Lucas Local Oyster Bar Woodfire Cookery
THE most enjoyable place to go in the Newtown area for locals! Everything that leaves that kitchen and raw bar is perfect. LOVE IT!
Tables are close, quite noisy
No non alcoholic beer offered
$16 dessert of chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream was a disappointment. The cookies were not warmed and were burnt
Entrees were good
Amazing, we are glad we ended up at Lucas Local, litteraly a gem in the area
I love this little gem of a restaurant. The mussels are out of this world! Creative menu, great service and lively ambience. There was live music, which was a bit loud, as we were sitting directly in front of the musician. Otherwise, excellent night once again.
Met our friends at Lucas, and we surprised by how busy it was. Understandably, our seating was briefly delayed and staff offered a round of drinks for the trouble. Drinks were very good and shortly thereafter we were seated. The menu choices were ample and we had appetizers while we finished our dinner choices. The dinner specials were interesting and complementary to the regular menu. The food was prepared and served quickly. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly, offering help with any questions we had. There was a live performer which was nice but sound was muffled and at times too loud to continue with conversations. It was a late dinner on a Friday, we stayed without interruptions they were winding down. Overall a very good evening food well prepared and an excellent server will return again for sure
The menu had a great selection to choose from. The servers were very attentive and friendly. Will definitely visit again.
Love this place. Food is always good. The service is good. The live music is the best. Great place.
The lobster risotto was outstanding!! Great cocktail menus, wonderful service, oyster selection did not disappoint. I eat here at least once a month. One of our favorite restaurants!
A fantastic find. We will be back for sure. Super friendly staff and great food
We introduced Luca Local to friends who happen to dine out frequently. Sadly it was not the best experience. There were very few occupied tables, yet the service was extremely slow. When our meals finally were served 3 risottos with shrimp were just at room temperature. Wait staff offered to give new dishes, but we had waited 1-1/2 hour to get dinner. Our friends did find the dish very tasty. We were offered 1 free dessert to correct the situation. I have always enjoyed my meals at Lucas Local and I am disappointed that they are slacking down on their quality.
The food was tasty but it was disappointing that I could not get the blue potato salad with the lobster roll because “ the menu changes next week”, and that they were out of the “bluefish paté” because ” the menu change this week”.
Octopus also could have use a bit more seasoning. Otherwise, it was decent but over priced when you consider the shortcomings.
The special tonight was outstanding: a filet mignon sliced and served with a red wine Demi glace , accompanied by indescribably good mashed sweet potatoes and Woodfire grilled asparagus. I started the meal with oysters on the half shell from PEI and New Brunswick. What could be better!
Friendly, accommodating staff. Delicious oysters. Grilled octopus was tender and smoky. Burger cooked to a perfect rare, not overcooked. Brioche bun surprisingly light and airy. Flavored butter with wonderful rustic bread. Delicate batter on fried calamari with no grease. My guests even raved about the dressing on the salad. A great bottle of sauvignon blanc for $20 (happy hour special). Every one I bring here loves the charming atmosphere, staff, and food.
A great seafood shack (feels more like an antique home) and a welcomed venue to Newtown. It's quirky with a current vibe for people looking for a much less typical dining experience.
The food is excellent. Atmosphere is lovely albeit a little on the loud side. Service was just okay.
There’s not much better than oysters and a lobster roll at Lucas Local!
The food was absolutely amazing! This is now one of our top favorites. Drinks were excellent and the desserts could feed a family of four! Fantastic atmosphere. We cannot wait to go back again.
Wife’s birthday! This is going to be one of our favorites from now on.....
Great place for date night. The musician and some couples getting up to dance definitely added to the ambiance. Hostess and wait staff are very helpful and pleasant making my 1st visit to your establishment very enjoyable.
Awesome food, the oysters outstanding
try the flourless chocolate cake unbelievable !!!
The mussels were exceptional. The Lobster on the risotto was of the highest order. The risotto was not quite as good, in that the dish was overly spiced (IMO) and seemed to have been rushed as it was not as "creamy" as tradition dictates. The Artic Char was perfectly prepared and well presented with sauce and potatoes and plated. The flourless Chocolate cake was a best ever; creamy and deeply flavorful. I definitely plan to return.
Always a great experience
Great food, great service in a contemporary ambiance.
What more can you ask for?!
Loved the service given by David and the atmosphere complemented the phenomenal food!
Great oyster starter-good drinks and food -ice cream dessert perfect topper
Friendly, attentive service in an energetic atmosphere. Great selection of oysters at the rawbar, the burger with bacon jamb was a big hit, and the octopus appetizer received high rankings as well. We almost made the mistake of not ordering desert as the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich was big enough for four of us. A little bit pricey, but a fun night out for sure.
We all enjoyed the oysters and our meals. Staff was super friendly and the restaurant is very pleasant. The only complaint is it’s a little noisy and difficult to carry on a conversation. It got better as the crowd thinned out a bit.
Love this place!!!!
food was delicious...saw the mussels my husband ordered in September Connecticut magazine...
I dipped bread in pesto liquid...yummy
We went to LOBWC on a Saturday night. I am in a wheelchair and noted that on the reservation. I received a call before we went to tell me the best way to enter. They were working on the little details even before we arrived.
The food was excellent. I had clams and the lobster roll. I would order both again. My wife had the cheese app and scallops and enjoyed both. The service was fine and the cost was fair.
I would absolutely recommend LOBWC.
Rather loud and had to almost shout but we had a great time anyway. Risotto with lobster was fantastic and so was the Rhode island clam chowder
Service was excellent as always and our food was phenomenal! We got oysters which were all so tasty and fresh. My husband got the summer risotto with lobster, which was delicious. I got the "cod is king" on a potato cake and it was soooo good. Highly recommend! We've always loved the food but this time it was truly exceptional.
What a wonderful and special meal! Very creative and original dishes. Food was fresh, delicious, and unique. Chef is very talented. Beautiful presentation. Thoroughly enjoyed all five dishes we ordered. Our server, David, could not have been more professional, helpful, or gracious. We will absolutely be back and heartily recommend. So excited to find this gem!
Food and service was great. Overall experience was great
Food was delicious, Oyster quite expensive but yummy. Drinks good and good sized. Seats not comfortable, 2 people in our party complained their backs hurt.
The only thing is the chairs
Not very comfortable and too low
Food was excellent and the ambiance was just great. Will definitely go again
Great food and service; pricey and noisy Seating suboptimal but we definitely will come back
Great tasting food! Putting most of all their dishes on the grill with hickory, apple or cherry wood smoking underneath, creates a flavor explosion. A little pricey, if they reduced their prices by 15% to 20%, it would make this place more than just a special occasion restaurant.
Final family dinner before my brother and I went back to college. Amazing experience and fresh food as usual!
I am a big fan of Lucas. When my sister wanted to take us out for our anniversary, I identified it as one of my favorite restaurants, but not last night. First, the good parts. We had good service to start and having chosen to sit outside, it wasn’t noisy even on Friday night. The appetizers—raw oysters, chowder, and mussels were all delicious. That’s the end of the good part. They have a limited menu, but last night there were out of scallops (yup, out of scallops in ct on a Friday night. It wasn’t a huge loss for me because while I appreciate inventiveness, pomegranate and mango powder just didn’t appeal anyhow as the scallop preparation. They were also out of the only thing that really appealed to me to try on the menu—crab blossom tempura. I love cod, but the pan seared cod had mozzarella cheese....might have been wonderful but didn’t appeal to me. The special fish preparations were both poached or steamed. I would have loved a grilled or pan-seared choice. We settled on splitting an oyster po boy and an orecchiette with shrimp. The pasta was completely unremarkable and I assumed my sister must have gotten all the oysters in the po boy. I had two in a mammoth piece of unremarkable bread. She said she thought she only had two also, and they couldn’t have been out of oysters! The dessert seemed to never come, so they did kindly comp it without our asking, which I sincerely appreciate, but it was also bizarre. It was supposed to be poached peaches and vanilla ice cream. There was possibly a tablespoon of ice cream and it was covered in sour cream (not creme fraiche). Neither was mentioned in the oral description and the waitress who took over for the first pleasant one wasn’t really with it or else the kitchen did her a great disservice. Again it was nice that they comped the dessert, but there is nothing inexpensive about Lucas. The oyster are 2.75 a piece and the wine runs 12 to 15 a glass. I was embarrassed to have suggested it.
