Acerca de Manta at The Cape a Thompson Hotel
By Renowned Mexican Chef, Enrique Olvera, Manta is the culinary centerpiece of The Cape, A Thompson Hotel. With an intriguing double meaning, the manta ray symbolizes the kitchen"s focus on seafood, while manta, the Spanish word for blanket, conveys the chef's emphasis on comfort. Acknowledge by the New York Times for his "way of confirming and subverting expectations of Mexican food at the same time," Olvera has drawn inspiration from the izakaya tradition to introduce a pan-Pacific concept of Mexican cuisine. The intimate, richly textured space features a dramatic exhibition kitchen and a curated beverage menu focused on mezcals, tequilas and sakes.

Manta at The Cape a Thompson Hotel calificaciones y reseñas
This was our one “splurge” meal of the trip and we were SO disappointed. The food was bland and the portion sizes tiny for the price. We expected to love this place (we are huge foodies). So sad, especially since our bill was $210USD! The setting itself and the hotel are AMAZING though!
My only issue is the hideous outdoor lighting.
If you are sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean ask to sit by the ledge not the wall. The bench seating up against the wall has industrial grade security lighting above them. It ruined the atmosphere as it was like sitting in a police interrogation room in a movie. We left much earlier than planned.
Manuel was our server, he along with the food were phenomenal. I would recommend for a nice meal out for anyone looking for a wonderful view, service, and food. 10 out of 10 would eat again!
Thank you Manuel!! He took our picture, made us feel extra special and gave us great recommendations for drinks. We loved the entire experience.
This is one of the most overpriced restaurants I have ever eaten at. The portions were really small and they did not have a wide variety. It is also not children friendly. Not only did they not have a kids menu, but they were not at all accommodating to find something that my nieces could eat. Plus they charged full prices for the options we did find. They atmosphere was really stuffy and it was obvious they shoved us in the corner because we had children with us.
This is thee place to go for a perfect sunset dinner. Besides the outrageously gorgeous view, the service was outstanding and the food was simply delicious. I can’t say enough about this restaurant except that it will be visited each time I’m in Cabo. And don’t forget to visit the Rooftop lounge for an after dinner drink!
Carlos, our server, was absolutely amazing. My wife has some severe food allergies and it was nice to see her not eat lettuce wraps while on vacation. Plus she had two desserts. One dessert is a once-a year rarity. The chefs, cooks, servers, hosts, server assistants go out of their way to make sure you have all that you need. The food knowledge of the FOH staff was outstanding as well. This is a solid group of professionals who create a wonderfully friendly and poetic experience...
Again, thank you to all — and Carlos...
Everything on the menu is creative, very tasty, and on it's way to getting a Michelin star...except it won't. Because the Fried Chicken is absolutely horrendous on this menu. Enjoyed the tasting menu on 2 separate occasions and thought the chicken was on the menu because it would be special. Why else would it be on there? It is a huge mistake. Dry, tasteless, horrible presentation, accompanied with sauce that could only be described as a sodium bomb. Lose that fried chicken Manta! Order anything else on the menu and you will be delighted.
Fantastic dinner and great service. We live very close to Cosme in nyc and believe Manta is much better. You really can't beat the location sitting outside overlooking the surf. Highly recommend for anyone interested in inventive yet still grounded cuisine.
From the craft cocktails using unusual ingredients in flavorful ways to the wildly inventive options across the tasting menu, Manta was a delightful find. Located in a drop-dead gorgeous setting with dramatic views of the surf directly below and El Arco in the distance, the comfortable room is a great place to experience the distinct tastes of Mexico and beyond. The chef is inspired by his country and the region specifically, but adds a new twist to every dish. We were surprised they allowed us to order the tasting menu of four dishes each, for a total of eight different plates, rather than forcing us to each order the same dishes - this in itself doubled our enjoyment as we were able to taste twice as many creative concoctions. Seeing me struggle with what wine to order, our waiter helpfully offered a $10 per dish wine pairing which expanded my tastes while remaining affordable.
Truly a one-of-a-kind gem!
Manta was a dream on the eyes, situated right on the Sea of Cortez with unobstructed views of the Arc and beautiful sunset. It's dark and romantic, but fun and lively enough for a younger crowd looking to mingle and enjoy their evening. The food and liquor selection were fantastic, but unfortunately the service was sub-par.
