Acerca de Manta at The Cape a Thompson Hotel
By Renowned Mexican Chef, Enrique Olvera, Manta is the culinary centerpiece of The Cape, A Thompson Hotel. With an intriguing double meaning, the manta ray symbolizes the kitchen"s focus on seafood, while manta, the Spanish word for blanket, conveys the chef's emphasis on comfort. Acknowledge by the New York Times for his "way of confirming and subverting expectations of Mexican food at the same time," Olvera has drawn inspiration from the izakaya tradition to introduce a pan-Pacific concept of Mexican cuisine. The intimate, richly textured space features a dramatic exhibition kitchen and a curated beverage menu focused on mezcals, tequilas and sakes.

Manta at The Cape a Thompson Hotel calificaciones y reseñas
We had a wonderful dinner at Manta with amazing service from Samuel. I highly recommend getting the 4-course tasting menu as the plates are small and this will give you the most value ($78 for tasting menu vs. $20-30 per plate). And if you can get a table for sunset the view is incredible!!
Always delivers. View is great from the terrace dining. We did the tasting menu this time. Winners were the sashimi, corn salad, scallops, suckling pig and lobster tempura tacos. Only the ramen missed as it was too salty. For desserts the fried bananas and chocolate sponge cake really topped the meal off. Great service for food and wine. Reasonable prices for wine and food for the quality and experience. Will be back again next year in January when we visit.
The restaurant was beautiful and the staff very attentive. Unfortunately 2/4 diners could not find selections they could eat.
This restaurant is good for foodies. The staff directed us to another restaurant in the hotel -The Legend- where we had an excellent meal!
The views from outside or in the corner at Manta are breathtaking. The food is exquisite but having eaten all over the world and in Michelin starred restaurants, I think the prices are too high. The portions are VERY small. Cocktails are in the $15-20 range. This has been our go-to fancy meal of the trip but prices have gone up over the last year.
The setting is dramatic and beautiful. The food is creative, fresh, and artistic. What appeared to be a traditional steak dish with a dollop if avocado purée was brought to a new level of delight with the addition of hand made corn tortillas that were the best I had all week. The service was superb. We loved dining here and can’t wait to return.
I had heard of this new restaurant by Chef Enrique Olivera and I wanted to try it during our vacation in Cabo this year. The description says it is contemporary Mexican food, but in my opinion, it is not Mexican at all (I am Mexican). However, the food is excellent! I had the mushroom ramen soup and the rice with sweet corn. My husband had the tasting menu and loved his sashimi, hamachi, the octopus, and the lobster tacos, and he loved them all. We would come back again.
I can’t say enough positive things about Manta! We went here for Christmas dinner and were seated outdoors. We got to listen to the sound of the ocean waves while dining. The setting was perfect, but the food was even better. We each had the four course tasting menu. The food was incredible! We have had the pleasure of eating at some world class restaurants around the globe and Manta is at the top of the list! It is definitely worth the splurge to dine here.
View is amazing. Food was really good but there just wasn’t enough of it. (We went back to our hotel and ordered taquitos! Lol) We started with drinks on the rooftop (which was even more amazing with that view!) and should have had an appetizer up there. Great place though! Beautiful hotel.
I was expecting a sublime dining experience and I have to say, I was disappointed.
Food was good, but not exceptional as it should be for that price and location.
Every course of food was brought out too quickly and the plates were cleared as some of us were still eating, repeatedly. It created a bit of a frenzied feeling. Like we couldn't eat fast enough for the staff. It was intrusive.
Gratuity was included in the bill but the waiter made a point of telling us not one, not twice but three times that we should leave him more as the tip went to the hotel.
Overall it was a very nice experience. The view of the ocean from the terrace where we sat was magnificent and peaceful. The music selection was great. My friend and I tried the tasting menu. The food was good but not outstanding as I expected this level of restaurant to be. In general, several courses lacked flavour or, for example, the mushroom ramen had an overbearing vinegar taste, as the chocolate mousse had an overbearing raspberry flavour. The sashimi was amazing as were the black miso tacos.
The service was great other than we felt that they rushed through the dinner since we were the last clients. However that being said, they server was very sweet and brought me a complementary dessert for my birthday that was a few days before. All servers + the manager were very hospital + friendly.
Started at the rooftop with cocktails at sunset. Amazing spot, but just ok cocktails and pricey. Craft cocktails at $16 each. Full LA prices.
Then dinner was just weird. Manta was empty. The menu was unorganized and hard to figure out what was a starter versus a main course. Just guessed based on price. We had a $ 38 dish that was appetizer sized. Silly. Really like Asian/Latin fusion tapas, but waaaay too expensive. Made it not fun. Wanted to try more dishes, but not at those prices. Silly expensive wine list too. This isn't Palmilla, don't try to charge like it is. Maybe that is why it is empty.
However, after grumbling about prices. I will admit that while I left hungry, everything I put in my mouth had outstanding flavor. We went in March of this year and it was much better.
This was our one “splurge” meal of the trip and we were SO disappointed. The food was bland and the portion sizes tiny for the price. We expected to love this place (we are huge foodies). So sad, especially since our bill was $210USD! The setting itself and the hotel are AMAZING though!
My only issue is the hideous outdoor lighting.
If you are sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean ask to sit by the ledge not the wall. The bench seating up against the wall has industrial grade security lighting above them. It ruined the atmosphere as it was like sitting in a police interrogation room in a movie. We left much earlier than planned.
Manuel was our server, he along with the food were phenomenal. I would recommend for a nice meal out for anyone looking for a wonderful view, service, and food. 10 out of 10 would eat again!
Thank you Manuel!! He took our picture, made us feel extra special and gave us great recommendations for drinks. We loved the entire experience.
This is one of the most overpriced restaurants I have ever eaten at. The portions were really small and they did not have a wide variety. It is also not children friendly. Not only did they not have a kids menu, but they were not at all accommodating to find something that my nieces could eat. Plus they charged full prices for the options we did find. They atmosphere was really stuffy and it was obvious they shoved us in the corner because we had children with us.
This is thee place to go for a perfect sunset dinner. Besides the outrageously gorgeous view, the service was outstanding and the food was simply delicious. I can’t say enough about this restaurant except that it will be visited each time I’m in Cabo. And don’t forget to visit the Rooftop lounge for an after dinner drink!
