not been during a pandemic we would have been more upset and requested a different table. It was clear that the outside dinning was full and we did not want to be moved inside. Another disappointment was we requested lemons on a separate plate from calamari due to one guests allergy. Not only were they on same plate they were right on the food. Lobster ravioli was an interesting combination of flavors. The fried risotto was delicious and so were the desserts.
Love the staff! Great place for true Italian food. And place inside makes you feel like you In Italy.
Everything was delish. We sat outside and had a blast!
Favorite restaurant on the planet. So much bang for your buck too
Good food. Special of the night was chicken carbonara-excellent! All pasta dishes were very good
Birthday reservation made by my best friend and it was a wonderful time! I had the eggplant Parmesan which was delicious! Friendly service and accommodating, clean white table cloths, great Wines, set outdoor service
Great little spot, very cozy and intimate setting. We had a great time! The food was amazing make sure to order the charcuterie board, the stuffed pepper is fire!
Food and service was sub-par
We showed up at the restaurant and were told we didn’t have a reservation...i looked and sure enough I had made it for the next day. They were lovely and although crowded they made space for the 3 of us and quite quickly. Carol, our server, was great. My husband was hoping for lobster ravioli but it wasn’t on the menu. He asked and Carol checked and they made it for him with a mushroom cream sauce. Delicious!! Our food was great as always!
It was amazing! We will be back for sure!
Great food and service.
Everything would’ve been so much better if it had been served hot. The only thing that was a proper temperature was a side of vodka sauce and it was delicious. The pizza was under-done. Meatballs weren’t hot. Raviolis were room temperature at best.
We let our server know we were there to celebrate a birthday and she said she’d bring out a tiramisu, but that didn’t materialize.
So so food and so so service. Great ambiance with al fresco dining.
Mimmo’s located in the center of San Diego’s Little Italy is a treasure. We made a reservation for 2 on Open Table and while we arrived a few minutes early they were able to seat us promptly at our 6:30 time slot. We sat along the rail next to the sidewalk and the people watching made for lively conversation. As it was 4th of July weekend 2021, it was great to see the area filled with diverse people and cultures!
Cesar our waiter was efficient, warm, and friendly. He made sure all my dietary restrictions due to Celiac disease were accommodated and no gluten was no issue for the restaurant. My husband RAVED about the meatball appetizer and how it was the best he’d had since leaving Europe years ago, and I was wowed by the caprese salad with super fresh mozzarella, plus generous portions- to go boxes are happily provided. We followed up with a Cesar Salad and an Aruglua , Pear and candied walnut salad, both first rate! Next, we enjoyed large portions (they offer small if desired) of gluten free penne with Alfredo and grilled chicken and my spouse had Campanelle sausage and again he was blown away by the delicious little bells of pasta that absorbed and carried the sausage and sauce. No wonder they can guarantee their scratch made pasta is the best you’ve ever had! My husband finished with a couple to go boxes and an amazing cappuccino, while I enjoyed a creme brûlée with a creamy custard and a lovely hard sugary shell across the top. Start to finish, Cesar guided us through the dining experience and made sure it was a fabulous dining experience.
This place has proven to be a winner every time we go. I brought my girlfriends here for a GNO and they loved the ambiance, the charcuterie was one of the best they've had and our waiter was so kind and attentive but not pushy. We were so fun from our apps at another restaurant we didn't get to try the pasta... next time though!
This has become one our favorite Italian restaurants in Little Italy! Food is great, portions are BIG! Very authentic. We sat outside and we’re very comfortable. Service e was really good as well. Had a great time!!
Still delicious. They changed their menu but were nice enough to accommodate my request. I visit every time I’m in San Diego. I highly recommend the chicken marsala.(off the menu now) Even the kids enjoyed their meal
My birthday dinner
Fantastic food as always but service was not good
We sat inside the ambiance was like being in the streets of Italy. Food was great.
Good and service was ok. We sat out side and at some point during the night a homeless man start scream at some middle eastern people telling the he would kill them and to go back to there country. The workers at the restaurant did nothing. They situation only stoped when 3 men from different tables stood up and strongly asked the mentally ill man to leave. He then kept pacing back and fourth for the remainder part of the night.
The ambiance was lovely, felt like being in a small village in Italy during the evening. The server was timely, we never felt rush nor ignored. Food was good The Spicy Shrimp Linguine was delicious and Pasta Pescatore was nicely dressed with mussels and shrimp. We would recommend this place for a nice evening with a lover or friends.
Carol our server was very nice. Great attitude
Had drinks at bar begore dinner. Bartendrr was vey attentative
Greatest Italian I’ve ever had it
The food was excellent! The Alfredo is so good! But the waitress didn’t seem happy to be there that day. The ambiance is really nice and the staff was all friendly. Over all food is amazing definitely a great place to eat.
Great celebratory dinner for three couples, we shared three appetizers and three different pastas.
Service was quick, elegant, and professional. Food was amazing and the price affordable.
My new favorite restaurant!
Great atmosphere. Great service and wonderful food. Parking was a bit of a problem. Better to use Uber but a great restaurant 😃
We came here to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. We made a reservation and were sat right on time. The bread was so fresh it just about melted in my mouth! We ordered gnocchi w/ marinara (cooked to perfection), lasagna (the best my husband has ever had), chicken parm and penne arriabata. Everything was delicious! We sat outside and the outdoor heater was low, we asked that they turn it up and found that the propane tank needed to be changed. It was done within minutes! Service and food was incredible here! I’d definitely come back!
